Albanian Village Life KZread: / albanianvillagelife
Having spent a few days in the capital city of Albania, I continue my journey by leaving Tirana and heading slightly Northwest. I took a minivan, which is the most common public transportation in Albania, and paid five Euros for a two-hour journey. The van drove further away from Tirana to a small town called Burrell, before continuing towards the hilly village of Kurdari. Over the next few days, I will be staying with a local family in Kurdari. I have always preferred slow travel through which I'm able to get a sense of understanding by fully immersing myself in the local way of life.

ABOUT ME:
In 2013, I started my solo travel journey, leaving Indonesia in 2016 to become a full-time traveler and KZread creator. My background in International Relations has fueled a profound interest in exploring different countries. My content focuses on exploring different cultures through the lens of a solo female traveler, aiming to capture real-life interactions and experiences.
My travels kicked off with a five-month trip across Asia, after which I moved to China in January 2017 to work as an English teacher-my first time living abroad. I left China in 2018 to fully commit to creating videos on KZread, where I share my travels and the cultures I encounter.
Living nomadically since 2016, I settled in England in early 2022 after marrying my British husband, David. Now based in the UK, I continue to travel and share my adventures on KZread.

@@Flat_Earth_Addy Haaaa... good description. But you should Visit the mountains.... that is the real beauty of this nation and the people are friendly. 70% of this nation is mountains. The big cities are very dirty and very bad organized..... good only to pay high prices and suck up dust.

I was born in Albania, lived there till I was 31 and than moved to US now for 37 years. When I see this it makes me very proud, wonderful, lovely people with fantastic display of hospitality and traditional cooking, reminds me of my childhood. I like to spend a couple of days with these beautiful people as soon as I go back to Albani.
I'm glad that finally a blogger went where nobody ever goes, deep into Albanian countryside to experience life in the mountainous areas where the real life of Albanians pulsates. If you really want to know Albanian lifestyle just go inside the country, not only on the seaside areas or the capital. This is the REAL LIFE. Even though this area does not constitute as the highest mountanious area in Albania,( there are even higher mountain areas behind these villages), still it shows you how life in the mountain villages really is. I used to pass these villages on my way to my grandma's village, further east into an area with more higher mountains and this family's life is so similar to that of my grandma's and other auntie's and uncle's homes. And, I assure you; THE FOOD 'S TASTE IS OUTSTANDING, even better than in our low lands. There is smth about mountains, the water or the air just makes the taste of the food even better.......LOVE MOUNTAINS!
My mum's german and my dad is from a rural village in kosovo and loves his country very much, spent all my summerbreaks growing up in kosovo in his home village with no internet, caring for the farm animals and stuff. those landscapes bring me back. there are no nightskies alike those in my dad's village. I still remember eating my mum's freshly made waffles while staring at the nightsky.

True. They produce everything, from wheat to every vegetable and fruits that exist. The food that my grandma cooked out there was cooked with butter,( she produced it, totally fresh, so she didn't need to buy anything, even oil), but for some reasons nobody ever had cholesterol or obesity problems even though you could eat a lot of "fat". Fresh, 100% organic products, not the type of organic tomatoes that I buy in London supermarkets and all tomatoes are the same, same size and shape ( !! strangely) and they don't taste as my tomatoes in Albania AT ALL.... The real organic tomatoes are always different size from one another and with funny shapes.( not pretty looking). I spent a lot of time in the village to learn what the organic food really tastes and look.
