I had a big smile on my face when she said that, too. I'm originally from Vietnam, and there's still a mausoleum in Hanoi with the embalmed body of Ho Chi Minh in there. The mausoleum is like a replica of Lenin's in Moscow, and it is said that they have to bring Ho Chi Minh body to Russia every year for the "maintenance'. If I were to visit Ho Chi Minh mausoleum, I would probably have the same reaction!

@@barreloffun10 As for Ho Chi Minh, I think some older folks from the north still see him as the one that led the fight for independence, while older folks from the south consider him primarily responsible for the meaningless war that killed almost 3 million Vietnamese (and Vietnam got its "independence" later than most countries in the region that did not experience wars). For younger Vietnamese, and most Vietnamese are young now, Ho Chi Minh is an irrelevant figure. They know his name, but ask them and they would know a lot more about Elon Musk and Steve Jobs and K-pop singers! It's harder to say whether they're sick of communism because of several factors. First, most Vietnamese have not experienced anything but communism, so they have nothing to compare to. Second, just like China, Vietnam is a communist country in the political sense of the word, but economically it's pretty much a capitalist society now.

You are confusing central Moscow (and St Petersburg) with Russia. They are very different things. I lived in central Moscow (just outside the 3rd ring road, I could literally see St Basil's and the Kremlin from my window, and walk there in 70 minutes) for three years 2015-2018. Yes, it's very nice there, if you can ignore the government and politics. Go an hour outside Moscow and it's absolutely different with villages with dirt/mud roads lined by shacks.

As an American I was on Red Square in 1980 as a tourist, wow 43 years ago! My brother was studying in Germany at the time and got me on a German student trip to Moscow and Leningrad (as it was called then). Didn't get to see Lenin though, it was summer and I was wearing shorts and they made me get out of line because it was disrespectful or something so I went into GUM. It was pretty empty then, looks much better now. Also walked out in some great big park nearby which was great. Lots of Russians swimming, picnicking and old men playing chess in the clearings in the woods. Enjoyed that experience much more. Very interesting trip, right at the close of the Brezhnev era.

It's a conundrum. If you say "I can't speak German" in Russian, the German speaker doesn't understand you. But if you say it in German (Ich kann nicht Deutsch sprechen), then the person doesn't believe you and tries to speak to you in German anyway. "Nemetski" sounds nothing like "German" in German.

I grew up in Vietnam during the time when everything was about Russia -- the Russian movies we watched each night on TV, the rock bands that visited Saigon (Western music was banned then), the Russian language classes we were required to take, and the roughly 70% of foreigners we saw on the stress...so much so that Russia became a must on my bucket list. Russia is still one of the places I like to visit, but I don't see that happening anytime soon now that I'm a US citizen.

Nesty, each of your videos is becoming a mini-movie, complete with drama, suspense, comedy and pathos. They are as entertaining as they are informative. Central Moscow is beautiful -- I can see why the natives feel so insulated from the rest of the country and what is going on "next door". And yes, holding up a paper sign in Red Square seems like a distinctly bad idea. I'm sure your granny will be thrilled with her present but _dang,_ that was expensive. P.S. Lemon curd is something we used to spread on bread as kids, though the lemon pie taste was as weird on bread as it must be in a drink. I see Stars has kept that cringey Starbucks policy of wanting your name just to order coffee.

Nesty, it is so amazing to see each one of my Russian vloggers I subscribe to visit Moscow. It is the same place, but the perspectives are always different and fun to see. A day of chocolates and VR. What an interesting combo that I will have to try! I was hoping to hear thoughts on more tasting Star's over Starbucks . Hope you had a great time there. Love the new boyfriend!🤣🤣🤣. 14 yrs old and a smoker, wow! 🤣🤣🤣

Awesome video, Nesty! Inner city Moscow seems very sophisticated and vibrant. It's interesting how Western brands like Starbucks and McDonald's have been rebranded in Russia. I wonder if they'll change back to their original names and logos after the special military operation. That guy at the end who wanted to be your boyfriend seemed sightly creepy...
