The computer I have is a school computer so I can’t download stuff on it. The fact that this is possible on mobile is really helpful to me

This is honestly really helpful. I bought an AV to USB capture card, and it worked only the audio part, but it didn't show any video in any program that I tried it on. But then I just tested it on my phone using the app mentioned in this video, just to make sure, and everything worked! So it helped me figure that the problem is on my pc, not the actual capture card.

Canadian amazon has warehouse deals - basically returned stuff. I picked up a previous gen 10" Fire HD dirt cheap. Excellent RasPi monitir with a battery! (hacked in the Play Store,of course)

Using it to capture analog video from old camcorders is brilliant.

cool so it works , was planing to use it for my dslr to have a monitor , is cheaper to buy a hdmi portable monitor , since i alredy have phone and has battery , and sometimes you can get a old smart phone for free from some friends , or use your old one if is still working

If the laptop has an HDMI output, then yes, you can both mirror or extend the display to your phone, that's what I'm going at 2:42. It wouldn't be a great experience to use a cell phone or tablet as a monitor, (The framerate is a bit low for normal day to day use)but it can be done. I mainly suggest using the phone as a monitor as a band-aid solution to get back up and running for headless machines. If you have something like a Windows tablet that you want to double as a second laptop screen, it works out really well. In this video, at 6:10 I'm using an old Asus Transformer t100. I'm capturing the feed with OBS studio and I'm running it in Projector Mode. It basically turned this old crappy Windows tablet into a portable monitor.

Wow! Super Cool! Like the idea of being able to use with a Raspberry Pi in a pinch. The better camera for the RPis with camera interface slots, of course you know the RPi 4 has 2 of them, can be pricey but this way you get capture capabilities as well. Better portability as well. I have a 17" portable monitor I use with mi Pi 4 and Pi 400 and that sucker weighs a good 3.26 pounds not to mention having to lug around a power supply and a HDMI cable with a micro to mini HDMI adapter a lot of loose, smaller stuff to misplace or lose.

hi, well i was thinking about buying a capture card so i can make some gaming content my laptop is not powerfull enough to handle gameplay and recording at the same time so if i buy a capture card and then connect it to my phone as show in the video, can i get it like a gameplay recording?, will it be smooth?

Hi there. Thanks for sharing. I bough the same card you have here and the recommended apps to connect it to connect a digital camera and phone. So far I have tried 3 different phones + 3 different digital cameras from Nikon, Olympus and Canon and 4 different apps, 2 of which I had to pay for. None of the combinations will give a live view to the phone no matter what setting I choose. The strange thig is the card works if I connect it to a computer using an older Sony HDR CX-450 Handycam video camera with the same cables and capture card. I just call up something like MS Teams and check the settings and the video is working fine. Do you have any suggestions why I am getting no video ?.

HDMI transports both video and audio, and these capture devices should manage both video and audio, so I don't see why not.

Can I use fire stick tv?

I'm trying to stream my switch gameplay to my phone. I have an elgato game capture neo with an hdmi from the switch and an hdmi to a monitor. I'm just using a double USB-c to connect the capture card to my phone. The USB camera app is registering that it's connected to my capture card but no video output is coming through. What's my issue? Do I need the attachments shown in the video?

I use it o gain a very cheap screen for raspberry pi. It has hdmi output (and DSI and DPI and I2C) I used an old tablet with capture card as an hdmi display for Raspberry PI I ususally work over the web on it (its for octoprint on a 3d-printer) but sometimes it's nice to just walk around the print and have access and see on a screen what i'm doiung without opening a laptop or phone to setup same wifi then ssh. Octoprint also has web interface that i use it all the time. and even an internet client like obico that lets me access the web interface of the internet. I us all of these, but sometimes i walk near it, see something wrong and want to edit some settings quick. that tablet with hdmi capture card is very nice for this.

Your phone has to be capable of HDMI output, but if it can do it, you can use an adapter like this to do it. (Usage may vary by phone type). amzn.to/39OUrTd If you're not worried about recording input lag, I've recorded my phone's screen in OBS by setting up the Anydesk client on the phone, and doing a screen grab on my PC. I don't know if that will suit your needs, but I like to throw out options!

Great informative video thanks. Here is another reason to do this. I am video streaming, baseball games and a lot of people have gone to just putting a camera on top of the backstop. I don't like that it picks up too many conversations. I don't want to use mew and I like to follow the action and between innings zoom in on players. I tried looking into Wi-Fi cameras too expensive and found this video and ran with it. Now I can use my Sony handycam 1080 and control zooming in and out better than I could on my phone. Thanks. I try and get a picture of a setup next time I do the game probably next week

Not all adapters work with all phones/Android versions. My HDMI to USB-C capture adapter doesn't work with my Samsung S9+. Either USB Camera app doesn't support Android 10 or my capture adapter is not supported.
