Many original 1960s portable record players did have feet on the back, as well as the bottom, such as Dansettes.

That's a good little machine, and the stereo head is a game changer, ideal for playing old Tapes , I wonder what a good Quality recorded metal tape sounds like through a decent amplifier.....

That is a great add-on for a portable player. They could add the ability for tunning FM stations and recording from radio and LP's on cassette just like in the old days. It's was great fun to create your own mixtapes with your favorite music.

I was impressed with the unit and even the cassette section didn't sound too bad. I certainly wasn't aware of serious wow and flutter issues.

It would be nice to see a suitcase player with a rechargeable battery. Then it would truly be portable. I think there are some out there if I'm not mistaken 😏 Awsome video Recordology Dude 😀

This is sure better what i had in 1969. Thank the higher power for K-mart. i purchased a suitcase type record player, but was made of plastic type materials. Then i found two speakers at K-mart too. It sounded not too bad. Records cost 3.33 $ for 331/3. I was in Heaven ha!! Good starter!

How do you do a direct feed out of this? Line level outputs from a ceramic cartridge are usually a very hot signal, certainly much more than that of a magnetic cartridge. I can do direct feeds out of an Audio Technica AT-LP60, into my iPhone, but trying it with say, a Crosley, and it overloads it.

I used the headphone jack to my digital recorder so I could pad the signal with the volume knob. Otherwise I have to use a headphone amp to lower the volume.

I've got a GPO Flight suitcase record player with slot in tape player. It's not the best mechanism as sometimes when you push the tape in the spring doesn't push it down properly on the spindles (hence the rattling in your video) and you have to try it a few times before it works. As the flight I have is slightly bigger than the smaller suitcase record players I've decided to try and upgrade it by retro fitting a Audio Technica AT3600LP magnetic cartridge to it. Have so far fitted the cartridge and added sufficient counterweight to get tracking force down to just over 3 grams. I've not yet fitted the RIAA preamp I've picked up :)

@@Recordology Just to advise that I fitted the RIAA preamp today. My flight turntable has an issue with the main amp so played through the internal speakers sounds squawky. However, have connected it via bluetooth to my sound system and does sound considerably better. I need to do some more tweaks as there's no dampening on the flight turntable (even the Crosley Cruiser has some rubber grommits) and if I could sort out the problem with the main amp would be great. Even the tape player squawks through the internal speakers but sounds fine taking the output via bluetooth or the headphone socket. It was a 'listed as broken' ebay purchase mind you.

Great video!!!!. Awe. this basic things cost the salary of a month in Argentina and is so rough. I am from late 40s never imagined discs would be produced in 2024. Believe me in the 50's 60s etc equipments were far better. I had dozens. Cheers from the coldest place on Earth Patagonia

I have never spent $100 on an impulse buy. Never been that well off I guess. I certainly would never look at something that costs $100 as disposable. I would probably just save the $100 and use it towards a better device.

With regards to vinyl record cleaners, I suddenly remembered the product RESTORE4 vinyl cleaner which comes with other different cleaning solutions. It had a very good effect on one of my most scratchy sounding LP record. It really practically removed the noise on that record. Unfortunately, the other products that come along with it had issues and the whole set was banned from the market. I just hope it will become available again. I guess you're familiar with that product brand.

record player suitcases are extremly stigmatized. sure they're low quality and uses the same generic mechanism. but rarely wise like this, is close to be good. not good but not awful for its range. but honestly, most of suitcase players where rarely good back then since most of them where also low end entry from the 60s somewhere.

I would not find lots of excuses for things not working properly. You sound a bit too forgiving about the tape player. It is supposed to function properly when it is taken straight from the box. If they cannot add a functioning cassette tape player, then why even add it in the first place. Otherwise it's a great video and I like the comparision with disposable cameras. But even those you expect to function before actually disposing them.
