. . . Or down the hillside!
So does the city inspector still have a job? The soil technician that passed the compaction tests? Engineering that came up with the project and what needed to be done before inspections? Always amazes me they need to take a hill/mountain that’s been there for hundreds if not thousands of years through all the weather and seasons. Cut it all back and down, bring in fill and re compact it to build houses instead of just cutting in a road leaving the native alone and just drive in pier posts for those homes on hillsides.
Let's build on a hillside, the views will be great!
Unbelievable - but i just watched it happen. Why are people standing around, I'd not go near that 'hill'.
All those houses along that ridge best be evacuated and written off. I would not even want to own a house on the opposite side of the street.
It's either the worst look ever for State geologists, or their "I told you so" moment; will be interesting to see who owns this debacle.

Ya, it's hard to evaluate when the forces of a sinking foundation are so intense on the house. The land wasn't reinforced with concrete, whether with strauss pile or bored pile, and there should be a proper retaining wall on the outside around back perimeter, no wonder it failed to support the house on top of it, and seeing the concrete base seems like there are no steel bars that hold and reinforced it, the base just cracked apart easily, I feel sorry for the owner
The house value significantly decreased in this neighborhood. It is not safe to live here on this hill.
You see it time and time again. Houses and businesses built on land fill ,on hills or cliffs that in time will fail. You have to stabilize, build a wall and anchor it into the bedrock. Same with dwellings, have to anchor them into several feet with steel and concrete. Also drainage has to be addressed. Another thing is to test the land you're building on.
Building home on cliff sides just asking for it eventually the ground does this.
Quality...

Shame on builders for putting houses on the side of those Draper hills. Shame on realtors for not adequately disclosing to home buyers that the construction was at risk. But as bad as this is in Draper, has anyone been paying attention to the risky house construction between Bountiful and SLC? I know it’s been a few years since the last lahar-like mud flow that buried art of Bountiful in the past. I was shocked to drive past that area for the first time in nearly 2 decades and see all those houses just waiting for the next slide.
It's so crazy that people are building up there on Suncrest still. That area is dangerous for homes. It's a cool area, but I would never buy a home up there
And now the builder and engineers will file bankruptcy and leave all those poor homeowners hanging.
