Should Death Note Be Your First Anime in 2023?

Ойын-сауық

This is a quick Death Note video discussing whether Death Note is a good starter anime in the year 2023. A lot might say to go to Naruto, One piece or Bleach, at least one of the big three.
My anime journey started with Attack on Titan and I detailed that video in large detail here on the channel. My next stop was death note. And even though it's been talked about to death, I wanted to quickly say something on the show.
As time goes on I really do want to talk about shows like Vinland saga or Evangelion. But I just need to find out how best to cover said Anime's. Thank you for your patience and I hope you enjoy this small video.

Michael B Jordan recently said that One Piece, Dragon Ball Z, Naruto, Bleach, Hunter X Hunter are the best animes for starters. What would be your top 5 animes for someone new? I started with Attack on Titan and now Death Note. Ill be covering what I watched after that soon on the channel as soon as I can in extended length. (Compared to this shorter type video)

it really depends on the person really. for most normie af people it is probably "demon slayer" the safest bet, it is inoffensive without any sus stuff and still an animesque af shounen. otherwise most ghibli films. but i know waaaay too many people who love ghibli stuff but hate weebs and anime in general so i dunno if ghibli stuff even count as weeb material. then again, i know a guy whose first anime is "chainsaw man" and he absolutely loves it, he is a typical marvel fan type guy. i know another guy whose first anime is "monster" who watched all the 76 episodes loved it and still refuses to continue watching any other anime and makes excuses constantly. in the end it is really hard to pinpoint a single anime as a starter tbh, but if we are talking about genre and it is kinda easier. otherwise most ghibli films are a good starter. but i know waaaay too many people who love ghibli stuff but hate weebs and anime in general so i dunno if ghibli stuff even count as weeb material. ----- edit: i started with DeathNote , absolutely loved the first few episodes, but it started to feel like a drag after a dozen episode not to mention i was still too much of a normie so i really disliked the blonde girl(like i despised that blonde chick, i hated her guts, i was still too much of a normies to handle the cringe that was the blonde chick) , not to mention it was hard to follow a narcissistic prick like Light, there is something wrong with his character, i love anti-heroes , i love morally grey characters and i fking love bad guys, they dont even have to be grey, they can be pure evil and i will love them if done right, but Light was so self indulgent so far uo his own @$$ i just couldnt stand him. and after that episode where the investigator lady with black hair died i was just way more p^ssed. not to mention, "L" felt like a false advertisement, the anime made him seem like someone obsessed with "justice" but then we see him and he is just a "bored" guy who wants something interesting

@@btchiaintkidding7837 Far out the video was out less than 15 min and you whipped out this. Insane stuff. Thank you Mate. In the year 2023 I just have to think Demon Slayer has to be on any new starter list. I am only 12 eps in and my goodness the animation is so fucking clean. All my mates say it only gets better as it goes on so even though Tanjiro can get a bit annyoing. (THE BLONDE DUDE SUCKS) I am gonna stick with the show due to its solid heart and soul I feel with it. I really REALLY need to get onto the Ghibli films. On god. Monster I hear is also good to watch. Misa is underrated, I think. The writing comes across as crude at times, but I think the overall picture paints her in a respectful and purposeful way. I love when she gets drunk after meeting with Kiomi Takada and pissing her off, and complains about people telling her to be careful what she says. The second half of the show is hilarious. When the Task Force is doing surveillance on Light and Takada's meeting, and Aizowa comes in and asks how it's going... Matsuda says, "The mood's perfect!" There are other great lines from that part of the show. "What's the matter? You've never been in love, IDE??" When Misa comes out in lingerie to say goodnight to Light (who brushes her off). Ryuk says, "GUESS I'LL HANG OUT OVER HERE, THEN." xD shit is so damn funny.

5:53 - 6:15 I politely disagree with your disagreement. You state that for light to win, the viewer HAS to agree that Light's actions are just and the world deserved it. I beg it differ, in fact, i so much so that i agree with your follow up statement that this is completely wrong for a viewer to think so and isn't the answer. Though i agree that the show would have a more solid and ultimate end with Light's demise, Stopping at episode 25 is the second best option (compared to what we got). By saying this, the viewer does not have to see light's actions as just, but only have to believe that the author has written a world grimdark enough so that it is possible for Light to win in the end. In the end though, I wholeheartedly agree and enjoy your analysis of Death Note.

Comments like this is why I enjoy making video essays so much. I think what I really needed to do was elaborate on that point in my script. I was basing that statement a lot off of the mangaka's wording on why he changed the ending. Of course there are plently of stories where we have "bad guys win" and you arnet meant to side with x actions. Ala something easy like Infinity War. But that one point that is on my mind is how so many viewers come away with Light being the one in the right. With him winning itd be almost inseparable. That the notion of the story condoning his actions can not be disproven. I do think one of the best ways to showcase that a show has an interesting premise or has successed in being captivating is being able to discuss it at a levle like this. its why I do adore the show so much even with it's flaws. " the viewer does not have to see light's actions as just, but only have to believe that the author has written a world grimdark enough so that it is possible for Light to win in the end" this statement really intrigues me. I think it comes down to if you think the author has done enough to make you believe that grimdark comment you made. Instead of it really being a comment on our own ways of governing and living. Thanks for watching mate and commenting.

Great video! I agree that the anime shouldn't end at episode 25, though not for the reasons you say. For me, there would have been too many loose ends and unanswered questions. Light winning or losing in the end doesn't feel like the point of the show but rather what the implications of whatever outcome would be. In the end, it felt like the writer didn't know how to keep up the level of quality the story had before L's death in the show. It could be that in simplifying the manga to fit the runtime and medium something got lost but as I have not read the manga I can't really comment much more than that. I don't really have an overall top 5, but here's some recommendations based on genre and tone The shounen experience without the filler and exorbitant fan service: Hunter X Hunter (2011) Music, moe, and meltdowns: Angel Beats Sports, training and tournament arcs: Haikyuu Horror: Parasyte: The Maxim Romantic comedy: Kaguya-sama Love is War Isekai, emotional torment, and some of the best character development in a protagonist: Re: Zero Magical girls for those craving psychological trauma: Puella Magi Madoka Magica The most stylish depiction of the good, bad, and ugly of what makes someone human: Death Parade Heartfelt fantasy: The Ancient Magus Bride It's a bit lengthy but it's so hard to condense things down considering the breadth of genres and themes anime covers just like any other medium!

I just watched your video about AOT and was about to comment that you should watch Death Note next and then I saw that you've already made a video about it. I think you should focus on the well written characters of the shows you've watched and make videos about them. I really liked the Erwin Smith part in you AOT video and the comparisons to Optimus Prime. As for the next anime recommendation, I would say Moster is a great anime that you could make a video about, it has a strong mature story with very well written characters and one of the best villains of all media in my opinion. It's very old and not that well known as AOT and death Note but it can keep up in terms of quality. Also no fanservice and filler.

It really depends on what genre you like, so here I recomend some shows from diffrent genres. And Idk if they are starter animes. Depends on what you like. Also just shows I like. Dr. Stone. Jumanity turns into stone and after a few people awaken 3700 years later one dude wants to start rebuilding civilisation. (Part 2 of season 3 releasing in fall and not finished) Code Gease. It has characters as smart as Light and Kira having a war with big robots. It has been a while since I watched it, but it was amaizing especially the end. I think it had a little filler, but idk how much. probably just a few episodes, but if I remember correctly it was still good. (2 seasons and finished) Love is war is a comedy. I think most people find it funny. Also one of the only shows that I would watch with English dub. Both are amazing, but in most anime the jp dub is just 20 times better. (3 seasons and then a movie not finished I think) Re:Zero is an anime from the genre called isekai (basically the superhero genre of western media. Often the same and people still wathc it. In the genre the mc dies and gets transportet into another world) But this is objektivly viewed one of the best with like mushoku tensei. Basically the main character has the ability to resporn when he dies. That was the worst description I could ever give this show XD. (season 3 was anounced. it probably comes next year.) Now this is going a bit out of anime. It is Chinese animation (Donghua) and is one of my top 5 favourite shows out there. Name is Link click. Basically the main character can enter photos. He controlls the person who shot the photo for a certain time. The openings and ending of both seasons are amaizing. Please if you should finish season 1 try to think how it must have felt to wait 2 years for season 2. The show is so good at cliffhangers. (season 2 is airing right now. and it is amaizing. Also is the only thing on this list that is not based on a source material like a manga) Then I would not count this as starter anime or something like that and it does suffer from anime weirdo syndrom, but there is a reason why made in abyss is my favourite media out there period. It is really hard to explain what this anime is about. It is a dark fantasy with one of the best world building out there. The musik is on another level. Has to be my favourite soundtrack from any media. I will not say the start of the anime is bad, but only to the second half of season 1 the anime starts being this masterpiece. and with every ark it keeps getting better exponantionally. (2 seasons 1 movie (also 2 recap movies that you dont need to watch) watch season 1 than movie 3 and finnaly season 2. it is not finished) Finnaly there is a new new anime called oshi no ko. It has a 90 min first episode. Finish that first episode or do not watch the anime. The first 20 min a few people really do not like (idk if that is because they want to hate on the new popular stuff, because that is always happening.) The anime shows the dark side of the japanese entertament industry. (season 1 just ended airing) This is not by quality or by how you should wathc it. Those are listed in the order of how much I like them: Made in abyss > Link click > Re:Zero > Oshi no ko > Love is war > Dr. Stone > Code gease. Probably would be the other way around if you ask other people XD. Hope you will watch atleast one of those. Edit: I wanna ad jojos Bizare adventure as it just has the best fights and the best power system in the entirety of anime. The Power system changes is Part 3 where it starts getting really good. Do not get me wrong Part 2 is still one of my favourites. (6 Parts)

I am thinking atm finishing Demon Slayer, then trying to finish Code Geass and FMAB as quick as possible. Thats been my aim to try and complete as fast as i can. HxH has been on my radar. All very very good animes it seems.

@@DareToEntertain Out of curiosity: Why do you want to finish the animes you mentioned so quickly? Wouldn't it be better to just take your time? Just wanna make sure you don't get burnt out ya know 🙂. Especially cause some of the series you've mentioned are on the longer side. They're all great series though! I'm watching Monster right now, and it's absolutely amazing. Definitely some of the best anime has to offer.

That’s easy to answer. Because it does take me ages. And if I were to word it to my actual speed it would be “oh eventually” which comes across as really dismissive in my eyes. Demon slayer im really enjoying but it’s been like 3 or so weeks and I’m 11 eps in. So the way I see it is I have my next few shows. The ones above. I plan to finish those before the end of the year. Do content on some and just access where I am after that. I wanna diversify my content to include this stuff as well as my normal comic book or normal stuff. It’s hard but I do hear you that it sounds like I’m trying to rush past each show. But I promise you, that’s not the case. I’m only ever watching one new show + one on Going show at a time unless two so happen to be airing at the same time like chainsaw man and Vinland nearly were.

@@DareToEntertain I see, that makes sense! Thanks for explaining 🙂. Definitely approach a new anime at whatever pace you feel is right and works for you. You're certainly in for a good ride with the shows you plan on watching! Also wanted to mention that you did a great job on the video! This video was interesting to me because my brother just finished Death Note, and he mentioned a lot of the things you mentioned in this video. Death Note sure has its flaws and Light can feel like an edgy MC sometimes, but the cat and mouse game dynamic between Light and L is fascinating to watch and instantly hooks new viewers. Still one of the best gateway animes after all this time. Keep up the good work! I enjoy hearing opinions from content creators that are new to anime since it provides a different perspective from what I'm used to.

Naruto starts really good, but after Pain arc (including that) is a huge disappointment with a few glimpses of greatness (although I enjoyed the last chapter). Bleach has no substance. One Piece is a good story, but I've dropped it so many times, I wonder if it's really good or not. Fullmetal Alchemist is a good story, but is more light-hearted. Monster is great, Berserk is said to be great although I've never read it. Evangelion was my favourite for a really long time, but Rebuild ruined it for me. Some people liked it though, so IDK what to say.

5:53 omg yesss thank you. For me, the lasting legacy of this anime is that half the people who watch it come away agreeing with Light and thinking he should have won--and that's horrifying.

In my eyes a season on hbo should equal one arc. So 2 seasons of 10-12 to cover season 1. Season 2 w/h The OVA’s to make that season pace better for live action. Then the rest is self explanatory. Honestly would work perfectly.

I know even te 97 show cut out so much, luckly i had that mate to keep me posted as to why things like Guts doesnt like to be touched was so important to the story.

If you didn't like how the female characters are handled in the Death Note than youdefinitely shouldn't try and watch Naruto xD Female characters in there are such a joke that there are even stickers made "as useless as Sakura" mentioning the main female character of the anime. but show is great nonetheless. the main villain arc is *chefs kiss* perfection.
