    "What was the colour of the Libyan flag?" is the best response to all the blue and yellow profile pics I have ever heard. NATO absolutely invaded that country on the pretext that a genocide "might" happen yet and western liberals support it but when Russia intervenes to stop a documented actual killing of thousands of people it is unthinkable. The fact that people were sharing a photo of a Palestinian child confronting an Israeli soldier and thinking it was a Ukrainian child and a Russian soldier when many of those people support Israel's occupation is definitive evidence of the West's racist double standard. "Kiev isn't the kind of place that should be bombed" is just a way of saying "there're places that should be bombed, and we all know which ones they are because they are the places the West *has* bombed.

    You got it nailed! However, my idea of Ukraine was perceived after knowing this Ukrainian youngster who wears a jacket with the double S lightening features, and another incident where also a Ukrainian man, sold a bike tune-up with Nazi emblems to an unsuspecting African boy. Both experiences took place in Western Europe!

    How ironic when you consider that the original Nazi Party came to the US before the start of WWII to study the mechanics of homegrown US based fascism. The US government (CIA) along with US based NGO's would later finance and foster the growth of the Azov Battalion nearly a century later. You can't make this stuff up.

    The similarities between Cyprus and Ukraine are obvious. Britain, together with the US divided the Ukrainians by using the fascist Azov battalions as their fifth collum. In Cyprus, it was EOKA B. This conflict between people caused tremendous pain and suffering to the Cypriots. Unfortunately, the same will happen to the Ukrainians and the losses are suffered as always by the ordinary people.

    Vijay's analysis is correct. Azov and Aidar battalions are recognized by the western govt as fascist forces. These groups were incorporated into the official armed forces in Ukraine. Didn't Mitch see these groups and thousands others fascists marching the roads of Kiev?Are you not aware that Stepan Bandera, a Nazi associates and killer of thousands of Jews and Poles, was declared as National Hero? Where were you when Ukrainian army killed hundreds of ethnic russians in eastern Ukraine? Don't you know that anything related to Russian culture and language is under severe restrictions in Ukraine? These are undeniable facts.

    Stepan Bandera's Honor was revoked by the next president and has never been reinstated, you failed to mention that, why?! He was honored by the previous ousted President(2010) who used it as a last ditched effort to please the extreme right to turn out the votes but the Ukrainian people rejected that and in the elections ousted him has sovereignty and power is determined by the Ukrainian people. Did you know that thousands of ethnic Ukrainians were chased away from eastern Ukraine and killed? Why are you selective? Also, It was the militia that was bombing civilian places and they are probably the ones who killed the ethnic Russians. There has been no independent investigation of that war since the separatist militia prevented UN investigators, they even shot down a civilian plane carrying innocent people and have refused to hand over the perpetrators. Why prevent, if they were innocent and good people just fighting for their rights. Do they have something nasty to hide? We know Putin Bombed and Killed Russians in Moscow to justify the Chechnyan war, so if he did that to Russians in Moscow in the 90's what prevented him to do the same outside Russia. The restrictions to the use of the Russian language are utterly false even the current president speaks Russian, this was just propaganda with no evidence. The current President Zelensky is a jew, how can he support Bandera when he was a collaborator of Hitler, it just doesn't make any logical sense. You are clearly ignorant of the History of Ukraine or you are a BOT. Azov and Aidar battalions were never incorporated into the Ukrainian army again lies and propaganda site evidence that is not linked to the Russian Regime! These people support Hitler's invasion of Ukraine and the murder of Jews! How can the Jewish president of Ukraine allow these people in his army? These people took advantage of a disorganized Ukrainian Army and started fighting their own wars and they follow no orders from the Ukrainian government! Since the Ukrainian army is thinly spread out and under-developed these thugs just like the separatist militias have taken the laws into their own hands. They even fight Ukrainian army if they interfere in their activities.

    @@vito9072 ..you are spreading lies. Stepan Bandera is a national hero even under the President Zelenski. There are squares, Alleys and main roads in many towns, including Kiev named after Stepan Bandera and Shukhievich. Regarding Zelenski being a Jewish doesnt mean that he cant support Bandera, a Nazi associate. He recognizes Bandera as national hero. He lays flower to these Nazi associates statues. Tell me when did Zelenski revoked the honor of Bandera? By which order, on which date? Regarding Azov, Aidar, C14, Right Sector were integrated in to the official armed forces wings. Like National Guards, territorial forces, Ukrainian national army etc. Their leader Beletski remained outside but recently he was also assigned as an adviser to the Ministry of Defence. Regarding discrimination to the Russian language and culture please go to the official document by which all Russian language schools were closed since 1st of January, during the rule of Zelenski. I have heard his election speeches where he said that he is by religion Jew, by language Russian and by nationality a Ukrainian, therefore he represents all sections of the Ukrainian societies. But after the election he ditched many, primarily the ethnic Russians who casted 80% votes in his favour. He even struck out Russians from the list of ethnic minorities in Ukraine. He, being the 'Champion of Democracy' closed three opposition tv channels during the last six months. So on and on.. please do not blame others because of your ignorance.

Ukrainians have not seen the suffering of 4 million Russians for 8 years in Donbass. Where were all the so-called democratic countries when outright nationalism and fascism became the ideology of Ukraine? Russia came to Ukraine not to start, but to end a long-term war. • @timcoolican459
    @timcoolican4592 жыл бұрын

    Vijay is on point, regarding Russia's reasoning to enter Ukraine. I'm glad he referenced the conflict in Georgia as well, because both of these conflicts are inexorably linked from events that transpired in 2004. Back then, there was a socio-democrat or liberal movement growing within both country's political arenas, backed up, as Prashad mentioned, by the US, EU, and UN. These were the 'color revolutions' of both countries...orange for Ukraine, rose for Georgia. Both Ukraine and Georgia had simultaneous protests, in November of 2003, consisting of supporters from the new popular socio-democratic parties, which both made claims of voter fraud, each touting exiting polling as the reason for such claims. With the involvement of different international electoral observance organizations, including numerous other countries' interests, the vote tabulations in Georgia, and re-election in Ukraine, each found the socio-democrat parties to be the victors. A strange coincidence, or tampered election fixing? It is important to note that foreign support, in the form of NGO's, as well as government relations from countries like the US, were instrumental in establishing this new liberal / socio-democratic populism. In fact, a representative from the United States Busch administration, former Secretary of State James Baker, was sent by George W, with a message to all parties in Georgia regarding the fundamental imperative to hold fair elections, with Baker to establish a formula to do so. Regardless, this sparked a sentiment of separatism resurgence for ethnic Russian speaking Georgians. The oblasts of Ossetia and Abkhazia had always been in conflict with the newly formed Georgian republic of the former Soviet Union, since the early 90's. The breakdown of relations pushed Russia into Georgia, in 2008, to establish the republics of the separatist oblasts, as well as sending a message to foreign countries and more specifically the US and NATO, to keep away from Russian borders. The same is now happening in Ukraine, as we have seen unfolding for the past eight years. In 2014, the bloody Euromaidan Revolution saw three oblasts in Ukraine, seeking independence from the coup of Yanukovych's government. Odessa, Donetsk, and Luhansk. Unfortunately, Odessa did not get a chance to establish their republic. Protesters there trapped Russo-Ukrainian counter protesters inside a building, which they burnt to the ground. This atrocity sent Russo-Ukrainians fleeing Odessa, for fear they would be next. However, the other two oblasts managed to claim their territories as republics, at least in the eyes of Russia. This is also when Russia annexed Crimea, without so much as firing one shot. The Crimean people voted overwhelmingly to rejoin Russia, as the bulk of Crimea was inhabited by ethnic Russo-Ukrainians. It is important to note here that more US support was shown, for the socio-democrat protestors back in 2014, as numerous American pundits like Senators Lindsay Graham, John McCain, and then Assistant Secretary of State for European & Eurasian Affairs, Victoria Nuland, who showed their support in person, at the Euromaidan protests. Another catalyst for the Russians, which is no small mention regarding events in 2004, is the expansion of NATO to accept memberships of five more former Soviet countries. They included Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, along Russia's northwest borders and Romania and Bulgaria on the western shores of the Black Sea. NATO also took Slovakia and Slovenia into their membership, on Ukraine's western borders. It seemed that NATO member states would be encircling Russia's entire western border and the rim of the Black Sea. In fact, the only remaining countries on Russia's western border, to not join NATO (excluding Belarus), were Ukraine and Georgia. You can see why Putin felt threatened here. What makes Mr. Prashad think that Putin didn't follow diplomatic avenues? Because he did. Thanks L&P.

I wish this would stop, but I already have a hard time, making my own family understand, that "we" really have no right to name-call the Russians for doing what "we" do. To my mind, on a very evil level, they act slightly less evil: they go to war to protect their fellow Russians and fend off a military threat, "we" turn the middle east into a bloodbath for greed for oil. And I am proud to say, that I DID know the color of the Syrian flag, and I did mourn the murders of people in the middle east. Maybe I should organize a peace demonstration here in Berlin...

From the old Grand Duchy of Moscow, they expanded westward until they hit Germany (and turned East Germany into a protectorate under Stalin), and eastward all the way to Alaska. In the 19th-century, they joined the rest of European imperialism in carving up China. Besides that was a brutal campaign to subdue Central Asia all the way to the Iranian frontier. No - aesthetics are not shallow imo if one sees the external as part of the totality of a man/person. most handsome men want to be seen and known for their depth rather than only for what they look like. I knew he would have a good take on this. Prashad definitely had a huge role in informing my reassessment of China. I didn't even know he had this website, thank you for linking it. He is definitely right that the Russian government has done a poor job at getting their own narrative out and gaining widespread acknowledgment of Ukraine's crimes against Russian speakers. I think Putin assumed there would be no point in going to the UN because it's a US dominated institution and he probably knew that Western media would delegitimize his claims no matter what. Still, despite that they could have done these things to show that they had exhausted all possible avenues before resorting to war. This is a shortcoming of the Putin government which is *not* Western propaganda. Just because you can win a war militarily doesn't mean you don't have to do everything possible to get people onside.

I respect that V Prashad feels that the UN and international law could have been used by the Russian to present their case as an alternative to war. But can’t we agree that A) Russia doesn’t have the same power as the European and specially the US in controlling the narrative and policy of the UN. B)the imperialist agenda and plan of the US in Ukraine blocked any attempt by Russia to expose the problem. And c) that there is a serious and Dangerous anti Russian political and cultural biases in Western European and the United States It would have been nice to actually have a UN that is independent of imperialist control, but we all know that is not the case. That’s why we still have Israeli occupation of Palestine. Just being a realist in term of how international laws are selectively applied and enforced.

    If the UN were a viable organization that reflected the world situation, it would have condemned the violent U.S.-backed coup in 2014 that brought fascists into the government and the military. The U.S. then stocked Ukraine with weapons, weapons that the military used against the Russian-speaking people in the Donbass, who declared their independence, giving birth to the Lugansk People's Republic and Donetsk People's Republic. Since the UN didn't act, its rules take a back seat to the safety of the people in the Donbass. Other reasons exist, but this is the ONLY reason that should be necessary to understand their military action.
