Video Review: Magellan eXplorist 510 GPS Receiver
The Magellan eXplorist 510 GPS is a great receiver for whatever takes you out into the backcountry. Check out our written review for more details. The screen shots in the review show details that the video camera didn't pick up. The review can be found at www.OceanMountainSky.com

Glad you found it useful. Videos are certainly easier than reading a manual. Hope you found our written review just as helpful.
Excellent presentation, Have search a long time for this style of info,,, Well done and greatly appreciated, from Lismore NSW Australia.
Best vid on the 510 on KZread. Good job.
Glad you found it useful. There is more information in our written review too on OceanMountainSky. Thanks for the comment.
@dougehall Yes you can enter in destination coordinates. The easiest way for me is, starting from the home/map page, go to the Main Menu --->Waypoints ---> Options (in the lower right corner) ---> Add Waypoint- --> Coordinates --->Then press the box with the coordinates and you can edit it them from there.
I just bought one of these and found your video helpful. Off to OMS for further info. THANKS!
The center button is the best feature!! BOXES IN THE WOODS!!! :)
Thanks for the in-depth information..
The domain works fine for me. Did you use the w w w in front? That does make a difference in this case.
I do have a question tho. Once you start a track - how do you stop it once you're done? The start up manual for a three of the 510, 610 and 710 says :lower left menu then it tells you to hit "stop track but the 510 does not have a "stop track" in that menu. It has a "save" is that the same thing? Thanks
How can I find the report about the menu in your website you spoke about? The website doesnt have a searchbar :(
Hey I've got a question. Every time I turn my 510 on it says I have low memory on the Magellan/SD card., but the card is empty. If I clear the internal memory will that delete my map ? Thanks
Had problem with Magellan 510 gps not turning off when the power is on/ not open when the power is on. What display on the screen is usb cable connect to computer and it is not not opening. please advice how i can fix this problem. thank you.
How are the screens outside in the sun?
Does it do WhereIGo caches?
Hey oceanmountainsky, have been considering magellan 310/510 and garmin etrex20/62s, 62s is a bit pricey, extre20 i hear has slow rendering. this one looks qual and I seem to be liking this. I am upgrading from 60csx. My first gps ever was magellan and Iit was quite helpful. garmin i may abandon (have ahd three and not about that interface).
i have a magellan explorist 510 i brough brand new lithium batteries put them in fullycharged set the setting to lithium.two minutes it went down to 1 bar.please help me asap
KEY QUESTIONSL basemap and/or city/topo are those detailed? how detailed are the maps. I will be using bike nav so need all roads (and like complete topos). RENDERINGL how fast does the map render? has to be fast. bollocks I have weird reasons (1st gps magellan) for 510 and other reasons for garmin 62s or some other device. can't decide, meh. maybe won't upgrade dang.
I cannot find how to enter destination coordinates. That would seem to be the simplest and most likely thing someone would want to do. But the 510 manual does not mention how to do it. Nor does this video. Does anyone know how to enter destination latitude and longitude?
What do you do when your device will not run on batteries but will run off computer power source?
The screens are useable in the sun but not while wearing polarized sunglasses. I didn't leave it out with the sun directly hitting the screen as it isn't good for any electronics so I can't comment on extended use in the sun.
None of these videos show how the data input menu works. I want to know how easy it is to input waypoints or comments for geocaching
