Vietnamese Crab, Shrimp, Pork & Tomato Noodle Soup (Bun Rieu from Scratch)
A delicious and authentic Bún Riêu recipe, all from scratch, with added pork hocks, pork blood, and crab/shrimp meatballs. In this recipe, we are skipping the jarred or canned spiced crab and making it all with fresh crab and shrimp.

FINALLY someone who makes bun rieu from scratch!!! The other million videos on bun rieu uses the can/jarred sauces which have questionable ingredients. I make mine from scratch too, but always wanted to see how someone else does it too. Thank you!!
I didn't realize that you posted about bún riêu! I just did a video about it. And, I wish I had seen it before posting mine. I didn't know pork trotters ever went into bún riêu. Because I hadn't seen that before. I always associated them with bún bò Huế. Plus, you got a pretty good looking "crab cake" without using any pork too...which, I believe, is typically used as a binding agent for the crab meat and the minced shrimp. Very nice. You were very resourceful with the shrimp heads too.
The shrimp paste is a must it made such a difference! Some recipes had dry shrimp too
