This should still happen, regardless of other statutes. You can murder, maim, manslaughter, all while in a car. The instrument doesn't matter, the actions do. 5 years mandatory minimum on wreckless fleeing and these chases would be reduced. You get less time for pot possession, it would incentivise pulling over if you're not stupid.

@Derek Claycomb The police version of a vehicle is usually ordered with better suspension than the regular version of that same vehicle along with some decent tires. There's nothing magic about their handling. Plenty of other regular cars will out handle a police car, especially those heavy SUVs they use so much now.

I don't know about the life period part since that's pretty much murder 2/manslaughter, but I agree with the 5 to 10 year minimum if you're caught driving like this despite being told by police to stop. And yes, permenant loss of license. Caught again, the minimum is doubled.

The cynical way in which this guy tried to force the police car into the back of another vehicle is chilling and thankfully the officer was completely in charge of his vehicle and showed what a top class driver he is.

I like the fact that the Police Officer did not close in on him too quickly. He gave him room to maneuver to an exit where the chase ended with fewer people hurt. On the highway,the end results would have been much worse at higher speeds.

There were plenty of opportunities where the interstate was wide open, no other cars around. Put those damn push bars to work! Hit that car from behind and make him spin out. He wouldn't have hurt nobody, single car crash, himself. Hitting one person is unacceptable when there was opportunity to take him out.

@@renegade7370 I know; there is a video of it. The suspect flipped, was ejected and rolled over by his truck and killed. The officers car used the bottom of the truck as a ramp and launched into the sky, as high as a street light. The dashcam video was spectacular! The officer was not seriously injured.

The issue isn't figuring out what trick the officer should use to end the chase. The issue is the speeds at which they are going. And you never mentioned whether you care about the officer's safety as well.

Personally I think there should be a law that says if you run, anything that happens in the chase will be charged as if you intended it. If someone dies then murder 1. If you wreck into another vehicle, felony vandalism and assault with a deadly weapon. Maybe after enough people go to jail for a very long time jerks like this might think twice.

For unstance, the USSC has decided that capital punishment on felony murder perpetrators is an imperfect and excessive application of justice. But criminals don't look for cable TV in prison. Criminals who do this stuff don't think about how long they'll spend in jail for, before calculaying the odds of being caught. They just do it.

these chases should be shown in drivers education courses to show the importance paying attention as a driver and getting out of the way when you hear a siren

Dunno about demonstrated "Skills" when all we saw was a well trained officer displaying some professional restraint, its a crying shame more officers don't do the same. Yes there's always an exception but 99/100 pursuits I've seen the pursuing officer very rarely follows their training protocols and does things by the book, the officer in this video however is the shining example of what happens when strict police pursuit guidelines are followed correctly.

I don't know if you're aware of this but the distance the sound from the siren travels in front of the vehicle has much shorter than the sound dissipating from the sides and the rear. It has to do with compression of the air in front of the car. You may only be able to hear the siren standing standing outside on a sidewalk a couple 100' feet in front of a speeding police car Combined with the sound proofing of modern cars you won't really hear the siren until the cop is pretty close behind and at that point in time Any harsh Or unpredictable reaction can cause a serious accident. It's long story short you'll see the lights long before you ever hear the siren. To put that in perspective a car traveling at a 100 miles per hour cover an entire football field in about 2 seconds for a little less.

@@brandonbld17 Yeah I'm aware of the sound wave compression thing, that's called the Doppler effect. That's how Police Radar works. It still doesn't excuse drivers doping off with 10 Police cars with lights and sirens on behind them from not pulling over.

@@bunsonhoneydew9099 There's multiple cop cars so people have lights approaching in more than one lane, with the lead one swerving across lanes. Many drivers probably figure the safest thing to do is stay in their lane and not add to the chaos.

You can definitely tell VERY FEW people ever look in their rear view mirror...

In the defensive driving course that I took years ago, before I got my Class A license, we were taught to look at one of the mirrors every 5 seconds. Left side, road, center, road, right side, road and so on. In the semi, it was left, road, right, road, keeping your head moving all the time. Very few people know how to do it.

Secure your K9 officer. K9 didn't know where handler was for a sec.

He had him off leash to scent out/ chase the moron. They don't use retractable leashes.......might as well as a. muzzle and tennis shoes to the dog...ineffective in a seizure.🤣

Mandatory castrations for these kinds of criminals would be a huge deterrent. Plus they wouldn’t be bringing more problems into society and they would have nothing to play with in prison.

Mandatory Castration for criminals simply means carjackers will kill the victim, home invaders must kill all occupants, no witnesses are allowed to live, etcetera. For instance, if you raise the penalty for shoplifting to be mandatory death sentence, sure, that stops many from shoplifting. But it will also mean the hardcore shoplifters will always shoot first to kill the store staff and any customer witnesses as the penalty is already maxxed.

Back in the mid 60s my wife and I were on the 405 in Cali and a Corvette came flying by us and I said it looked like he was being chased. The guy tried to take an off ramp but was going way too fast, went airborne and all we could see was a cloud of dust and then we saw the police cars coming up behind us. That was really crazy!

A Hittman has a boring life ?

My Son and I was just on this stretch of highway back in October. From Indiana. We were picking up a car he purchased from 440Auto. Great people by the way. I know we saw over a couple dozen Ohio State Troopers on our way thru there. I've seen other videos and them boys know how to drive. Like it should be done, because I really hate seeing a convict get away because an officer is scared of speed. Great Job Ohio...

Why so overdramatic mate, just because a road is covered in water and the wipers are on doesn't automatically make it a near impossibility to drive at high speed without crashing, especially if only driving in a straight line on a 4 lane wide freeway! You may not realise this but many of the fancy looking tread patterns you see on quality tires are designed to grip and disperse standing water and some of the high end premium brands like Pirelli and Continental are capable of the identical stopping distance in the wet as the cheaper brand tires can in the dry! Next time you see a new Porsche BMW Mercedes Benz Audi etc, check out the tires that are fitted as standard and then compare the tread pattern to your Dodge Caravan tires 😆

@@CharizardLv95 There's too many variables to make a claim like that. What if the officer had backed off 5 miles ago, would he still have shot off the highway at that rate of speed? Maybe he would've, but then again maybe he would've recognized that the police officer had been out of sight for a bit and would've tried to drive better to not attract the attention of other cops that might not know he was in a pursuit. You can't say he would've crashed for certain even if the policeman backed off when they were still near Columbus. You also can't say for certain that he wouldn't have crashed. To me, it seems more likely that if the police car is still in sight, they will still be in pursuit mode. If I was running from the police that would surely be my logic. Police in sight = go faster, police out of sight = calm down and act normal. Could've just laid back miles ago and put a heli on him and follow him to his destination and make the arrest there. Then again, maybe it was inevitable.
