Moving the 596HP 408 Stroker - Open Headers - CUDA [Ric0000 Archive]
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
After reading comments on last weeks walk around of the 1974 Plymouth Cuda, I decided to dig through the Ric0000 archives and find the original data file for when we made the promo years ago. I pieced this together quick, cut out the moving the camera around and left in what I had of the car running. I hope you enjoy!
There are too many mods to list here, but to give just a taste of what this car has for goodies: it is running a 408 stroker 360 engine, feed by a 850 Demon carburetor, INDY Heads and a fiberglass front end. This engine was put on the dyno a few years back and hit 596 hp at the crank.
I hope you all enjoy this video…Subscribe to see the next amazing project we take on!
Hint: That insane engine…..it’s staying with Joe…….

Absolute music to my ears. Love that cracklin' sound of headers, capped or uncorked. Just loverly. I had a '70 Javelin with the 390 that I built a bit. That was an era nobody will ever forget. Loved the Nash Bridges '71 Hemi Cuda convertible, but it sure didn't sound like this one.
I gotta say there is no more pleasurable experience than gettin an old muscle car to roar to life. My brother has now got my Dad's '65 Buick that I'll take our Dad out for a ride in on nice summer days and getting it to fire up is just like this vid. A couple time cranking and giving the throttle a few pumps and fucker roars to life (yes sometimes it takes 2 tries or 3). Not ungodly loud but that same "aaaaaaaaah" factor hearing it catch and fire away :) The 401 nailvalve had a bit of a "lumpy" cam from the factory and makes it all the more enjoyable getting to hear her warm up and let me know when she's ready to get goin. I sound like an old timer but I'm only 31. I rock around in an '07 Mustang GT but the thrill of driving waht is now my brother's car can't be matched by any. You get so much feedback from old cars that you don't from new ones and makes you feel even more in touch with them. I tell my Dad every time we go out I love driving that car and hate when it gets put away for the winter, because that means another 6 months or so of not being able to drive it LOL!
My first car was a 1971 cuda with a 440. I paid $600 dollars for it because people could not afford the insurance or gas for it. They were selling dirt cheap in the 70s because of the gas crunch. What a fantastic introduction to driving.

Took my kids years ago to visit family in Chicago...They have cigarette boat races in Lake Michigan every summer. Was walking along the Naval Pier and a cigarette boat was sitting there idling and the sound was echoing off the pier walls...and it sounded exactly like this.To many of the visitors and tourists i'm sure they thought it was irritating noise but for me it was music ! ! ! Oh and there was a Coast Guard boat sitting at the end of the pier to keep the wild animal in check !

OMG, you damn lucky dog-that mopar is a work of art. Very impressive sound, the cam must be a solid lift-if not then pretty close to that. Enjoy it bro, you don't see them often or at least often enough.
there is nothing like the feeling you get a big muscle car driven on the street with open headers. natural aspirated no NOS no turbo no fuel injection and 500 hp to the wheels. if it breaks down you don't take it back to dad or the dealer you build it so you know what to do and what is wrong and you fix it on the spot. your hands will never be clean and your clothing will all have grease stains. im glad i live those days.
Sounds good once it started. Man clean that garage out. Cars so close together. I just spent about $6500 putting a foundation and a nice new shed structure so I could clean my garage out of everything except for the cars, two tool boxes , and the compressor.
Always has been my favorite car. Love the Plum Crazy and Sassy Green!

In the smooth appreciative words of Clint Eastwood in the movie Gran Torino as he looks at his beauty in the driveway, "Ain't She Sweet"... Nothing like an original and that Cuda is beautiful. It was bred to race and to just give a great experience to drive and have fun in. The newer MOPAR muscle is nice...but not THAT nice. Takes me back to the days of pumping the gas pedal or priming the carb and letting it warm up so it didn't stall, especially in the winter months here in the north east. You had to patient and take the time to warm it up so it could get you where you needed to go. Now technology has advanced so we can get in, start up and go a few minutes later, yet no one has anytime to spare and society is in such a big impatient hurry as of late, go figure. Who could have thought that these beautiful vehicles that were dependable, economical, and excuse my politically correct terms, esthetically pleasing and user friendly (we could work on them and fix them!) V-8's would be a bygone engine to be replaced finally by electric motors in cookie cut appearance vehicles. American muscle was for looks for sound and for going fast! Btw, why would someone in their right mind care if it's loud? (:31)
Nothing like the sound of a stroked motor, esp the idle and quick spoolup....JUST GAVE ME LIL CHUBBA😎
Oh god!!!! This is what you call a dream car! Sounds like heaven

Laying my Pioneer 88s face down and blasting Led Zeppelin worked for awhile. When it stopped working I'd wait until a half-hour or so after they were done partying, then take the car off the trailer. So I come to my defense about this loading procedure..... The car was mine, I sometimes have issues with the trailer ramps. Check out the driver side of the car. See the damage? The ramp slipped out on my OLD trailer and the car fell. So my overly cautious attempt to load this car onto my NEW trailer is the reason for the abnormalities. Also, to note the car has a spool rear end. So it doesn’t exactly turn on a dime and make for quick adjustments onto a trailer. Thanks to all who have watched, commented and subscribed. I take the criticism with a grain of salt, due to the fact nobody but Ric and I were there. And yes Ric is not a good assistant for loading a car, add to it the open headers and communication is near impossible with the car running..

I have to say, coaxing these old cars to start is a fucking orgasmic experience. My Dad's (now my brothers) '65 Riv is the same experience. Pump the gas pedal a few times crank her and try to get her to life. No-go, pump a couple more times and fucker roars to life. It's something so many people miss now and I'm thankful to get to experience this when I fire that car up. She's nothing fast or insane, just the standard 401CI nailvalve Buick threw in them, but damn....to feel her idling sends shivers up my spine.

Regardless of all the criticsm.. the car is sweet!! Hope it gives you the enjoyment one gets when riding her around. Just not sure where it would be for a genuine ride. I used to have a 95 GT and I had my exhaust cut. I would drive thru the tunnels in Boston during the summer and I would have a blast listening to the sound echo off the walls. I would be in 2nd gear all the way. Those were the days!! I had her for 20 years. I had to get rid of it. 😢 Sad day..
A cold start and trailer load Was awesome to me! I used to have weld wheels like that on my 73 formula
In 1970 (when I was 14!) my oldest brother (RIP Tommy) bought a brand new Gran Coupe. The GC was only built in 1970...334 units. Black on Black with a 335hp 383c.i. 4bbl with the iconic Hurst pistol grip shifter and 3.35 Dana 60 rearend. I learned to drive stick on the car! In '73 it dropped a valve and sent a rod thru the block. We got a 383 out of a Chrysler Newport ( not the same HP tho) and my best friend and I did the swap. He was going to sell the car to me for $1,000.00 ( I was then 17y.o.) but MOM said NO!! "It is too FAST for you!! :-(" I think he paid $4,800 new for it. I see them now on fleabay for almost 100k! brought back memories of the sound my brothers 1969 Road Runner with 1200 HP made he pulled a wheelie one day lady DWI t-boned him and totaled it
There is nothing that sounds greater than a built v8 on open headers . God makes my skin crawl
I actually started to fall asleep waiting for the car to be loaded onto the trailer.... GREAT video..
You must really have that motor dailed in. I hAve 84 Grand Prix with a 383 and a bigger hydraulic flat tappet cam. I have to let it warm up before I put it in gear or it'll stall. For you guys to put it on a trailer like that it must really be tuned in right. I should also say it sounds amazing

@Mod Zozer I have a vacuum pump. But your right it would have been better to switch to manual brakes
