I remember playing this mission when I was little and never beating it, which makes this video really bizzare because I remember those tunnels being pitch black and having to use those lightsticks / flares to light my path to figure out where I need to go, until I ran out. Somehow the VC would always see me in the dark and shoot at me, or I would run into granade tripwire traps, yet I see none of this in here. Weird.

my grandpa served as a tunnel rat with the australian 5th airborne. he would never get over the fact that so many distractions existed in them. from bugs, punji sticks, grenades, trap doors, i have a poop fetish, bouncing betties, to hidden rooms, there was always something out to get him.

My friend who had a pc a bit earlier than me used to play this game, and didn't know about the flashlight, so he navigated the tunnels in pitch black. He was actually able to pass the first two tunnels with nothing but lightsticks and crawling sound. In the end he got stuck at the famous po tlong karai tunnel maze. After a while, we were able to discover the flashlight haha

the friend played like a real tunnel rat: using flashlight might help you see, but it gives your position away, that's why the tunnel rats somehow managed to traverse those tunnel without one in pitch darkness.

I remember playing this as a kid, deleted the game 5 times, reinstalled it again after few days each time. I was always stucked at this missions, because everything was so dark, After flares, I used gunshots to light my path. Out of ammo, out of flares, I was so pissed off that I slammed my keyboard with a fist. My fist somehow hit the L key and light went on, I was just silent in disbelief....

In Vietnam, the US Army trained its soldiers to not fire seven rounds from their pistols when entering the rat tunnels because the Viet Cong knew how many rounds each pistol clip carried and when you were out of ammo and had to reload, making you vulnerable. Of course, the Viet Cong were far from the only danger that GIs faced in the tunnels, they also had to watch out for booby traps, venomous snakes and insects and sometimes the Viet Cong flooded their tunnels, and GIs could drown.

Я даже на бумаге записывал: направо, направо, налево... Когда прекращался шум шагов, я понимал что в тупике))) Использовал вспышку от выстрела для подсветки. Неоновых шашек всего было несколько штук, экономил. Как я тогда мучился) Сколько лет прошло, а я всё помню, а всё почему? Потому как долго мучался!

Я помню прицел использовал - когда близко к стене подходишь, он исчезает. Так можно было понять что ты уперся в стену, потом поворачиваешь сначала налево, если прицел не появился - значит там тоже стена и надо направо поворачивать )

And just think, since theres no way to silence a gun in real life the real tunnel rats had to use their knife or alert the entire tunnel they're there. Probably the scariest job in Vietnam.

Sassy, they had suppressed M1911s in WW2, so they had them in Vietnam I'm sure. Now of course they aren't completely silent but in a tunnel system I bet it was effective. You are still a cool Sasquatch!

@@fireworksfanatics2777 I suspect that the only thing the suppressor could help in these tunnels with is so that the shooter doesn't go deaf after a few shots, the sound will travel all across the tunnel regardless

I remember playing this mission when I was little and never beating it, which makes this video really bizzare because I remember those tunnels being pitch black and having to use those lightsticks / flares to light my path to figure out where I need to go, until I ran out. Somehow the VC would always see me in the dark and shoot at me, or I would run into granade tripwire traps, yet I see none of this in here. Weird.

Same for me, it took me 2 weeks to beat the map, I had to memories and draw the map on paper to beat this level!
my grandpa served as a tunnel rat with the australian 5th airborne. he would never get over the fact that so many distractions existed in them. from bugs, punji sticks, grenades, trap doors, i have a poop fetish, bouncing betties, to hidden rooms, there was always something out to get him.

My friend who had a pc a bit earlier than me used to play this game, and didn't know about the flashlight, so he navigated the tunnels in pitch black. He was actually able to pass the first two tunnels with nothing but lightsticks and crawling sound. In the end he got stuck at the famous po tlong karai tunnel maze. After a while, we were able to discover the flashlight haha

the friend played like a real tunnel rat: using flashlight might help you see, but it gives your position away, that's why the tunnel rats somehow managed to traverse those tunnel without one in pitch darkness.

This game always scared the shit outta me. It would be dead silent, then an ambush outta nowhere. Not to mention how creepy the VC animations were and how they moved.
Imagine being a real tunnel rat. Pure darkness, you trudge along, until you can smell the enemy, hear his faint breath. Then a violent struggle occurs, the smells and sounds of death filling the tight spaces

I remember playing this as a kid, deleted the game 5 times, reinstalled it again after few days each time. I was always stucked at this missions, because everything was so dark, After flares, I used gunshots to light my path. Out of ammo, out of flares, I was so pissed off that I slammed my keyboard with a fist. My fist somehow hit the L key and light went on, I was just silent in disbelief....

I remember Vietcong, I finished it, including Vietcong2. In the past they were wonderful and for those who remember, something that was wonderful was the background music, all very famous 60s/70s rock pieces. 21 years have passed......:-(

I don't remember the tunnels being this bright as a kid, even with the flashlight on.
In Vietnam, the US Army trained its soldiers to not fire seven rounds from their pistols when entering the rat tunnels because the Viet Cong knew how many rounds each pistol clip carried and when you were out of ammo and had to reload, making you vulnerable. Of course, the Viet Cong were far from the only danger that GIs faced in the tunnels, they also had to watch out for booby traps, venomous snakes and insects and sometimes the Viet Cong flooded their tunnels, and GIs could drown.

Я даже на бумаге записывал: направо, направо, налево... Когда прекращался шум шагов, я понимал что в тупике))) Использовал вспышку от выстрела для подсветки. Неоновых шашек всего было несколько штук, экономил. Как я тогда мучился) Сколько лет прошло, а я всё помню, а всё почему? Потому как долго мучался!

Я помню прицел использовал - когда близко к стене подходишь, он исчезает. Так можно было понять что ты уперся в стену, потом поворачиваешь сначала налево, если прицел не появился - значит там тоже стена и надо направо поворачивать )

It was a funny game for online :) When you can pull out a grenade ring and put a grenade back in your pocket. :) And then just run for your enemy for Glory of Ho Shi Minh :)

And just think, since theres no way to silence a gun in real life the real tunnel rats had to use their knife or alert the entire tunnel they're there. Probably the scariest job in Vietnam.
