As demonstrated in this reaction video, the understanding of Superman's embodiment of decency, morality, and goodness is universal. There's a reason why the Man of Steel's sigil is the second most recognized symbol after the Christian cross. It doesn't matter what your background or upbringing is. Superman is for everyone! And Christopher Reeve played him perfectly! Reeve's characterization isn't just the gold standard for the Man of Tomorrow . . . He's still the gold standard for all cinematic interpretations of superheroes!
As Babu said "Of all the superhero movies we've watched, this one had the best story".SO TRUE!!! This is an actual movie. Not just 8 billion dollars worth of CGI and guys flying around on a string in front of a green screen for the entire movie like Marvel movies.

@@ll7868 Obviously Reeves was flying in front of a green screen. The point i made was what Babu said that there was an actual STORY that made it a classic great movie. He was basically shitting on all the dumb Marvel movies they watch. He appreciated Superman a lot because of the STORY. Every one of the Marvel movies have literally the same plot. Just insert new character and make the same movie. Also most of the technology was available in the 90's and later but yet practical effects were still heavily used because it looks better.

I think the first movie I ever saw was Midway, 2nd was Star Wars and 3rd was Superman. John Williams scores elevated movies to masterpieces. 2001: A Space Odyssey was around that time too.
There were no computers used to create the effects in this film. This was the singlemost expensive film in history at the time, costing $55 million (busting Cleopatra's long-standing $44 million record). I would love to see the same villagers react to Superman II. I kind of think of the first two films as a duology, since they were largely shot together (total budget $99 million) and the seeds were planted for Superman II in the opening of Superman.
Even they know the best superhero film when they see it 😊

Some history... Superman was created in 1938 as a comic book hero. The character debuted in cinemas in a series of animated shorts beginning in 1941, and then was the protagonist of two movie serials in 1948 and 1950. An independent studio, Lippert Pictures, released the first Superman feature film, Superman and the Mole Men, starring George Reeves, in 1951.

Dumbest disguise ever, but Christopher Reeve made it work!
The reason why Superman, as well as Batman at those times, wore underpants over pants is because they imitate the fighters look of those years. Boxers and wrestlers couldn't be naked, just wearing thights, in the late 30's in USA, so they were used to wear skin colored tight jumpsuits under their underpants to seem naked, but without really be.

Babu you are my brother!👍😄🙏The late 70's were still pretty good for special effects, remember Star Wars was made a year earlier. I love this Superman movie, it was the second movie I ever saw after Star Wars. I was 4 years old when I saw Superman in 1978 at our local drive-in theater. As far as I was concerned, Christopher Reeve was and still is Superman. Yeah, I was that little kid in the late 70's running around our neighborhood in a Superman costume. Leaping off our family home roof. One afternoon I jumped from our roof onto a couch we had sitting in the backyard. My feet went straight through it, the foam, the springs, everything onto the ground. Amazing I never hurt myself. Hence the power of belief lol.

When this movie was first released in 1978 i watched it here in Sydney as a young boy, Mr Christopher Reeve portrayed the first and greatest superhero known to mankind perfectly. I enjoyed the watching the reactions of two generations here today, and i especially enjoyed the genuine and very real reaction of the senior gentleman. ‘Superman: The Movie.’ One of my top 5 most favorite DC live action movies of all time. Based on the Golden Age comic book series created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster (may both of them rest in peace).

The glasses as disguse is from the 30's comics and so ridiculous, but Reeve almost pulls it off with his entire body language and voice. Almost believable in comicsland.

Chrotopher Reeve was the only one to successfully pull off the Clark/Superman disguise. You could physically see him morph from Clark to Superman with a combination of meek demeanor vs stoic confidence anxious speech vs forceful and clear speech, slumping vs standing tall, and the glasses as the linchpin all being pulled off simulataneously. He was a hell of a thespian.
Superman was ahead of his time. He invented wearing underwear on top of your clothes, and it didn't catch on until Madonna rediscoved it.
I loved your reactionl...thank you so much... Good journey :) Peace!
I love how they thought CGI might have been involved, no just wonderful special effects guys one of whom was Britain's superb Derek Meddings of Gerry Andersons Thunderbirds 1965 etc. the models and slow motion water of the dam etc classic Anderson effects, oh and Christopher Reeve was and is the best ever Superman
Chris Reeve is still the best Superman. Sure the new ones look better in some ways, although Chris really nailed the flying motions better than anyone else had,but Reeve captured the spirit of Superman in a way that has yet to be outdone. As much as I like other actors like Dean Cain, Reeve is still the gold standard. Now in this age of DEI,ESG nonsense its difficult to believe that they could recapture the true heroic nature of this character. They would call it problematic for such a truly good and noble character to exist. Which of course is what communism does. It takes away heroes that stand for something greater in life.
Movies and videogames of old times look way better on a CRT TV :)
In 1999 I flew around the Statue of Liberty in a helicopter, pretty much the same as the movie. 2 years later, 9/11 happened, and no one can ever do it again. Great experience.

37:05 Babu: I feel strange. He is wearing tights over the pants 😂😂😂
I'm curious to see their reaction to Superman 3, namely because it features a supercomputer, which even by today's standards is wonderfully adavanced.
This version of the character had unlimited strength, meaning the helicopter weight of 3,500pound is like a human picking up a single sugar grain it wouldn't feel like anything to him.

My theory is that they feared the Daxamites and the Daxamites were as powerless in a white dwarf system as the Kryptonians so they would never attack them there, out in space the Daxamites were more powerful, the Kryptonians were scared to leave their safe space because they were artists, musicians and scientists not soldiers like the Daxamites.
