What a really cool enigma he is. I mean in an interview you can tell that Michael Stipe or Morrissey are uncomfortable and that kind of drives them to write those lyrics where as this guy seems at ease until he gets behind a microphone. This isn't a criticism at all it should be said explicitly and I don't hold him with any suspicion. What a band and what a lyricist...and yes they are easily as good as Arcade Fire atm although we still don't hear them anywhere near as much.

my own personal taste, but I think both Boxer and High Violet are better than anything Arcade fire has done. From early reviews, the new album Trouble Will find Me, is their best yet. That's saying a lot since High Violet was outstanding.

Haha funny how something I wrote two years ago can come back and bite me on the arse!! I think they stand toe to toe. The National haven't really got an LP as good as Funeral have they? I love them both very much though. I think The National might well have album of the year this year over an Arcade Fire effort by a clear stretch. I almost can't see Arcade Fire bettering them at this moment in time.

I know that feel, bro. Finding out that some of the best bands are lefties puts a downer on my day, though it doesn't stop me enjoying their music.

Also the problem with Arcade Fire, even though I love their music, is that they are, in private, arrogant fuckers. Very unsympathetic snobs. But if you listen to Matt or read the national interviews and see their live shows you just get that they are down-to-earth, they are human not above us and also with those mr.november acts where Matt goes through the audience and connects with them it's just so sympathetic. You've got to love them
