I wanna agree, but she was allowed to get away with too much that was just plain horrible, with virtually no repercussions. Not that I would have preferred her apparently scrapped fate with an existing unused theme resulting in her death, mind, but she shoulda faced SOMETHING resembling punishment along with fulfilling her duties as guardian of Alexandria. Not the least of which for me include giving Freya a chance to surpass her. :V

And yet she was poorly written and committed war crimes, the fact that she doesn't at least wonder why her queen (who was perfectly peaceful and rational up until a short time after the death of her husband) suddenly starts acting like a warmongering lunatic and ordering genocides left and right, until too little, too late, does not speak well to Beatrix as an individual. Especially since Garnet tried to talk to her about it before but Beatrix wouldn't listen.

@@Zelink108 I too felt it was questionable how she didn't stop to think what she did and what she witnessed thought it was senseless and crazy. A flaw in the writing definitely.

Stop acting like Beatrix is such a “great character” she is a Mary Sue war criminal with a robotic dual personality who switches based on when the plot demands it. She is poorly written.

It isn't, though, as good of a story as that is. The katakana is clearly "Roozu", and Japanese heavily favors spelling over sounds (ex. Hades is ハーデス (Haadesu) instead of Heedesu, and Cerberus is ケルベロス (Keruberosu) instead of Saabaaresu). Additionally, Me would just be "Mii," not "Mei" as it's written here. There's no chance that it was supposed to be translated as "Loss of Me."

0:10 Alexandrian Soldier "Welcome back, General." Beatrix "How is Her Majesty?" Alexandrian Soldier "She has eagerly awaited your return." "I am certain she will shower you with praise for our victory." "Your supremacy is without question now. Steiner and his Knights of Pluto are nothing compared to you!" This soldier embodies just how dumb Sakaguchi's written scenarios are. What, someone had questioned the "superiority" of Beatrix? And isn't Steiner and his pack of Pluto Knights just a bunch of incompetent goofball punks? What is even the comparison between them? (According to the Ultimania, Steiner was the reason for Beatrix losing her eye in a duel they had, though it was an accident, but this is never really alluded to in the actual plot) What kind of army is this, where the rank and file just say such crap in the face of the general without asking? Beatrix "That is enough!" Alexandrian Soldier "Forgive me, General." Beatrix "Tell Her Majesty that I will report to her shortly." [The Alexandrian Soldier salutes and walks off the screen] Beatrix "That was ridiculous..." …And here we go with what I've referring to regarding Beatrix these past few music themes: Her completely sudden, out of nowhere moral conflict. You can not do this Sakaguchi. You cannot have a character- who prior to this point has been portrayed as nothing but a cold heartless warmonger responsible for war crimes and the deaths of many innocents with no hint of hesitation and regret in her actions and absolutely ZERO implications saying otherwise (she even LAUGHED a few times, as I have pointed out throughout the previous comments), just suddenly be conflicted and remorseful right out of nowhere. This whole scene is a complete asspull, and even then, she seems less anguished over the atrocities themselves happening in the first place, and more that she is irritated that it wasn't her herself that was doing them, as we will see in the next line. Beatrix "My troops alone would've been more than enough to take Cleyra." "Why does the queen insist on using black mages and eidolons?" "I didn't train all these years so I could take a backseat to anyone..." See? She seems more "concerned" that her soldiers and herself were not the ones solely doing the attacks rather than the whole thing even happening to begin with. If this was the writers attempts at making her "sympathetic and actually a good person", then they failed hard. She isn't feeling remorse, she's mad that she couldn't be the one to take Cleyra herself. Also, she didn't even raise any objections to the use of the Black Mages back then in Burmecia when she was in the palace with Kuja and Brahne when she could and should have said so, at any point. (And there apparently weren't even any Alexandrian soldiers used for Burmecia- as little sense as that makes, just Black Mages. Yet, Alexandrian troops were used for Cleyra, so why is she even whining about this now, and not before where it would at least make more sense?) And at what point during those invasions was she even "taking a backseat"? (She was with the queen at the palace in Burmecia leading the troops, same as in Cleyra where she was also the one that stole the Desert Jewel from the harp in the Cathedral) She was pretty much in charge of it both times. Alexandrian Soldier "This way! Hurry up!" "You three, get on the telepod and go to Alexandria immediately." [Three black mages walk down the stairs, enter the barrel-like telepods, and turn into the balls of light, flying away] Beatrix "...There's no difference between them and me. We're all just blindly following orders. My heart and my will mean nothing..." First off: Again, in your previous dialogue you seemed to be more irritated that you weren't doing the sacking of Cleyra all yourself. And secondly: You had expressed zero issues about following orders back in Burmecia when Brahne was right there to question. But keep spouting that forced half-assed philosophy, you inconsistently written loon. The fact that she doesn't at least wonder why her queen (who was perfectly peaceful and rational up until a short time after the death of her husband) suddenly starts acting like a warmongering lunatic and ordering genocides left and right, until too little, too late, does not speak well to Beatrix as an individual. Especially since Garnet tried to talk to her about it before but Beatrix wouldn't listen. (As Garnet said in Lindblum towards Cid) Beatrix is just suddenly morally conflicted because the writers said so. Beatrix "Maybe Steiner was right..." Uh, did we miss a scene? What does Beatrix mean by "Maybe Steiner was right"? Steiner never said anything to Beatrix in the prologue that indicates what she means here. Heck, they barely even interacted, nor did Steiner have any other scene with Beatrix afterward. (As he has been away from the castle this whole time, and we didn't even see Beatrix talk to Steiner when he was being held in that cage with Marcus) Either the screenwriter screwed up again, or this was just a big mistranslation and she was supposed to say "Maybe Garnet was right" which would make more sense, since Garnet was the one who suspected and tried to warn everyone in the castle about Brahne's insanity. (Which even Beatrix didn't believe for some dumb reason, which just makes her look worse) Though I don't see how the translators could make such a simple name mix-up.

I'm just gonna... make a single point and remind you that the Knights of Pluto USED to be a much more prestigious order of knights in Alexandrian history, if you ever bothered to read stuff about them among people and the statues. Steiner already fought in a war for Alexandria...
