"It was not worth it" was specifically about the secret, I think.

11:06 - this glitch happens whenever you L + R scroll into an autoscroll section. it's one of the reasons people usually recommend to not put auto-scroll sections in the middle of levels unless you're going to disable L + R scrolling. it's kind of funny how Vinny coincidentally managed to trigger this extremely specific glitch, especially after how the message box literally talks about camera scrolling causing game breaking bugs.

mario is red. Red is a primary color. Luigi is green. Green is a secondary color, and the complementary color to red. Wario is yellow. That is also a primary color. Waluigi is purple, the complementary color to yellow. You see where I'm going here? Sponge is orange. That's a secondary color. This implies he is the number 2 of a pair of bros. Of course, he does have a brother, pretzel. However, Pretzel isn't even a primary or secondary color. He's brown. You get that by mixing a primary color with its complementary color. So pretzel is half of a number 1 brother, he would've been a blue brother as that is the complementary color to orange. So this could be interpreted in multiple ways, you could assume that since sponge soaks up all the depression, his brother absorbs some of it by being in close contact, thus mixing with orange and becoming brown. Or you could just assume the pretzel and sponge duo are not worthy of having a number one brother because they fail to be heroes, as seen in super sponge bros.

While Mario and Luigi save the princess, Sponge makes sure everyone is happy.

My headcanon is that Sponge is a Mario Brother, though an illegitimate bastard child fathered by Mario and Luigi's father, Anthony Jumpman, during a period spent in Kraskatalia during the war. Perhaps he could instead be a failed(?) clone of Jumpman, if the factory/lab stage is anything to go by... And Pretzel is an even more botched clone.

Sponge is an extremely distant relative of Mario. Probably ten generations past and the family moved to krutzkratalia

I like to imagine that Sponge gets to Bowser and due to his major self confidence issues and depression he feels he's not good enough to defeat Bowser and save the princess so he has an existential crisis about his past failures and how much he thinks everyone hates him, only for Mario to run past him during his struggles and saves the princess. This adds to his pile of self hatred.

Sponge is Mario's doppleganger from Russia who also happens to be able to jump insanely high and is a tank mechanic in my mind.

The stage clear tune is so similar yet also feels that a TOTALLY different mood

I think that secret room is supposed to be a clone chamber of Princess Savnya, and Sponge is nothing more than a clone to soak up all the depression. The lore deepens!

an emulator can skip 90 frames via rewind, but, yes, it could be that

Poor Sponge can't even get his own final boss OR more than one ending after 4 years... the end of this totally real game is just as unfulfilling as everything else in his life. Perfectly fitting for him, 10/10!
