We must remember that Oogway and kai together were extremely well known and successful generals, meaning they fought and won wars, conquered lands, and killed many people who likely weren't bad. After being saved by the pandas, Oogway likely changed his perspective on life, and decided to change for the better, and kai did not, so they clashed. Kai probably felt betrayed that his brother in arms who was just as bad as he was, suddenly switched to being a benevolent person and was fighting him. Afterwards from today's perspective, several hundred years later, noone remembers Kai at all, and noone sees Oogway in a bad light, why? This would have been a legendary clash between the 2 strongest generals in all of China, and yet noone remembers one of the participants. In the movie Kai says something along the lines of Oogway destroyed his memory, so he's going to do the same, making me think that after oogway banished kai, he did his best to rewrite history, removing kai from any text he could other than the one he wrote in that special scroll from the movie. So obviously after 500 years noone would remember him since the only people who would remember kai would have to be passing down stories by word of mouth, for 500 years, without having an actual reason to. This not only explains Kai's emotions, but also why noone knows who he is, and why he's so confused by it at first, since he knows he was an extremely famous figure back when he died. Now of course most of this is headcannon, but I think it makes a ton of sense. I still love master Oogway, but its cool to image the grandfatherly turtle as a ruthless general, killing all in his path. Either way sorry for writing an essay, but I figured I would answer your question on "but what", have a good day/night.

He feared that his daughter was inside with all the nightmares. Consumed by fear he opened the gate and the monsters infiltrated his body. Thus turning him into the marquis of nightmares.

Every villain is the hero of their own story.

Shen has been a Psychopath ever since he discovered Fireworks, the only broken part of him was his "betrayal" by his parents, which was entirely his fault.

Pitch is actually a broken character. His backstory about why and how he became pitch black is really heartbreaking. Also like death he is just doing his "job" to bring fear over humankind. And fear is actually a good thing, because fear protects you from doing dangerous things that could kill you.

Death is not just doing his job. The job of the Grim Reaper, or Death, is to guide the dead to the afterlife, not kill them. Puss had not died yet and so he had no reason to go after him other than just hating him (for a pretty good reason, I'll admit)

I mean to be fair Puss died 8 times, and in all 8 of those lives he lived recklessly, and without caring for, or valuing any of those lives. If not for Death, it is likely Puss would've lived his last life chasing glory, and dying lonely, since he might not have met Kitty Softpaws again or Perrito. He only cared about his life after meeting them again and accepting that he doesn't need to be a lone swordsman hero, and that there's others he can depend on. He didn't value his lives because he was afraid of making connections, and being vulnerable, to anyone but himself.

Death wanted Puss to change for the better. If he seriously wanted to kill Puss for shits and giggles he could’ve done so a thousand times. I think he wanted to push him to the edge to make him value his life. The only time Death intervened was when Puss decided to cheat Death by running away to more wishes. Death left Puss alone when he was by himself or with the dog and cat. He only tried attacking him again when he got closer to getting the wish

@@chill3282 I think it was just more of a sadism. He meant to absolutely humiliate and break Puss. killing him quickly wasn't his concern. He could do that any time if he wanted to but he was more sadistic in his attempt to continuously give Puss traumas upon traumas, making Puss absolutely fear him. The audacity of Puss laughing at him was what set him off on his path to destroy Puss. Death had a grudge against him for not taking him seriously and continuously saying "I laugh at the face of death!" and wanted to make him suffer for as long as he could during his last life, before finally getting his sweet, satisfying kill. That's why he left Puss alone when he was living as lap kitty for granny. He was probably still watching him, reveling in how much he has fallen. He shows up to remind Puss of his place as soon as Puss gets happy and "heroic" during the escape from Pie boy's mansion. Letting him know that he's always watching and can get him any time. He then confronts Puss in the Crystal cave, knowing that he is close to getting his wish, yet he doesn't care for it, because he is nearing the end of his hunt. After revealing his identity and continuing his sadistic hunt, He finally intends to actually kill him as he is satisfied from Puss' fear of him. Only to realize his sadistic actions themselves pushed Puss to mature up and finally face Death seriously. At that moment, he loses his passion, because now he RESPECTS Puss. He no longer wants to belittle and humiliate him, for he now realized that he has grown up. He lost the very reason behind his chase. He even complains in frustration that he shouldn't have played with his food in Spanish. He accidentally helped Puss, but his intent was fully, and utterly, sadistic and sinister.

I know some people say that trying to kill Puss is a villainous thing Death did as he doesn't do his job, but they fail to realise that Death is pissed off at Puss for not caring his lives and living recklessly, cuz Puss was an ignorant who heavily relied on his lives rather than cherishing them just for fame and glory while ignoring the consequences of not valuing his lives. let me give you an example: a theif took a candy from a toddler and he began to cry but the theif didn't care, the police officer was so pissed off that he threw a thief in jail for the sake of justice wether it's illegal or not, so in other words, Puss is the theif, kid is his 9 lives, stealing a candy is wasting lives, and police officer is Death, and he only attacks those who don't care about their lives thinking they're immortal, Death gave Puss so many chances before he's down to his last life, concluding that Puss doesn't appreaciate his lives, so he had to teach him a lesson... The hard way, and he became frustrated bec not only did he ruin his hunt, but he was also shocked that Puss learned a lesson, something other individuals that Death hunted down didn't do, and he was shocked, but impressed that Puss is the first mortal to learn to value his last life.

I wouldn’t just say that Death is doing his job. He takes a bit of sadism out of chasing Puss. However we know that he hates the fact that cats get nine lives while everyone only gets one, especially someone like Puss who didn’t value his lives and thought he could always cheat death. So if anything, Death’s motives come from justified anger.

the reason kai is both: watch Kung Fu Panda 3 kai and oogway were friends like brothers but then they were ambushed, oogway was injured and he can barely wake up then kai went to the panda village then they taught oogway chi but kai wanted the power all to himself and that's why

It depends how similar deaths mind/soul is to a humans, if he feels the same emotions and stuff he might as we’ll eventually go insane, witch might explain his tendencies in the movie. That or he’s not at all like a human and has a mind that naturally doesn’t care about anything that isn’t his job so he can do his job successfully and efficiently. In my opinion it’s the first since he has a personality and a free will to want to break the rules much to pus’s misfortune.

Death has done some pretty evil stuff but in yeah he is just trying to do his job, by literally traumatizing several children in the theater

It's literally pointed out in the movie that Death knows what he is doing is wrong. He is going out of his way to kill Puss. That doesn't sound like doing his job

When was it pointed out that he's doing wrong? He taking puss's last life because he didn't value his 8 lives. So, why should he be deserved to live another life when he doesn't care for them? So once death see that he starts to value his last life he let's him live since he see that he's change.

@@shayneKerry In the scene where puss is trapped with his other lives. Death is telling puss why is trying to kill him. One of the lives say 'Hey that's cheating!" Death immediately shuts him up because he knows what he doing is cheating. Puss still has one more life isn't actively dying. Death is personally going out of his way to kill Puss when it's not his time. Not doing his job. Even if he doesn't think Puss doesn't deserve another one. It's still not doing his job

Death isn't just doing his job. He chose to kill Puss because he wants to and even admits that it's not fair but he doesn't care. He's not pure evil per say but he is a sadist who likes killing people who he doesn't like and will break his own rules.
