Thanks for sharing this informative video. The immunoglobulin superfamily (IgSF) is a large group of transmembrane glycoproteins with multiple extracellular disulfide bonded loops. These regions are homologous to ones in immunoglobulin molecules. IgSF molecules are 70-110 amino acids and associate with their ligands in a Ca2+-independent manor. There are two major types of IgSF: the C1-type is responsible for antigen recognition and the C2-type is responsible for non-antigen specific functions such as cell adhesion. Members of the latter type have a variable number of extracellular Ig-like domains with conserved cysteine residues which form intra-chain disulfide bonds to stabilize the β-sheets of the tertiary structure. Five members of the C2-type of IgSF mediate leukocyte adhesion and these are expressed on endothelium: ICAM-1 (CD54), ICAM-2(CD 102), VCAM-1 (CD106), PECAM (CD31), and MadCAM-1. -Creative BioMart

Thank you for the explanation. I have CVID and I’m on IVIG via infusion through a central line every 28 days (occasionally is 5 weeks if it falls on a holiday. My IGG is low as well as must of the subclasses. My hematologist said I have a more severe form of CVID apparently which is why I still get bad pneumonia’s and sepsis even while on IVIG but it has reduced the number of pneumonia’s I’ve had. If I can get to below once per year I would be happy. Have had it twice this year and both were pretty bad requiring IV antibiotics to treat and one took a total of 4 (1 oral and 3 others were IV form and a week hospitalized, again).
