If it finishes cooking the rice before you're ready to serve it, I recommend tossing in a small amount of water (especially if you're cooking the least amount possible) to prevent the rice at the bottom from drying out. The vegetable steamer feels a bit like a hit or miss with cooking times, and sometimes the color from the vegetables leaks down onto the rice. So, I prefer to steam my vegetables separately. Overall, great item for the cost. I've been using mine for over 8 months and am VERY happy with it!
