Vincent Lopez & Hotel Pennsylvania Orch. - Who? (J.Kern), 1926

Музыка

Vincent Lopez [& His Hotel Pennsylvania Orch.] - Who? Foxtrot (J.Kern) from „Sunny” - Lindström. American Record (German product; Recorded in USA)
NOTE: Here’s one more excellent rendition of the famous American hit from the 1920s, waxed by Vincent Lopez’s dance band in New York, in the best recording period of this historic orchestra. It’s one of the American/ German releases from the time when the European concern led by the Swedish/ German businessmann Carl Lindstroöm made attempts to conquer the American record market throught the Okeh company (Car Lindstrom’s concern was the holding company for American Okeh until 1926, when Okeh was sold by Lindstrom to the Columbia Grapohophone Co. The records labeled with the name: Linström. American Record are the German releases of the American matrixes and vice -versa: sometimes the German matrixes were pressed and distributed in USA. Usually, the recordings were the most popular hits for dancing performed by best dance orchestras in USA or Germany and the technical quality of the recordings is excellent.

As always, great pictures from the 20s and 30s to go along with this great Jerome Kern song. I'm happy you included a short moving picture of a teen-aged Loretta Young who was starring in feature films from 1929 onward. She was gorgeous in the early 1930s and quite the actress when only 17, 18 years old.

Thanks for the Vincent Lopez Hotel Pennsylvania Orchestra's rendition of Who? from the musical, Sunny, by Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein II, which opened in 1925 on Broadway. Also, some acknowledgement of your footage of Loretta Young when she was an ingenue starlet in feature films of the early 30's, paving the way to a star-studded career in Hollywood.

Notice the tuba and banjo in the accompaniment. That was a popular combination at the time, and for good reason.

Although not as hot as the insurpassed version by Dajos Béla (I immediately went back to the latter for a comparison), this is an outstanding rendition as well, catchy and very well orchestrated. Visually, this video was a feast, thank you so much for sharing!

Is it still an acoustic recording? Jack Hylton did a good version although his singing takes 2nd place to the orchestra.
