I was an extra on LotR and one of my favourite souvenirs is a hand-written, hand-addressed letter that Viggo wrote to extras who'd been at Helm's Deep saying "It was a privilege serving with you".

Viggo Mortensen is mored passionate about, and dedicated to, the craft that is acting more than anyone I’ve ever seen in my lifetime. “Captain Fantastic” is one of the most impactful movies, and poignant performances, I’ve ever spent 2+ hours of my time viewing. The fact that he’s never been awarded an Oscar is shameful. Yet, in spite of all of this, he’s remained extraordinarily humble.

@@david9243 I think maybe a reference to Galdalf telling Sauroman that there is "one Lord of the Rings and he does not share power" as a vieled reference to God. I kind of wondered that during the movie myself since Tolkien wove many spiritual references in his books.
@david9243
23 күн бұрын
@@lehcaraz1 : Yeah but Sauron is a metaphor for Satan - who took residence and claimed lordship of the world. He cant do the things God can do but with the making of the Rings of power he can control and claim Gods creation (bending their will to his own). Tolkien expands on the God concept in order to reach even polytheists since Sauron are part of lower spirits to the one God (Eru) who founded and built the earth so he is disciple of the fabric of earth. In contrast to God of the bible the God in Lord of the Rings left the founding to His firstborn spirits to build

He had a great career before that ring movie.
I had the privilege of meeting Viggo Mortensen on the set of G.I. Jane. I was hired by Demi Moore as her personal Licensed Neuromuscular Massage Therapist. I had no idea who Viggo was. I asked a couple of make up artists, 'Who is that guy"? " He Never Smiles", they said; "You don't know who Viggo is "? So they called him over and told him what I said, and he did a quick smile 😊. He was practicing his character, which was why he looked so stern. Later he contacted me while in Beufort, SC, for a Massage. He was super kind, gave me a nice tip, and a Navy Seal Watch for my son. Having such a great opportunity to work with all involved in the filming was the best experience of my life. 💯💙😊💙🖐💙✌️🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊

Can I ask, and I'm genuinely curious, because the stress on the 'ú' is correct, as far as I understand it - how do you pronounce Andúril?
@ShogunEorling
4 күн бұрын
@@liamglynch The "ú" is actually correctly pronounced, it's the "r" and the "il" that are not. The "r" should sound slightly heavier by pronouncing it with the tip of your tongue right behind your front teeth (hope I explained myself clearly). The "il" should sound "eel". And if we're to be strict about it Stephen made the "A" in "An" silent, almost like "Ndú--" which shouldn't be. Edit: Hugo Weaving pronounced both "Andúril" and "Narsil" very well.
@liamglynch
3 күн бұрын
@@ShogunEorling ahhh, I see what you mean. Yes, you’re right. Forgive me, I thought your implied point was simply about the stressing of the ú. Yes, the harder r and the il being more like eel are how I pronounce it and had read as correct. Thanks for clarifying. In the Jackson films, even in Weaving’s pronunciation, it still seems like the a, not the ú, are stressed. As a younger man and firstly a film fan, I got so used to that, and even Viggo stresses the first syllable.

Seeing how good and fresh he looks i so much want him back as Aragorn in The Hunt for Gollum. And Ian as Gandalf as well, one last time :').
If you are a fan of Viggo please go and see this movie. It is beautifully shot and the lead actress is fantastic. Viggo spent much of his own money to finance the movie and not only wrote the script, he directed, produced, acted, and scored the music as well as played several of the instruments. It is a passion project that took him many years to make. The movie has great reviews by the critics, and Rotten Tomatoes high score. Very few people were in the theatre when I went and almost all appeared to be over sixty! It is so sad that people only go see blockbuster animated or superhero/Star Wars type movies anymore at the theatre. I was thrilled to see Oppenheimer do so well. Believe me that would not have turned out without Barbenheimer.
Viggo is such a pro. We're all still fangirling and he's furthering his career. Thanks for doing this, Viggo!
