Hi! I have been working in vr on and off for the past month. (since I got my quest 3) though I've only edited a video in it once. Here are a few tips. 1. Instead of moving the screen closer to you, make it bigger, this means it will cover more space and get that clearer image, while not making you go cross-eyed. It should be much easier on your eyes. 2. The quest 3 as you said is super uncomfortable. The most comfortable strap by far is from bobo vr, and you can get batteries for it as well to extend battery life. 3. You had issues with extra monitors, obviously you are going to be faster with a more familiar setup. you can still use the extra monitors for e-mails, music, or maybe wherever you are uploading to so you can just drag the files over. Whatever works best for you. Personally, I work with 4 monitors so when I'm on my home setup with 1 monitor, it is totally worth it to me to throw on the headset whenever I have any work to do. I hope this helps, and I will definitely be watching for your future videos on this!

Another great video Ben! Well done. always informative, interesting & watchable. Not a wasted second (hope you found the bathroom!) ;o) I'm only just considering VR headset as I'm about to invest in a load of kit and insta 360 is on the wishlist. I was once extremely keen to get into 3D Worlds, like Second Life (where I was something of an addict for a long time) However, I've started to look at the insta 360 series and am very excited by that and can't wait to get one - so I have been wondering about using a VR headset for editing hyperlapses - not so much to build a virtual editing studio hanging in space, but to preview the 360 footage and pick my view angles/framing as I go along...can't quite wrap my head around how that might work here....I guess I am sort of thinking I'd like to be able to change my view angle of the insta 360 video simply by moving my head. (sorry, trying to work something out here, bear with me, thinking on the fly) I have to think about this, because there is this dichotomy of editing an object in a 3D World (such as, say a cube you're turning & stretching) where you want control of the Object AND your view of it - so you can look under the thing or see it from above or one side while you stretch that face...and, effectively, with hyperlapse - you're INSIDE a virtual view-sphere. (so to speak) I think I need to reflect on what I want here.... perhaps phase one is to edit the camera reels for view angle, THEN edit the video sequences like a normal editor (even if it is hanging in 3D space for you) I guess with VR headset, You're kind of creating a work environment like an Astronaut who doesn't put his tools down on a bench, but leaves them floating. I like that idea of virtual screens. I',m very used to leaving things hanging in mid air in SL, so I reckon I'd adapt readily to that concept, but I suspect they've not designed a video editor that takes advantage of this technology to its fullest extent. ... like yes 'tear-of-tabbies' for your tools, separate virtual screen for the playback and another for a nice LONG editing timeline and another for your tools and several with your various clips ready to drop into your timeline as if they were DVD's on your shelf.... There are a few things I thought I'd mention to you. One is the 3D connexion Space Mouse (or Space Navigator) it is a highly intuitive 6 axis 'joystick' that I can't live without for navigating & editing inside Virtual Worlds It is also useful, of course, for many other systems, especially 3D CAD/CAM software, but one place I love it is in Google Earth as I can fly around like my own personal easy-nav UFO, rather than my brain having to process up/down left/right by using arrow keys so it is, as I said, highly intuitive and natural to use. Wait... yeah... I got it!.... your view is your head... but the object you move with the joystick ... (kind of like I use the joystick in SL to control my view while I use the normal mouse to manipulate the object I am editing). Of course, I am also looking forward to the Apple Vision Pro coming out soon, so I am wondering if it's higher definition might be a better alternative to the Quest headset. (albeit pricey). I can't wait to combine insta 360 footage with VR goggles and the space mouse AND virtual worlds too. The other direction I was wondering about trying to go would be to create artificial 'props' & 'sets' in a 3D World/Editor and blend those with Real World clips (say, for example, to simulate mountains in the distance or perhaps floating 3D text titles or special effects. I've used the technique of green screen in Second Life - and I've seen examples of Augmented Reality that used Second Life to generate scenes. (Sorry, I keep mentioning Second Life, but it just happens to be one I know - there's no reason not to use another 3D editor) I mean, can you imagine having a UFO flying around, or SL Avatars wandering about Edinburgh, or other dreamscapes blended with your real video footage? The possibilities are outrageous. Hey - you could hang 'virtual' signs to help you find the bathroom within your Alpine virtual 'set'. :o) or simply put nice signage in an estate agent's tour.... perhaps switch to rooms with or without furniture - or virtual furniture the viewer could select themselves. I did once get involved in an early project where potential house purchasers were given access to 3D models of their new homes in SL so they could mess with colour schemes, etc and, effectively, customise their houses before they were even built in the real world. Another thing I was wondering if it would be possible to record in a virtual World in the same fashion as the insta pro works.... The only way I could figure it would be to actually create a primitive object and sit 2 avatars on it facing opposite directions and record the view of both - with each logged into two different computers (or run 2 instances of SL - which is easy - IF your computer doesn't melt) , but only one avatar acting as the 'pilot' to move both avatars around the 3D virtual world and record both screens and see if it is possible to shove the results into the insta editor and combine them into useable footage similar to what it produces from its own insta 360 camera. Sorry, I am waffling away here - (I don't have anyone to play with today ;o) but the insta 360 has me all excited and my brain is spinning in all kinds of directions here. I've been longing for this technology for 50 years, since I saw the first 3D art that, I think, took several days to render on a Kray II at a cost of something like two million dollars. With the Apple Vison Pro and the M3 chip coming and the insta 360 I'm all fired up. oh... Wow! what about a multi-user editing studio where people could work as a production team? .... I think I might need to go and change my pants. oh yes.... I just found "immersed"

Watching Ben's edit a video about VR inside VR (Quest 3, no less!) is like diving into a modern-day 'chicken and egg' conundrum. It's a fascinating loop of reality and virtuality feeding into each other. This video is not just about experiencing VR; it's a layered journey where the process of creating the content becomes an integral part of the content itself. It's meta upon meta, a digital inception that blurs the lines between the creator, the creation, and the medium. Truly a mind-bending illustration of how technology is redefining the boundaries of our experiences and storytelling!

@@BenClaremont yes, thats a benefit of the standalone-Headsets.. i tried to edit video a year ago with my old computer... no problem performance-wise with the Quest2/Pico4 --> the VR-"Voodoo" was done by the headset, the pc only did his "normal" thing but with the reverb G2: the pc also head to do the "VR-Voodoo" and combined with video editing this was too much, lot of stutter - not usable.. with my new computer - 5950x + RTX 4080 - its now also possible with headset without standalone but use the Quest3 anyway.. not for video-editing, its only my hobby.. but for doing homeoffice in my real job the quest3 is not able to do it better or even replace a 4k or 3440x1440 screen in terms of quality.. I: am sorry, I don't care how good Immersed program is, but I will still do my work without wearing a VR headset. There is less eye strain looking at a nice large 40-50 inch HD display, than looking at something virtual through VR lenses. Plus we have to keep on charging up the Quest 3 all the time to do business work. Also comfort level wearing something on your head all the time. No thanks to doing work through any AR/VR Headset. Maybe you can do it, but I cannot. I only use VR for entertainment and gaming and only for an hour or two. Note: I have done many hours/years doing gaming in VR and has worked great for me and enjoy the immerse feeling of being in the games. But to carry this same thing into doing business work is a bit too much for me. Bye!!
