In my opinion, each of Ragnar's sons were made to embody one major aspect of his personality. Ivar is Ragnar's wit, which always came with him being ruthless as it was the part of him that made him a great conquerer. Sigurd was the embodiment of his sympathy, a trait that made Ragnar quite bad at conquering, but a great father, lover, and family member (this could be why Sigurd and Ivar never got along, since Ragnar's wit and desire for conquering interfered with his sense of sympathy all the time). Ubbe is the embodiment of his sense of justice, which is what made Ragnar a great ruler. Hvitserk embodies Ragnar's pursuit of the truth! More specifically, his struggle with his religion and moral code. And finally, Bjorn is the embodiment of his bravery, which is what made Ragnar a great fighter. Hope you guys like this interpretation. And please give it a thumbs up if you do. Been thinking about it for some time now.

I hope he knows fans of Vikings consider him one of THE best actors on live television, that there's practically no one who comes close to the way he so perfectly portrayed the acting complexity of Ragnar's character: a dreamer, a viking, a father, a warrior, a teacher, a husband, a leader, a brother, a friend, a philosopher, and a king; he's experienced joy, sadness, betrayal, longing, victory, arrogance, defeat, guilt, and anger all in just 4 seasons. Travis's acting range as Ragnar was just amazing.

There is something about this character, a character that I shall remember for the rest of my life. He teaches us a lesson on how to be selfish and yet humble, how to hate and how to love. He seeks knowledge above all, cause the purpose of life is just that, seeking the knowledge, seeking the meaning of the thing we call life, he does not cling to known concepts, religions, ideals. Those who preach peace, will Inevitably create war. He didn't seek to do the right thing, he sought something above such ideas. He sought pleasure in its purest form, understanding. He understood that in the end there is not a thing called destiny, that a man is the God that paves the road, which we call life.

@Severus Von Emreis I Understand where you are coming from, I was a Christian before, and I've come to understand, that its just selfish for a human being to preach their own beliefs to others. Cause in the end book is just a mere book, nothing more, and nothing else. What I meant by ''God" I didn't mean it in a religious way. Humans create, they destroy, same as any other life form, life breathes life, that's why life itself is a "God."

Heisenberg I don’t know who you’re referring to buddy, but all I said was that it’s not a documentary. They use the historical blueprint, but they don’t copy and paste it. From before the show even aired, the writer came out and said that. Shows and movies like this aren’t about being historically accurate, they’re about dramatizing those stories in a format suitable for a movie or TV drama, because let’s face it, no one would watch if it was 100% accurate. Real history doesn’t happen all at once, and it doesn’t always happen in a satisfying manner. There’s a reason all those KZread documentaries had a couple hundred views before the show and now they have thousands if not tens or hundreds of thousands of views. Those things are about getting people interested enough to go on and research for themselves, to see how it actually went down. Get over yourself.

Man is the master of his own fate, not the gods. Gods are the man's creation to give answers that they are too afraid to give themselves. Power is dangerous. It attracts the worst and corrupts the best. Power is only given to those who are prepared to lower themselves to pick it up.

Great tribute, you captured every aspect of his life. Ragnar is such a complex character. It was never easy to understand him. For me he was a curious man who questioned everything all the time, as he gained power he lost his happiness and became more solitary. He always struggled with power and religion. In the end he was tortured and alone. He didn't deserve to die like the worst traitor. Not even Rollo suffered that though he deserved it like no one else. Love ragnar's journey. He was extraordinary.

Amazing storytelling -- magnificent. The principal reason why Hollywood cannot recognize "Vikings" is because it was almost entirely an international, non-US production. American film legacy dominance and tribute is quite old. It is time for Canada, Australia, India, even Africa to build their own Awards followings -- If they did this correctly, these awards would rival the Oscars because of reach. Netflix, et. al has permanently liberated entertainment genre, topic, venue, etc. The Oscar would go the way of the VCR if this were to happen. As for me, I love the international content that is now available on Netflix.

Every epic has a great (yet flawed) hero. Homer's 'Odyssey' has Odysseus. Virgil's 'Aeneid' has Aeneas. In Malory's 'Le Morte d'Arthur,' it's the noble King Arthur. And 'Vikings' has Ragnar Lothbrok. He started out a simple farmer, yet became something far greater: a legend. But this status came at a heavy price and ultimately cost him his will to live. The responsibilities placed upon him were hard enough for an entire group or community of people to bear, let alone one man. I'd say he's certainly one of the most relatable, to say nothing of human, heroes of all time. His story is one of chasing greatness. It's something we all wish for ourselves, but he makes us question whether it's worth all the sacrifices we make in trying to achieve it.
