I guess I was 18 or 19. I'm turning. 41 this year and in Toronto. I was in university during the height of Vinsanity, including gm 7 against the Philly. Vince got hit hard by NY in his 1st year in the playoffs after beating them hard in game 1 or 2. He literally went into Scottie Pippen Migraine mode and disappeared for the rest of the playoffs. Same thing happened to Tony Parker in 2004 when Shaq clobbered him in game 3 after Parker torched the Lakers in the first 2 games. It just shows you how rough the league was back then that ONE Hit in the paint could take you out mentally the whole series. Old man Charles Oakley at the time, was on Carter for not being tough enough, and lacking that MJ style work ethic. I remember it like yesterday. So think of what Jordan went through and still kept attacking the paint. Barkley, Malone. Duncan in the old era would have gotten abused in the paint. It's only after 04 after the Pistons old school (less physical though) defense made Kobe look like a struggling high school player. League panicked and changed the rules for the 05 season, but really enforced it in 06 (look at how different 06 Finals is played and called vs 04 Finals). So that's why you see Vince emotional there at how you had to EARN it. Think of what Iverson had to go through. Add to that, especially 80s, and early 90s, players were still taking commercial. Shoe technology was way crappier, same with training, nutrition (players before in the 70s and 80s were eating hot dogs at the airport).
