Vintage 1940's Beauty Routine for Women in 1948 - BW Version

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Quite a good 1940's beauty routine, covering skin care, cleansing, plucking eyebrows, the best way to shave legs. Nail care and finally an in depth look at hair care and the correct way to brush your hair. The fact that it's narrated by a man will no doubt raise some hackles, but that was the 1940's.
You can now watch an AI restored colorized version of this popular video on our channel.

@@paulrossi4863 criterias of freakiness are subjective I'd say. If I see a girl with blue hair my first thought is "she has an artsy personality", meanwhile if I see a well dressed girl who's a nazi I will think she's an abnormal freak eventhough those people where everywhere in the 40s. I guess it's also related to what you've been use to see growing up. For someone who grew up seeing only natural hair colors, hair dyes are weird, but if you grew up being used to see people with pink hair, your brain wouldn't even notice it much

I’m a hair stylist. Women are SLEEPING on vintage hair tricks. They’ve been lost to time. I want them back for all of our convenience. Throwing your hair into a pin curl set, or some rollers while it’s wet, is the BEST way to set curl into hair. It is most permanent. Especially with a good gel or moose, it’ll last longer than thermal curls. Also, the styles they create can be brushed into a number of the most fabulous hair styles the world has ever seen. And they’re SO EASY. Bring back convenience, bring back the wet set.

I'm young and I do this! I twist my damp hair a little and get the most beautiful beachy waves, leaves my hair smelling like it was just washed too, or makes my perfume last longer. I get complimented more on my "wild" look than with other things. (I know it depends on hair texture and your own possibilities, but I really recommend to style it a little damp because my hair is really thin, so it adapts quite easily).

It can be so relaxing to wash your hair the ‘old way’! In the countryside i would wash my hair in the sauna: the firewoods heated up some water in a metal basin, which would then be mixed in a bucket with cold water from the well. I actually only wash my hair once every 7-10 days, but i bathe about 2-3 times a week. And i often have my hair in 40s styles, and when i do i wear a cap as well, and although i nvr put my head directly under the water, my hair still looks 90% the same. When i wear my hair in older styles, such as 1800s or 1700s, or before, it normally doesnt change much either... BUT if i have a more modern style and try it it normally has changed ALOT. I believe its cause older styles are MEANT to last unless ur hair gets soaked. PLUS all the dry shampoo used in between washes helps make it stay put, i dont use TONS of hairspray, just a bit, even on 40s styles, but the little bit used helps. But sometimes i dont even use it. Its about the way u care for it and style it. But this IS a very possible thing. ALTHOUGH we clearly saw her edges get wet, so that would still be wet. Although an easy fix.

I don't know but this is so inspiring, it doesn't sound old or obsolete at all, this routine looks very accurate. Well into her 60’s people asked about her skin routine. She had gorgeous skin, buttery soft. In her 80’s at the end of her life , nurses would tell her how pretty she was! She had big brown eyes, full/medium lips,& dimples when she smiled.😊 Simpler times, but I appreciate what she taught me. “To be “lady-like” a woman must always take care of herself.” She would say. Nobody usually needs them. I’ve heard of breast cancer survivors getting breast implants after a mastectomy. Even if they don’t need them, if they want them and they are happy with them, that’s ok. Also, a LOT of trans people undergo surgeries to help combat gender dysphoria. That has been proven to really help mental health.

It is complete BS how the beauty industry makes u believe you need a 10-step beauty product routine with products costing as much as several hundred dollars. I'm 26 now and not that I'm old, but I have been staying out of the sun since I was 20 and washing my face with soap daily and only using a plain cheap moisturizer on dry spots when necessary. People always rave about my smooth and clear and bright skin. I am under the firm belief that in skin care, less is more. Cleanser, sunscreen and spot treating with moisturizer is really all u need.

Oily hair does require more washing, but I agree with you as I have dry hair. Try to leave the natural oils alone and let them build up a bit. The shampoo companies used to say lather, rinse, and repeat (i.e., use more product!). That would only be necessary if your hair is truly quite dirty. Daily washing, except if you really need it, will ensure that your scalp will stay too dry. It's an individual thing. I easily go four days or more.

It’s actually really easy to use and super safe as well. It’s also better on your skin than those plastic disposable razors, as the sharpness of the blade makes it glide on smoothly without scraping your skin (the disposable ones do. They also pull the hair). I never pay too much attention when I shave but never have a single nick.

I was born in 1948. The woman in this film looks very much like my mother. I suppose it is because of the styles then. My mother wore her hair like that. Sometimes she would put my hair in pin curls as well. I am happy that your mom lived a long life, I lost mine when she was 44 (I was 18), so I appreciate seeing these old films more than most.

Don’t know, I cringed a lil when he said wash hair “once every two weeks” lol. longest I can last is maybe 3-4 days before feeling very yucky. But I agree, I’ve heard that excessive washing hair is not good, n better to let some natural hair oil build up sometimes, instead of washing hair every day. Not sure what’s true or not, I’ll still be washing my hair regularly.
