Vinland Saga... Wow. Its been a long time coming. Late last year I wrote and released a colossal video on Attack on Titan. In that I discussed how my upbringing from Marvel, DC, Star Wars and Transformers had given me a warped view of what is possible for a show/movie to be able to accomplish. As the question of is AoT the best anime ever was quickly voided into is this my favourite thing ever.
Afterwards though I began my journey through other animes. Death Note, Evangelion. VINLAND SAGA.
Vinland Saga is more than just... "A show" or "An Anime". Its compltely life altering and asks so much from it's viewers. Vinland Saga actively changed me as a person. #thorfinn , #askeladd now sit amongst some of my favourite characters in fiction ever. For that-
I am Truely Grateful. For Vinland Saga.

    ATTENTION! At the end of the video my call to action asks if YOU want to be a part of part 2. Please follow those intructions clearly and tag me on twitter or tik tok with your video. @charlesjolsen or @daretoentertain will get my attention. If you can film it horizontal too. Thatll make it easier to edit for me please. If you have addtional stuff you wanna add or adlib go ahead! Part 2 I am swinging for the fences. If it works it might just make its way in. Sadly I will not be able to fit everyone if demand exceeds my expected expectations. To everyone who sees this and wants to help. THANK YOU!

    Fun fact, Isayama (author of AOT) and Yukimura (author of Vinland) are actually big fans of each other's work. In a recent interview, Yukimura even recommended that his fans read AOT. Both are masterpieces with incredibly strong messages. Excellent video, by the way. Looking forward to part 2!

    It's why I think its a shame when people watch AoT and don't see its messaging to be so very similar to vinland. Just two very different approaches. Ignoring the plots and settings of both shows. The clear distiction is just who is our POV character? One is caught in the trap and can't escape that cycle of violence. Being the centre of the war itself. And the other, finds a way to break free and tries to be a better, stronger man. One who doesnt fight. Thank you so much for commenting and watching my video.

    I too am grateful for Vinland Saga. It became my second favorite anime, then my favorite manga, then eventually it became my favorite story of all time, regardless of genre or medium. Nothing else comes close. I first began watching it because a friend recommended it to me, but it took me a while to get through it, I don't know why but it just didn't click with me at first. Then a few things happened in my life that left me in a really dark place for the better part of a year. I spent a couple months trying to deal with what happened on my own, which didn't work. Then I tried therapy, which also didn't work. So I went back to trying to deal with what happened on my own, which unsurprisingly didn't work the second time either. To be purposefully vague, I had questions about how to live happily despite certain truths and realities in my life seemingly telling me that couldn't happen, and nobody had the answers I was hoping to hear. Then for whatever reason, I decided to try and avoid the problem entirely by reading Vinland Saga since at the time we had no clue if a Season 2 would even be coming. I quickly got absorbed into the story once I realized that it was doing something very special. I always knew it was good, but reading the manga showed me that I had missed a lot of subtext and theming. As bizarre as it sounds, even though it didn't magically cure me, a story about Vikings ripping and tearing through each other, leaving death everywhere they went, gave me the answers I needed in my life at the time I needed them most more than anything else did. Vinland Saga quite literally changed my life in a way that nothing else possibly could have. Thanks for being one of the few KZreadrs out there to do a video essay on this phenomenal story. Hope you enjoy Season 2 and the rest of Vinland Saga, it really is something special.

    I am so sorry you had to go through the feelings and period in your life that you went through. If its anything Vinland Saga especially season 2 episode 9 was also able to show me a new way of thinking. It sounds dumb. Some 2d characters set 100s of years ago farming effecting my life? But even at the darkest of times I always think to thorfinn and when mad it just helps. This story is special. Thank you for taking the time to watch my video and then taking the time and effort to share such a raw response.

    You've GOT TO check out Berserk. It not only inspired both Attack on Titan and Vinland Saga but also is probably the greatest manga of all time. Though unfortunately, none of the adaptations except for maybe the 1997 adaptation come even close to the manga so I recommend solely reading that. If you do check out Berserk though, please reply to this comment because I feel like Berserk is still extremely under appreciated. PS Don't start from Black Swordsman. Start from Golden Age, because I feel like that gives a more accurate representation of what Berserk is.

    Let me just say thank you for watching and far out thank you for getting that far and noticing. Now Chainsaw man. Granted. I finished FMAB a day after finishing the edit for this. That is now third. Though, top 4 doesnt change anything you said here. I think I can easily explain this because to me it makes sense. Aot was written last year nearly exactly 12 months ago. I really tried to keep it as a "First anime" type video so if I go back and watch it. I can see how far my view has changed. There are TONS of Aot Takes that I disagree with now or have just a different stance on now. Chainsaw man is a unique case scenario that came at the exact right time. Because that whole end part of the video was deliberately written to be from an ignorant standpoint. If I had written it otherwise it would come across as more condesending and assertive. And that just wasnt the tone I was going for. Chainsaw man is for sure Horny. But Horniness isnt my issue. As time goes on I can now better artiuclate the reasoning around my distain for anime initally. And it really is that from outside view so much look similar and when so many animes have children depicted in such a sexual manner. Its so off putting. In chainsaw man. Each of the female cast members are in their mid to late 20s. With someone like himeno being like 28. And the entire attractivenss of Makima is her "Mummy" energy. The abuse of Denji is the story. The manipulative nature of all these women is the entire point which to me creates a seperating factor compared to something liky My hero or a High School DxD. Hope this helped mate!

  • @spyc4981

    @spyc4981

    10 ай бұрын

    @@DareToEntertain thanks! I think the important thing people need to remember about Denji is that he’s the victim. He’s not just horny perve character #103 he’s someone whose been deprived of love his whole life so his expressions of love is limited. He hates men since men treated like shit his whole life and idealizes women since they haven’t and the first woman he really meets, Makima, treats him with kindness (although manipulative). I’m not going to spoil anything but Denji’s arc in part 1 is learning to love. That scene where Denji thinks about if he’ll feel sad about it Aki or Power will die is an important keystone in that. I’m glad you see Chainsaw Man S1 as being that good since let me tell you, the parts adapted are the weakest parts of the manga (not bad but worst of the best) so it’ll only get better.

    Gonna be honest I don't like Vinland Saga because I don't like vikings. They commit the most heinous crimes imaginable and I don't respect them. You expect me to empathize with Thorfinn after years of killing and I'm sure plenty of other stuff that we aren't explicitly shown. I don't, It was frustrating to watch and Thorfinns hopeless struggle set against the historical battles at the time makes for obnoxious pacing. They could have told the same story in 12 episodes instead of a full season.

    I feel like you have misunderstood the core concept of the show. The manga author himself chose the setting uniquely because the viking lifestyle is one of the most heinous and brutal to have ever existed. The purpose is to showcase both the worst and best of humanity. It’s more so supposed to be viewed as a character driven show, dealing with heavy subjects such as depression, love, hate, ptsd and so on. You’re not supposed to forgive Thorfinn or empathize with him, it’s more of a character study of humans as a species!

    I value your view. However I do respectfully disagree. I'm quite aware and deep into some of the points you've brought up for the second video with Charles. Makoto Yukimura has shared his distain to violence but has mentioned many times that he finds vikings a great tool to tell his core concepts. Those being life, love and death. It's a character driven story revolved around Thorfinn thus far. We are going off the anime only so far. So we don't have the full picture. Thank you for sharing your opinion, I hope you find something akin to what Vinland Saga has done for Charles, myself and many ❤

    @@macready84 For season one, yes I agree. Thorfinn is a bit too static, but it does reflect his state throughout the season. Which mainly comes down to his decision to stay with Askeladd. I should have been more specific for my statement of character driven. Sorry about that. I'm more so speaking on second season, it's character agency is really what pushes the plot. These are some great discussion points!! Thank you :)
