As long as a country serves America's interests it would get donations (aka bribes known in other countries); the second it no longer does, into the trashbin it would go.....and that is a guaranty.

China was in turmoil when Japan was industrialising. Between 1966 and 1976, China underwent the cultural revolution where estimates of death reached some 40 million Chinese. Deng Xiao Ping took over in 1978 and that saw the beginning of China rise. Richard Nixon had visited China in 1972 and met with Mao Tse Tung. The US established relations with China not because they were kind hearted and wanted to help China. The Americans were in China because they were still fighting the Cold War with Russia and wanted the help of China to contain Russia. If you keep thinking the Americans were in Vietnam out of the pureness of their kind hearts, I would advise you to read history to get a proper perspective. In politics, countries do things out of necessities and expediencies, not out of goodwill or kindness.

@@sun1st China had wars with Vietnam from 1979-1989. China would crucify Vietnamese people if it suits China ie. Ming Dynasty and China's 1000 years domination. China's slate on VN is dirtier than USA. You can fool Westerners but not the Vietnamese people. We know China's old tricks, it's an old book. It's useless, even though it's desirable, to expect to have a strategic partnership between US and VN. So long as the Communist Party is the leader of VN politics, a close or strategic relationship between the two countries is a fervent wish, if not an illusion!

@@banluanvanhoabacky2977 You are right, China and Vietnam in their long history has had their wars but that didn't stop China from coming to Vietnam's aid when US invaded Vietnam. Throughout the centuries of war, nothing of the sort happened like the way the US had blanket bombed Vietnam. It is to Vietnam's credit and bravery that they stood strong and fought back the US. Beware of what US had done to many other countries of which I am sure you have eyes to witness. To the US, they think in terms of dispensability. If you think the US is a reliable ally, good luck to you and Vietnam. By the way, I'm ethically Chinese but not from China.

@@nhvu1 Of course the US didn't try to make you white, their objective was to bomb North Vietnam to smithereens or maybe you're too young to know that. The US befriending Vietnam today is because they want to contain China, not because they love Vietnam. The sooner you awake the better for Vietnam. I can appreciate your sentiments of distrust and disgust of China as a result of the wars fought between China and Vietnam going back to 221 BC. Depending on how you count the wars, between 221 BC and 998 AD, both countries fought some 4 wars. No war occurred between 998 AD until 1979. The last war fought was in 1979 was the due to Vietnam's invasion of Cambodia. Despite the wars, there was no genocide. Reflect with history in mind and not simply let emotions prevail.

@@pcsing2006 1979 to 1989 border wars check it. Wars in the 1400s to restore Vietnamese independence, check your history. No genocide only in China's history books. China prefers cultural genocide over physical genocide ie. Tibet, Xinjiang, etc. We prefer to die than be forced to be Chinese. Cambodia attacked first and we ended the killing fields, China promoted it.
