Nice Duster. I owned 5 different ones, 3 being '71 Duster 340's/H-code, 2 of those being 4spd/D21 cars. This care is way way to high up in the rear end for decent handling, keeping it strait, and getting some traction from weight transfer. I had Super Stock springs on one of mine, and at first it stood up like this. I never let it out of the driveway like that, knowing I was going to have serious traction issues and it was going to handle like shite being up on top of the springs like that. I pulled the first full length leaf just below the main one with the spring eyes. Then I rotated the front spring mount to further lower, then I ran a small spacer block between axle and leaf pack. This car is further making the stinkbug effect worse by way to tall of a tire. I'd knock 3 to 4 inches or more outta the rear tire diameter, and pull the other tricks. Then I recall the Direct Connection tall pinion snubber was way to tall for mine, once I had the 28" tires tucked up in. Had to put a tall bumper from slapper bars onto my pinion. Then I ran .....oh I forget 1/2" to 1" of clearance. Luckily the leaf pack was still so stiff the car didn't need much up travel, or have much extension. But it was down in the leaf pack, the leafs only had a small arch to them. This car looks alot like a B5 car I had. Get that rear end down like 8 to 10 inches, then do a burn out. That car will bite then. Get the front end up maybe an inch or two. You could see how topsy turvy up on its tippy toes in the rear this car is in this clip. Get rid of all that ridiculous, then you'll be able to pull the trigger and stay much more strait, hookin and movin. The car I had setup pretty well I'd launch letting the clutch go at 4500 rpm, she'd hike the front end and push the tires down hard from the pinion snubber, and I recall it would be hooking well, even though I was leaving black tracks into like 3rd gear or 4th I forget. Was running 4.30's. Had tried 4.88 and 56's and 3.91's, but with tire diameter and the 30's were perfect for the .509 cam I had and trap speeds of 112 to 115 going through the traps at 6500 rpm. .........Man this brings back alot of memories of years ago. Had some Challengers too, way back when. Been without a muscle car for quite a few years now. Thinking atleast one more might be fun before I'm just not up to the wrenching fun anymore.........This car sounds healthy as could be though. I'm guessing that's a very large solid lifter cam, with alot of duration from the idle, and taking even longer than mine did to warm up and clean up the revs and get snappy. Mine was a street/strip car, and I had it hookin so well that it would murder 99% of big block GM's I lined up against at the Saturday night drag spot outside of town.

Im guessing a small block mopar, 340, like the decal says. This is why I cant enjoy my Mustang Coyote, I think my old 340 Duster sounded way better. BUT the Mustang is super fast. Luv the sound of the ohv engines more than the ohc. Thanks for sharing sir! (12 years ago)

@@johndeannuntis9291 i had a 400cc bike that turned low 13s. A kz 1000 was a low 12 bike. If you had an 11 second car you would have beat the kz. The first consistent 11 second bike was the xs1100 yamaha, then followed by the cbx honda. I dont care about going fast. Ive flown on the concorde and had a fast twin engine boat. Going fast on two wheels is a little risky when you have kids.

That thing doesn't have any weight transfer. I know SS springs can have them up tall, but this is way to extreme. Look at how much arch there is, and how those tires are to tall to even fit up in the wheel well even if it was lower. This is like watching a jacked up V8 mini truck trying to hook up. You see this one bouncing at the top of the springs that are already fully extended. Again, smaller diameter tires, 10-12" or so wide. Or if backside of tubs are moved over against the frame then wider yet. If I recall I also took the clamps off the rear part of the springs, and friends would say the rear of the spring pack would fan out, tires would wrinkle and clearly get slammed/pushed down hard, and they'd often say if I didn't actually get a front tire off the ground it was as close as you get. I seem to recall on mine, for about a week after getting the springs set up right, it was just a touch to much arch still in the springs, which were fresh. And I was into bodybuilding at the time, so I took a bunch of my steel weight lifting plates and put about 400 to 500 pounds in the trunk and just let it compress for a bunch of days. That all did the trick. Had to run the very stiff DC "Race" pressure plate with the street disc to not have any clutch slippage cuzz I had the car hookin so well, again even though I was laying rubber a long distance in a launch. ............Dig this car here, but man I could get that car to hook and launch vastly better than it does here, even on the street.
