I am 92. I was fortunate to have listened to him in Bombay from 40’s to 70’s. During his program visit in 1987 in Los Angeles, I was with him 12 hours daily for 7 days. It was the best time I had to know him as a person.

This must be in sixties or seventies when Vilayat was at his peak What brilliant classical style gayaki ang No gimmicks no singing Absolute technical supremacy and so melodious Nobody could touch him But his form detoriated from 80 s The greatest sitarist Vilayat Khan was from 1944 to 1980

What a man!! What clarity, what taan patterns!! Yug Purush !! How lucky we were to be born in his time and hear him.

Singing Sitar The 6:34 minutes of Alaap is vintage UVK. Salam Ustadji Salam wherever you are. Each and every stroke appears so measured, calculated. He strings us along revealing the different hues of the raag like petals of a flower, the emotions that this raag contains. Sets the scene for the gat portions where some absolutely sensational accompaniment by Shankarji compliments Ustadjis marvellous playing I have listened to it at least 10 times so far but every time I find something new !
