Senior and Solo traveler advice: Viking caters to seniors in about every aspect of what they do. They take care of all the nuisances of travel. The atmosphere, without children, is calm and elegant. For solo travelers, there is a solo travelers meet-up at the beginning of the cruise, which enables you to connect with other solo travelers. It can be more expensive to travel solo because of the single supplement. However, if you shop around, you may find discounts on the single supplement for specific cruises--particularly ones that are at the beginning or end of the season and are harder to sell. I paid a 50% rate for the single supplement on my cruise.

My sister is on the final day of her 14 day cruise of the Adriatic ending in Rome coming originally from Athens. I've kept up with her using marine vessel finder and the viking website on her cruise which shows the route and the days. Its been great fun following her on her trip!!

Sounds fabulous! I've heard of cruise trackers before, but never used them. I completed an Adriatic cruise last October with Regent Seven Seas. It was fabulous. I'm sure she's having an amazing time! Happy Travels!

I found that the safe in the room is big enough to put my 15.6" laptop in when we were leaving the room. The floor in the bathroom is heated, which is nice if you need to go in there during the night. The mirror in the bathroom is heated, so it doesn't fog up.

Just a minor point: I believe the infinity pool is at the rear of the ship not the front. The Explorer Lounge is at the front of deck 7 and is a great place for wildlife viewing. We cruised the reverse on the Viking Mars (Auckland to Sydney) on a subsequent (the next?) voyage (February 2023).

You did a good job here of showing everything quickly, and the editing is really nice. Personally, the music seems un-necessary and it’s a bit hard to hear you over the music but I have hearing issues, so likely it’s just me. Thanks for the share.

Thanks for watching and thanks for the feedback. And no, you are not wrong about the sound. It was the first video I created and I hadn't quite figured out the voiceover and music editing. I think I have it down now! I'm about to embark on another Viking ship...river cruise this time. I'm looking forward to creating another ship overview--with better sound! Thanks again.

This video is how I started watching you channel. I've been considering going on a cruise from the usa to the Mediterranean and they have a new route that goes to Rome or Barcelona (forgot which one). But for the price I'm not sure. I like the all-inclusiveness, etc....but it can get a little pricey for a solo unless you can somehow get a deal. Thank you for this video!

I managed to get the single supplement on this Viking Ocean cruise for 50% off, although it was still expensive. I've yet to find another Viking deal as good. The Adriatic cruise I just went on had a zero single supplement on an already discounted rate, which is why I took it. It was with Regent Seven Seas. If you look on their website, they have all the special deals listed. Since I've done more investigating, I've discovered much better deals for solo travelers, so I don't plan to pay that up-charge anymore. I recently spoke to a cruise broker who said Oceania had lots of deals for solo travelers. I understand that some cruise lines are now building their ships with many more solo cabins, as it is becoming more of a demand. That's good news. Glad my videos have been helpful. It encourages me to keep at it! Cheers

Viking's overall experience is wonderful. I just got back from a Viking riverboat cruise yesterday and was impressed once again. I met a bunch of people who have been on numerous Viking trips (one man was on his 12th!), so they generate brand loyalty. Viking goes out of its way to make you happy. I feel for you regarding the flights. I had enough points to travel business class, which made it more bearable. You could watch for business class deals (I know ZipAir has stripped down lie flat seats to Tokyo) Or, maybe travel halfway and enjoy a few places in between. I have to say that my trip there was just fabulous--well worth the pain of travel! I hope you find a way!

@@seniorsolotravel Hi therem my go to company for European river cruises is Uniworld Boutiue, excellent product for its price point and all inclusive. Smaller vessels than Vikings usually max out at 120-130 people. Ive done five cruises with them so far, have one more to do in Europe and that will be from Budapest to Passau Germany

@@yvescrepeau5955 Thanks for the info, I'll definitely check them out. The Viking river boat I just took on the Douro River in Portugal had 106 passengers, so they also have smaller ships. I think their long boats have more. Did you travel solo on Uniworld? Do they offer any discounts for seniors?

@@seniorsolotravel I do believe they have senior discounts but definitely solo travelers discounts. Thats how I can afford to sail with them. I would give them a try and they ahve boats in Vietnam and in South America but "manned" by local crewa. In central Europe their ships are mosly staffed by Romanians

I paid 50% of the single supplement for this cruise, which is more than I would normally like to pay. And frankly, I have not found any Viking cruises recently that offer any single discount at all. I think they are fully booking their ships, so the best offers you usually get are free airfare. I try to avoid paying for an imaginary person! The places I have found the most zero single supplement deals are for repositioning cruises or cruises that are at the beginning or the end of a season. Let me know if you have other questions and happy travels.

Do Viking offer deals for solo travellers? I’ve often seen solo deals elsewhere but never with Viking?

  • @seniorsolotravel

I paid 50% of the single supplement on my Viking trip to Australia/New Zealand, which was one of the reasons I did it (although still expensive). However, I agree, they don't seem to have as many offers. Your best bet is on the repositioning cruises. I signed up for their newsletter and email blasts, so I get notifications for offers. I recently got a zero single supplement on an already discounted cruise on Regent Seven Seas, so the deals are out there if you look for them. Let me know if you find any great deals and I will too!
