Absolute capitulation in the space of 9 mins! glad we’ve got Ollie to rescue a point but I was stunned at the game today we have to become more defensively solid. Thought Diego had a great first half with crucial interventions and then he slipped away 2nd half at least we got a point but don’t see us getting anything at arsenal but main thing we need to qualify in the conference league

Brentford fan here, we've had 10 starting players out for most of the season, even today our top 4 choice defenders were all still out as they have been for months - but with Mbuemo finally back from injury we are starting to look more like the team that finished only 2 points behind you last season. Best of luck for the rest of the season and hope you make the top 4

That's why you can never afford to sit back on a 2-0 lead. We should have been out of sight in the first half and the game should have been put to bed. We definitely need to upgrade defensively in the summer.

I was so pissed off, how villa threw it away.

The defence need to wake up and stop switching off, the jobs not done yet!

If you thought Brentford were sloppy, shocking, terrible in the first half, you should have seen us against Brighton when we gave the ball away and got caught in possession for 93 minutes. This was a vast improvement. After 46 mins I thought 2-0 would become 4-0. We (Bees fans) couldn't believe it when our third goal went in. The pivotal point was in the 76th minute when Reguilon went off (he was fantastic for our goals). Being replaced by a left winger having to play left back, meant that you doubled up on the right wing and put in lots of deep crosses and it was inevitable you would equalise (great Watkins header). At least I can hold my head up with the Villa season ticket holder a few doors from me and all the people at work. Three draws in a week. I would rather have beaten Man U, drawn with Brighton and lost to you as we would have got 4 points. Hope you win the Europa Conference League.

Great meeting you guys and sharing some pints! 9 mins of madness on the backline ruined at great afternoon. There were acres of space on all 3 goals, and now not having Luiz for 2 matches will really hurt.

Interesting that the point about how many goals we concede is now being brought up. This concern was shut down before Christmas because we beat city and kept a clean sheet.

I still don't know where that came from, really bad day compounded with Dougie getting booked seconds from the end.

I was in The Holte End today and the atmosphere was rocking. I literally lost my voice and am still croaking now. But we've got to learn game management. It's not the first time this season that we've switched off, and it's costing us dear. And what the f*** was Dougie doing at the end? Idiot. 😳

I came all the way from Australia for a precious two visits to the Villa Park I first saw 66 years ago, and this was how it ended. I thought I had seen it all. There is a lot of work for Unai to do. Thanks for your work Max.

That 9 minute spell clearly takes precedence in terms of the main feature of the game. However, in that first half it was frustrating that we didn't try something different once in a while. Brentford were sitting so deep, if on an occasion a player could've just took an extra touch towards the box and had a shot from distance it may have got them thinking. Brentford knew exactly what we would do, keep going left to right and then cross, so they sat deep, which left space to take a touch around the box and get a shot off. If they feared a shot from distance once in a while, they may have broke formation, which then would've allowed us to move them around a bit more. We have decent players who can shoot from distance, we need to mix it up once in a while with a low block. I appreciate we scored 3, so possibly this isn't a major talking point, but we could've put that game to bed in the first half.

Love going to the Hockley Social before the games now, since the Barton Arms shut. Villa very comfortable in possession, just 10 mins of implosion with them all being very similar goals… I still believe we’ll get 4th!

As much as I love the Villa, sometimes we really are our own worst enemies - cannot keep the ball, constantly giving it back to the opposition, giving away stupid free kicks in dangerous areas, and switching off in defence whether it be in open play or from set pieces. I've lost count of the number of times we've thrown away a 2-0 lead over the years. I hate to say it, but that second half performance was nowhere near the standard required for CL football. The only consolation was the fight back and that we salvaged a point. If Brentford can do that to us, who's to say we can't do something similar away to Arsenal (even without Dougie)? UTV

1. First of all credit to the lads for fighting back, and getting a point out of it, thats a big positive. 2. But that 9 minutes was the most lazy, naive, mentally fragile performance ive seen since the debacle against Wolves. As Max said, not going to play CL football if you play like that. We were absolutely cruising, they had nothing and then we go and throw it away. 3. Thats our last life used up, cannot throw another game this season, otherwise we're relying on Spurs to be spursy, and under Ange thats not going to happen. Need at least a point if not 2 from Arsenal and Liverpool, and we need to take 10 at a minimum from Bournemouth, Chelsea, Brighton and Palace. Anything less and were hoping for that 5th CL spot. 4. Konsa has to at least work the keeper from that chance. Its a free header for christ sake, Dias, Gabriel, Van Dijk would all score in that situation, and as a whole I think it is an area of Konsa's game, but also the team to be worked on. You need big headed goals from your centre backs a few times a season, and that just has never happened. Villa used to be the best at it, Mellberg and Larsen would get almost 10 goals a season between them. What is McPhee doing exactly as set peice coach? needs to improve 5. Although it was incredibly dissapointing and and frankly stupid from Dougie to get another yellow in those circumstances, I think we can work around it. We now know for certain he'll be playing all of both legs against Lille, and that he can put 110% into those games. McGinn is back and will slot into Dougies spot for Arsenal. UTV, bring home a point from london

bit disappointed about luiz with that last minute yellow. he will be missed for those 2 games.

Was standing right behind the goal at the North stand so saw the horror show close up. Emi didn’t look up for it at all and the defending was school boy stuff. At the end the Brentford fans were singing “Champions League, you’re having a laugh”and based on how we crumbled after being 2-0 up it’s a worry. We are not guaranteed 4th or 5th place and we still have tough games ahead of us. Hopefully we can make amends on Thursday. UTV!!!

Take nothing away from Brentford but we should be winning that when we are 2-0 up. I think they should be in early tomorrow morning to learn how to defend because that's not acceptable. Pleased for young Rogers he is proving to be good this is probably going to cost us the top four and if it does we only have ourselves to blame. We are missing Kamara massively, we need that extra player supporting the back line. Mings as well, his leadership at the back is so crucial to us. I agree with what Ollie said after the game, we need a better mentality when leading in games - ultimately i think this summer’s focus should be experienced players who have fought for trophies

I think Emery may have missed a trick ok Kamara is the only natural 6 we have he should have maybe put McGinn in his place or been brave and played Tim. Tielemans is not a CDM/6 he should be played as a 10.

Too many players gone off the boil. Konsa isn't a right back...can't stop crosses,gets all the way to the opposition area and goes backwards instead of putting in a cross! Luiz was playing well and scoring goals...all disappeared! The only saving grace is Tottenham have 5 difficult games against Newcastle Chelsea and the top 3 but if Villa don't get their act together that won't matter!

A good team has that strong middle spine. Read about the strong defence we had in the late 70s and early 80s and our achievements then. We certainly miss Mings with his brilliant organisational skills. Torres and Carlos are so lackadaisical at times, as they were today in that 10 minute spell around the hour mark. We've conceded far too many soft goals. As you and Simon said that goodness for Watkins Emery and team need to sort out the defence in the summer. Also I don't like Konsa at right back--that position needs to be sorted out properly.

It’s all my fault. When our 2nd goal went in I said to my wife that we mustn’t relax and it was important not to let Brentford score - which they then did! I then said that they’d score another now as this is Villa…. which they did! I then said we could easily lose this- and they then scored a third. The next few minutes were then all a bit of a daze to be honest until Ollie got us out of jail and I then decided to stop the Mystic Meg impressions. Lesson learned is don’t get married 😮

There was a strange mistake going on in Villa's defence today. They were running forward to get an offside from Brentford and it was failing badly. We need a updated defence strategy because this happens a lot!

I was working in the garden and we were 2-0 up. Came back in after 10 mins and checked the score WWWHHHHAAAATTTTT!!!!! We should be used to it being Villa fans, but to me if you’re 10 up, get 11!!!! NEVER SIT BACK!!!!! Thank goodness for Watkins. We’ve done well to be in the top four for most of the season, but if we’re not careful Spurs could be taking our place!!! Konsa has played a lot of football this season and the international friendlies on top of the congested fixtures and cash being out so not being able to rotate or share minutes showed today in konsa performance.

First goal was a fluke, slightly mis-hit ball hopfully smashed accross the box, hit their payers standing leg and it bobbled in. It seemed to rock us and give huge confidence to Brentford, we went from calm and composed to a nervous wreck while Brentford went from woeful to wonderful and it took us abut 15 minutes to gain any sort of composure back, the time it took to get composure back is what's concerning.

Unfortunately for us Villa fans, we do this a lot, I remember the Sheffield United game at home, win and we are top at christmas, we drew and had a completely different mindset for 2nd half of the season, then the man United game was 2-0 in that as well, poor result but we go again, ain’t that bad if we finish 5th
