I wouldn't say that make him the most evil, but more so one of the most successful. He did drive the night furies to effective extinction at the very least, and he was able to drive humans and dragons apart. Just as a random example of more evil villains, I'd say that Lord Shen was actually more evil. While he had the same goal of genocide as Grimmel, he was genociding a race he knew for a fact were sentient, and while he far from succeeded, the fact attempted to in the first place is what matters. As real life comparisons, Grimmel forced lions to extinction, whilst Shen committed racial genocide (granted we don't know how many pandas he ended up killing, but still).

What makes Grimmel more Evil than Drago is the fact that his backstory revolved around delusions rather than tragedy and revenge. Grimmel went through the same speakings that Hiccup went though, people saying “Dragon must die, dragons are abominations, u must slay a dragon in order to become a viking”. It’s what led Grimmel into slaying the Night Fury rather than taming it. And he does not truly care for saving humanity, he just wants humanity to esteem him as a hero and ensure humans are the superior species, despite his lack of empathy. He is even more deceptive and vile with how he speaks such cruel words, saying he is happy stoick is dead just because his mind changed on dragonkind, and he defrauds other dragon hunters for money and fame like he did with the warlords and harassing hiccup. Drago might’ve done some awful stuff and had a tragic backstory, but we never see him deceive anyone or manipulate someone’s mind (outside of brainwashing dragons), plus he only used his bewilderbeast as his main weapon and he wouldn’t have been the way he was if dragons did not invade his village. Grimmel on the other hand is shown to be an arrogant and attention seeking psychopath with what we hear from his backstory, only killing dragons for the sake of becoming and icon for hundreds of Vikings he sees as naive puppets.

@@zoorockf1 Hold up, let's old at what they both tried to do. Grimmel: Animal genocide, animal enslavement, mass expulsion (forcing Berk to move), mental warfare. Drago: Mass homicide, animal enslavement, animal abuse (expecally on a young Bewilderbeast, and using a bull hook no less), mental warfare (controlling Toothless), attempted world domination, annexing (taking over Berk) While I may of missed some of Grimmel's crimes (feel free to remind me if I have), but I'm pretty confident in saying that Drago is the more evil of the two. The both of them had an event in their lives that set the ground work for what they would do later in life, but only one of them would actively abuse and torture them to their own ends. And in my opinion at least, mass enslavement and abuse of the scale that Drago goes to is more evil then simply trying to kill all dragons.

For anyone wondering why Pitch is both, it's cause he's not a spirit, he's an alien warrior who was possessed by demons who just wanted to see his family again.

My headcannon for Kai: Taking into account how he was ambushed, had his brother in arms in a near death state, and helplessly looked for anything or anybody that can help them for weeks on end. Kai most likely traumatized by these events, sought out the power of chi to strengthen himself further, not wanting to ever relive those moments of powerlessness ever again. Oogway betraying him was further insult to injury

Personally, maybe caused of his lost arm he became evil to make dragons over his command. And in order to do that he steps foot on the dragons snout or such with *no fear* because a second he already knows what they can do, his cloak can avoid it. Maybe not pure evil but evil after the arm injury. Literally

Let's draw a line here. The Red Death is an animal, a very very developed animal but still not on the same evolutionary level with humans. Which means that it only follows it's nature, good or evil can't be applied on it.

Exactly, I always saw it as a force of nature rather than an evil creature, it was intelligent but never showed signs of real malice until it was provoked. Insatiable is a better way to explain it's actions, it was always hungry and never satisfied which would make any animal aggressive and quick to rage especially when attacked in that state of being

True, but it was also committing cannibalism and overall enslavement, which based on the dragons reactions, was a huge fear of theirs. She was highly intelligent- showcasing the ability to destroy priority targets (the boats that the berk forces came in on) before systematically taking out the offenders on her island. After Hiccup and Toothless both emerged as a threat, she focused on them specifically, recognizing them as the biggest threat in the room and focused her attention on them. This plus the fact that we have witnessed throughout the series that dragons are highly emotive, intelligent creatures, some of which like toothless id bet have equal if slightly less intelligence than their Viking counterparts, is enough to suggest that dragons do have some moral standards.

1 problem, Kai is not broken, any excuse he has is ultimately petty and not taken as sympathetic in the slightest.

Late, BUT. He's not supposed to KILL, he's supposed to GUIDE souls once they are officially DEAD. He tried to kill Puss before he died. When the Past Puss says "That's cheating!", Death shushes and says "Don't tell."

I kinda consider Jack Horner on the "both" list, considering the shitty childhood he had to endure with loving parents, a mansion, and a successful enterprise for him to inherit.

Here's the thing: Lord Farquaad-Pure Evil, he literally ruined a bunch of fairy tail's lives and tried to usurp and cheated the throne. Fairy Godmother-Both, well she does have care for his son, but also evil she tried to cheat someone's love and tried to usurp the throne. Prince Charming-Broken, he does have a few downsides like taking over the kingdom and attempted murder. Rumpelstiltskin-Pure Evil, he's a dirty cheater and ruined the lives of Far Far Away and Shrek. Fossas-Neither, well because it's just natural instincts on what animals have they're not that malicious or evil. Makunga-Pure Evil, doesn't care about anyone not even his subjects and once again usurped and cheated the throne. Chantel Dubois-Pure Evil, at first it looked like she was doing her job but when you realize she did a lot illegal things that she did not even regret like animal abuse, poaching, trespassing, aggrevated assault and attempted murder on Alex the Lion and lastly the use of a deadly poison. Red Death- Both, well it's obviously animal instincts because we'll she's a dragon but on the other hand she also kills her subjects and tried to kill Toothless and Hiccup and his friends and family. Drago Bludvist-Pure Evil, a complete whack job! Includes murdering Hiccups father, tried to destroy his village and enslaving the dragons a complete tyrant. Grimmel the Grisly-Pure Evil, another whack job! Including once again attempted murder, extinction of the night furies and dragon poaching and enslavement not a good person at all. Lord Shen-Pure Evil, including slaughtering an entire village full of pandas, killing his subjects who don't listen to orders, conquering other places and lastly usurping the throne. Kai-Pure Evil,sure he did help Oogway survive but his greedy actions for power literally costed him everything and has regard from anyone at all, and lastly he steals souls. Literally Evil.

Finally someone now doesn't see death as evil or broken.

Tai lung was such a badass, one of my favourite villains from my favourite movie, would love to see him again.

It's interesting to see how Villians differ from franchise to franchise. In Madagascar and in HTTYD they are exclusively pure evil, in Shrek they are both or more mixed, and in Kung Fu Panda they all are Broken. This can also correlate with amount of conflict and tension between them and the protagonist. In Madagascar, HTTYD and Shrek the emphasys is more on internal challenges that heroes face, their interactions and struggles. And in Kung Fu Panda it is more about Chemistry between villain and hero, which makes part 2 so good.

He cheated, though. Puss still had one life left, but since he didn't value any of the other ones, he decided that it would be better for him to just take the last one. So, he was abusing his power.

Even though he isn't here, I'd say Tighten is both too. Man was broken after being rejected by Roxanne, but then he really did go pure evil in destroying the town and doing whatever the hell he wanted to its people for his own enjoyment, like the "under new management" scene and all that

And why shouldnt he believe the magic glowing man, Metroman had his powers, adoring fans, beloved by everyone and got the girl. So clearly getting Metromans powers would do the same for him. Hell the start of the movie even has Megamind believe the same thing, that the other kids liked Metroman more than him because his powers were better than his intelligence. We even see a glimpse of how even after "winning" megamind wasnt happy with ruling the city so he created some to fight him and basically figured Jimmy Olsen would work.

Nice touch that Death isn't Pure Evil nor Broken. As he's the literal manifestation of "Death", He can't really be Pure Evil, as Death is natural, he doesn't pick sides; and he can't really be Broken either, cause he's not there to exact revenge or get back at someone, he is only doing his job to take someone's life when their life is up.

​@@matityaloran9157 yes, but it does not make him evil. Yes, death was breaking the rules by hunting puss down himself, but he only did so because puss broke the rules first. He however is not impartial since he enjoys puss' fear. Just as much as Lobo was death taking phisycal form, to him, puss was the embodyment of an insult to all the people who valued their lives and still met him in the end, so he hated him in a fundamental level, that being said, he wanted to torture him before the kill and that is why he kept letting him escape, puss coming to understand the value of life was just a consequence. Long story short, Death is more pissed about puss not valuing life than about his disrespect towards him.

Drago started as a broken person. But by the time we see him in rtte and httyd 2, he's become a pure evil monster.

I think Kai is moreso both than just broken. Oogway betrayed him but he seeked revenge upon people not related to anything Oogway created. Edit: On top of that, he wanted the Chi of the pandas that saved Oogways life for the sake of power.

I can't really see Kai as "Broken" considering he wanted to steal the Chi of every panda in the village for his own personal gain and no other reason so Oogway stopped him, but "Pure Evil" is a bit much cause before Oogway got hurt he was a loyal and pure hearted warrior that cared about Oogway

I like how most of DreamWorks characters are more vibrant than any other characters in the history of entertainment.

I think lord Shen would be straight-up pure evil. I mean, he was just a spoiled brat, that sought to make all pandas go extinct because of some prophecy about what would happen if he stay on the BAD path. And then, he was so shocked his parents were terrified of his action and banished him from the city. And then, he wanted to conquer the whole of China and kill kung-fu warriors that would stand against him. It nice compilation by the way, and very good. I am glad you have put Death (wolf) as "Neither"

I see no one defending the Red Death. Sure she was a giant destructive monster, but at the end of the day she’s an animal. A large one too so hunting would be a problem for her. And yeah she ate that Gronkle, but it bring her like 1 tiny fish 💀. Vikings came to her territory and attacked it. Not saying they had no reason, but if you’re gonna say the Fossa’s were neither, then Red Death is too for defending her territory.

Yes, but she's shown to have sapience and moral agency just like any other Dragon in the Franchise.

lord Shen is obviously both because neither he needed to change his fate or he was gonna die but he was probably gonna kill those pandas anyway

Why death is not a bad guy is because he thought puss was going to waste his last life so Death decided to take matters into his own hands, but during their last fight, Death sensed that Puss has truly learned his lesson and decided to leave him alone

I think Lord Shen is pure evil, I see no reason why he should be broken. He is the one who creates the broken. While for kai, I guess he's pure evil too, caus first he was good, but he became evil when he found out he could steal chi, there wasn't really anything that made him become evil.

The only one I disagree with is Kai, he became a Chi vampire the moment he learned he could, and was beaten by Oogway afterwards. At best he’s both, but he was certainly Evil before he was broken.

Tbh I think rumpel stiltskin is both. At the start of Shrek 4 we see he just wants to rule far far away but after that plan fails, due to Shrek having just rescued Fiona at the time, he becomes a disrespected, unloved outcast of society living on scraps so he wants to rule far far away even more so because he has ended up with such a miserable and lonely life and is fueled by his hate of Shrek ruining his original plan by rescuing Fiona

Shen is not broken, his parents disowned him after he committed genocide. He grew up in a palace with adoring parents, he was the evilest villain in the king fu panda trilogy.

Shen only needed to see one single prophecy to commit mass panda genocide and he would have pushed it to extinction if he new about the secret village

For me, Kai isn’t broken. He was greedy for more chi, and fought oogway, sent to the spirit realm.

I'd argue Grimmel is both. On one hand, he went on a genocide of the Night Furies, but he also never had any designs on power or dominance over others, rather just killing dragons for the sake of peace for humanity - the same way all Vikings were at the start of the series.

Not really. Bewilderbeasts eat fish at their size, not dragons. The Red Death enslaved and slaughtered dragons for food without a justifiable cause.

Oogway didn't betray him, he feels betrayed though in his perspective and was lonely for 500 years. Oogway was right but Kai still cared enough to atleast have reservations and held on to his amulet till the end. That's why I said he's broken.

Jack Horner is both Pure evil: wants to rule the world with his magic Broken: when he was a child he tried so hard to impress customers with his Horner pies but they were more impressed at ponocioh as seen in his flashback.

Shen is pure evil and he knows it because when his parents visited the goat lady shen was angry when he heard a warrior would defeat him impying that was planning to do evil anyways. Yeah he was upset at his parents but that didn't make him evil it made him more evil. Same thing with kai

Only Tai is broken for Kai he's pure evil he'd kill for power, but kinda broken to because of oogway, but he did it for the right reason to stop Kai from taking people life from power. Can't judge him for that

The reason I said no is because despite his backstory, he didn't care about anyone anyways, while Kai or Shen cared about Oogway and the Soothsayer respectively.

@@addictedtofauna3838 I have to say no to that Kai could have lived a good life with Oogway if he wasn't so selfish with taking away peoples' Chi for himself he put himself in that situation of betrayal as for Tai Lung and Shen are much deeper than that especially Shen Tai Lung was always told that he'd be more than just a master of Martial Arts but the dragon warrior after his hard effort to make Shifu proud it never paid off which infuriated him but then he was abandoned and left to die alone while someone else takes his place Shen has a more darker backstory when he was younger he dedicated his time to create weapons which in everyone's perspective would help defend China but his parents didn't see peace in that and called Soothsayer to predict what will happen if he follows his path when he overheard what the prophesy was he had a mission to kill all Pandas to secure his future out of fear, but permanently marked it and it goes to him by getting banished by his parents and leaving him with the idea that they never loved him and must have fallen into a river of denial

Red Death can eat fish tho, but it chooses to enslave dragons as it is too lazy to hunt for itself. Drago is slightly broken, he admitted he only wants power.
