    It blew me away to find out that Russo is older than Cornette. Not only does Cornette give off grumpy old man vibes. But Russo really gives off “I’m perpetually 20 years old” vibes. Despite being older, Russo really comes off like the kid who got thrown into the mix with adults. Because he honestly had no business being in the position he was in. At the end of the day I recognize Russo’s few, but important contributions while also being able to say that almost everything he does is fucking stupid 😂. I don’t hate him a bit. But knowing how seriously Corny takes his wrestling (it’s not a job or hobby, but a career and lifetime passion) I totally understand why he doesn’t mesh with Russo.

    I would have to see the context. Because if i recall, one of the Von Erichs didnt want to wrestle, he was kinda pushed into it, and couldnt replicate his brothers. So in that aspect, i think Jim meant "Theres more that you can do, only if youre passionate about wrestling does it become all or nothing." But again, id have to see the episode and listen to the before and after from the statement.

    It can't possibly be just for his podcast. Jeff Jarrett & Dutch both confirm in TNA, Jim and Vince had to be kept apart per Jim's demand and agreement with Jeff. And multiple sources confirm the crazy stuff Jim would say about Vince privately over the years. From the Attitude Era to now. If Jim is doing an act for his podcast, it's been a long con bc he's been doing it for decades & there's not a single soul who has ever even heard Jim privately hint, that's it all just an elaborate ruse lol. There's a lot of cool people and in the wrestling business that are from the South but Cornette is obviously not one of them. When you get a bad person it always turns into "that Yankee" "that New Yorker" or race or politics or religion and they find any reason to hate you. I wish the marks that hate Russo over wrestling but love Cornette that never lived down here could experience some of these people like Cornette.

That being said, Vince Russo is a much more important figure, in my opinion, in the history of wrestling and the story of WWE/F and that is something that really really bothers Cornette. I gotta agree to disagree on that one. I don't hate, or even dislike, Russo. Matter of fact I get a kick out of him. But in the grand scheme of things he was a major part of the eventual failures of TNA and WCW. Sure he was the head writer for the biggest promotion in the world during its most successful era but that run lasted what.. 2 or 3 years? And he walked into a promotion that was already on the rise with budding stars, many of whom would prove to be the biggest draws in the history of the business. Austin, Rock, HHH, Foley, Taker, Kane, etc. Not to mention a deep roster beyond that with a fantastic mid card and tag team division. Cornette on the other hand has been a mainstay in the business for decades. Working for every major promotion in a variety of different roles. Basically every role imaginable. Even running entire companies such as SMW and OVW. And imo Cornettes biggest contribution to the business was basically being the man responsible for every successful megastar of the Ruthless Aggression Era. You could argue that the talent that he produced for WWE in just ONE YEAR at OVW trumps Russos entire resume in the business. Cornette was the man who acquired and fostered the likes of Cena, Batista, Orton, Lesnar, etc in the early 2000s. All of which were fed to WWE in 02. Even WWEs RE era midcard were virtually all OVW guys. The Shelton Benjamins, Eugenes, Boogeymans, Rob Conways, Johnny Nitros, etc, etc of the era. Not to mention he has the most successful podcast and is probably the top wrestling archivist in the history of the business.

    @@tonyp1376 all the things you listed about Russo prove my point further though. I said when you tell the history of wrestling, it will be much harder to avoid talking about Russo compared to Cornette. Cornette may be more successful, more respected and had a bigger impact on local area wrestling, particularly in the south and OVW- but when you tell the history of pro wrestling as a whole, that includes WCW and TNA. So even though Russo failed there - you have to explain why those things failed when telling their stories- so you have to mention him. Which makes him a much more important figure in history. Roll that into the fact that his writing saved pro wrestling in the late 90s and he is just a much bigger figure in the history of wrestling, mainly because he wasn’t loyal to just one promotion like Jim has been to WWE. Again I have a ton of respect for Jim, I think his impact is pretty clear to any true wrestling fan. But if i gave you a 3 hr college lecture to tell the history of pro wrestling - I just think you would find yourself talking about Russo more than Cornette. More for his failures, sure, but more in general

  • @tonyp1376

    @tonyp1376

    @@Jryan81 Yeah ill give you that. I was looking at it from a different perspective. I give Russo a lot of credit for the Attitude Era which, being a kid at the time, is near and dear to my heart. I think WWF needed an outside the box thinker at the time to revolutionize the product in order to keep with the times and the so called 'Crash TV' that dominated the late 90s. Russo fit the bill. It would be a difficult task to tell the story of modern pro wrestling without mentioning Russos integral part in saving one major company and destroying two others. I believe Cornys impact on the business, in many regards, but namely in acquiring and developing talent has far exceeded Russos impact. Nevertheless you are right, the history of modern pro wrestling could probably be told sans Cornette, whereas Russo must be mentioned multiple times in order for an accurate accounting. While I have no ill will towards Russo, and quite frankly I believe the business would have veered in that direction with or without him, as it already had been with the influence of ECW already having rubbed off on WCW to a degree, I still find it unfortunate that a guy like Corny who loves the business more than probably anything on this Earth has been usurped in its historical record by a guy who views the business with utter indifference despite it serving as his meal ticket. Nonetheless Corny can rest easy knowing that Russos eternal resting place will be covered in piss 😄
