It kinda has! Look up, "Rockabilly" or "pin up" girls. Kinda has a whole sub culture. Suicide Girls have been doing this for the last 30 to 40 years too ☺️

my mother, as a teen in the 40's would manually roll curls around her fingers and use bobby pins. my mother's hair went down to the middle of her back, and she would make curls and pile them on top of her head! she was amazing and i miss her terribly..

Girl, you nailed this hairstyle perfectly! My grandmother was a classic 1940s beauty and she showed me photos of her wearing this hairstyle. She recreated it on me one day for my Senior prom. I felt so pretty and so feminine! My boyfriend was like, "WOWZA!", "You look so beautiful!" I received A LOT of nice compliments on my hairstyle that night and I still have my prom pics! Such a cherished memory of my day with my beloved grandmother. :-D

Nope, not 1940s. -It looks iron curled because the cuticle is too flat. You need an overnight roller set. -Needs to be brushed out way more than that. Roller set can stand up to brushing which is why it's the better choice. -It's too long. Now, rag curls overnight on hair that long with waves up top would be a great 1920s style a la Mary Pickford. You'd be PERFECT.
