Death Note is a prime example on how to start your fiction.Establish the character need and desire of your protagonist and in the same chapter/episode have the MC put his plan to motion while you introduce the antagonistic driving force who's going to oppose your main character's ideologies and beliefs.The perfect recipe to have everyone's attention from the beginning.

Cowboy Bepop, Samurai Champloo, and Death Note are one of those anime’s that you can watch and enjoy even if you overall don’t like anime

It has one of the best OSTs ever in anime too, even Matt who got like 1 minute of screen time got a banger theme as well.

If we're talking about the first five chapters I think Monster stands too as the best start.

Would definitely love to see a video on the second half of the story, while it's definitely not as good as the first part I still find it really good, I also think it was done much better in the manga than in anime (where it felt kinda rushed), and most of the people watched it without reading so it makes sense it could left bitter taste.

Despite what people say I still believe death note's second half is amazing and just as good as the first part, yes it would have been better if L himself defeated light but near and mello were great the suspense and adrenaline rush was still present, light seemed more evil and concentrated towards his goal and the ending with Ryuk writing light's name in the death note seems ironically perfect ending for him. The only problem I have is that they could have introduced Near and Mello' characters in a better way. After ep 25 they could have taken a short detour and explored more about L's past and his relationship with near and mello this way the audience would have been much more emotionally attached to them and there ideas and beliefs would be more clear

In the Japanese movie series, L ends up defeating Light

This series had a start that revolutionised the way the base of mangas and anime are layed down. The effect of the series has been rippling through many new stories. It has everything a story needs at the start. It quickly shows characters that interest you, it has conflict, and action that defies the usual.

A lot of Light’s character is actually hinted at in those beginning chapters [episode 1 -3 ]

I recently re-watched Death Note and simply couldn't keep watching past L's death. This is what happens when your opening arc is stellar: the rest pales in comparison.

I tried watching Death Note and couldn't get pass the first few episodes. The pacing is extremely slow compared to reading the manga. It's so wierd beacuse I am sortof on the opposite when it comes to a shonen. I gues the story matters.

@@Justpassingby204 spoiler warning only the surface but if you dig deeper into the lore, I assume you’re talking ab near and mello and how light eventually loses to them. I disagree because lights loss would not be impactful had L been the one to defeat him, what makes it so much better is the fact he was able to defeat L and believe he was achieving his goal with nothing in his way, and then when L’s successors get in the way it’s right back to where we were before but a little twist in the sense that light is more involved in the investigation as well as aizawa starting to suspect light. mello’s way about things is also a great change of pace. it’s just as good. If it had just ended with L defeating light or light defeating L, the eventual conclusion would have been so much less impactful. In my opinion

Death Note has one of the best starts but my vote goes to Gantz. In such a short time it explains the World and developes its 2 Main Characters perfectly

Hmm maybe I need to reread the beginning of Gantz cuz for me it took forever to get into it. But after the Buddhist temple arc I was able to binge read all the way through the end quite quickly. The first few arcs were rough to get through imo, although I will admit the premise and characters are established pretty well.

Personally i loved the last half but its just the beginning was so unbelievebly high teir that the last half was only good by comparison. Still a 9/10 for me and my second fav anime/manga

Imo Promised Neverland has one of the best starts to a manga as well

The manga is pretty good and gets worse in the last arc. Sadly anime is aweful for S2 so I am not sure there are people who would be interested in the manga.

While I wasn’t a fan of the last third of death note (although I did like the ending) those first 2/3 are peak. One of my first anime I watched and it always has a special place in my heart

@@obluda5609 Death note was actually the first manga I bought when I started collecting late last year, loved the art, although my opinion still remained mostly the same, although it did get me to like the post-L death stuff a bit more

Got the entire manga and the first volume gives off such a narrative peak that some manga can’t compete with.A start to a manga is very important and death note did a masterful job.

I would say best first episode of an anime, to twist the statement slightly, is definitely AOT from what I’ve watched. But Death Note overall set up for the L vs Light battle is incredible.

i would say not because in aot you still don't know what is actually happening in the anime they introduce certain characters and put you in a scene of titan attack when you don't know much about titans,walls and outside

I completely agree when you say that ryuk is a representation of the audience. Most of us are like ryuk, bored and just intrigued just needing some entertainment in our lives. I really like how the beginning also ties into the ending because (spoilers for anime and manga) in the anime ryuk says “it was good while it lasted” we are just like ryuk, we know this is the end as Light is running away bleeding. However I enjoy the ending of the manga much more, because it shows that the calm and collective ness of light has finally been shattered. He claims he is a god and above all else but yet he is crawling on the ground begging and screaming, that is how he dies. Just like any other criminal. No matter how much he gained from the start of the series till the end. “Your just a crazy cereal killer, nothing more, nothing less” - Near (Nate River)

Death note was the first anime I watched and from the first 2 eps I just knew it was special. Amazing start, amazing plot, one of the most unique protagonist, perfect osts, suspense and adrenaline rush like no other... just the perfect start to my anime/manga journey.

Well I have Naruto as the Best Start, Land of Waves and Chunin Exams really Hits With the Nostalgia

Attack on Titan and Death Note both had the strongest starts for me. Likewise, those are the two anime I always recommend first for people who've never seen anime before.

Death Note has the strongest start of any show I’ve ever seen, not just an anime.

I only have two problems with Death Note: 1) How did Near magically knew that Light was Kira? It just randomly came into his mind. 2) The Shinigami world should have been exposed more in the story. It is a cool setting and it needed to be included more. Before watching it, I thought it was a bit more dark and horror-filled since the name “Death Note” itself is very “metal”. It was not even close and there was an abundance of “light-hearted” moments especially when Misa is included. Nevertheless still a 10/10 anime.

I like this channel a lot Not just because it makes quality videos on different topics.. But because it makes videos on manga/anime that most people dont know about I was so thrilled to find a review of doroehdoro on KZread! It's so good but that was one of the evry few (good) reviews I could find

now this is interesting. I remember when i have tried death note for the first time i was really young and used to only crazy battle shounen stuff. Not the best conditions for death note :d. I dropped it after first episode..two times. I really wasnt able to apprice the qualities of the series at the time..Few years later i tried it for the third time and i was mesmerised. I have to agree the beginning is truly wonderful. My own experience leads me to think that these are maybe the reasons why someone cant get into death note. I know im not the only one who have struggled. The difference between typical shounen and dn can be quite a something for someone who is not used for this and it may take time. anyways the video was great and i would love to see another one about second part of the series.

Code Geass and Death Note were my first 3 animes Death Note has one of the best starts in manga and animes Code Geass has one of the best ends in manga and animes

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned it, but the start of "to your eternity" is amazing, having what is one of the best first episodes of all anime

Deathnote is my favourite anime of all time. Light and L are in my top 10 characters too. I definitely think the second half of deathnote is underrated. I know it’s not the same masterpiece as the first half but Mello and near are really well written if you look closely enough at there characters and goals. I think people are understandably biased when it comes to the second part of deathnote because they hold the first part in such high regard. The interactions between mello the embodiment of the agent of chaos and near the cold heartless and intelligent machine representing the diametrically opposed sides of L coming together to ultimately defeat light was thematically consistent with the story as a whole. Near and mello are underrated characters imo tho obviously I am a huge L simp.

Yep Death Note's 1st episode is fucking epic, I havent seen many animes/mangas with that much of a banger 1st episode

This was a fantastic video, the first 5 chapters and the first 3 episodes of Death Note are some of the best out there. I still remember the first time I experienced Death Note, I was glued to my screen and i just couldn't look away. People love to shit on the second half of death note, they say it like the quality dropped from a 10 to a 1. I loved the second half of Death Note, i also thought there was a quality drop from the 1st to the 2nd half of Death Note but the drop was from a 10 to 9/9.5, Near and Mello were fantastic characters plus the ending is one of my all time favourite. Also Light is an S tier character/protagonist Death Note is one of my favourite pieces of media of all time.

I loved this! Man, ur great. I really enjoy your videos, please keep working like this. You are the best! In my opinion, the best start I´ve seen it´s Evangelion and Madoka Magica in anime, while in manga I´d say Battle Angel Alita (btw i suggest you to read it, you´ll love it)

Death note to me has the best first 10 episodes of anime I've ever watched. Everything after the L arc wasn't bad but the bar was just set so high that nothing ever reached those heights again. The blessing and possible curse of having an insane arc.

But another psychological manga that has some similarities with death note (even though they arent really that similar) is Monster which i found to be really interesting and is one of my favorite manga. It just didnt have action like death note, the cat and mouse plans between Light and L were something different and really intense

Deathnotes start is just brilliant. Have to reread it at some point

I liked your point of view though it feels like the title should have been more like: How Death Note keeps the reader guessing you made so many great points on the fact that there are a lot of planned moments with the subversive elements that through the audience into a state of suspense and chaos due to new information being introduced more and more lights father shinigami eyes multiple death notes and the best part is that its a logical practicality of the series that makes it possible the whole of death note operates within the set logic and ever does it break that logic rather it finds creative subversive elements to play the reader to its tune almost like a matador bull fighter that keeps the bull fixated on one specific point similar to how the author of Death Note keeps the readers focused on one thing and then introducing game changing information which throughts audiences for a loop it often feels like the author enjoys logical tight writing in his series from the supernatural elements to how his characters will logically react and what moves they would logically take "he imagines what would happen if I had a notebook" "well I'd want to create a safe compartment that nobody but me could have the specfic knowledge to access" its the practical realism in the stories that makes the show very tense and dramatic despite the fact that its about notebooks that kill people and Ryuk looks like a member of Kiss and Clown Core

the first anime i ever watched properly as an adult (as a kid I watched detective Conan and other popular kid series but I don't really count that because I wasn't familiar with anime) and I will never stop rewatching it

They did such a good job with L there's no way Near or Mellow could compare.

Another great starts that come to mind are Fire Punch, Gantz, To Your Eternity and One Outs

When I started watching I expected it to be more like breaking bad, where the main character starts out as a good guy who would never kill and gradually turns evil over the course of the show, using the death note more and more. I was def surprised when light just instantly goes batshit and gets a god complex

cant really talk about manga, but the best first anime episodes ive ever watched were, attack on titan the promised neverland rascal does not dream of bunny girl senpai (dont laugh. watch it!) but death note has without a doubt the best second episode ever. so if we count like the first 3ish episodes as "start", i wouldnt argue.
