Well, as a long time Bushcrafter and former Vietnam Vet Recon Rat, this was a nice change of pace from all the so-called “experts” and armchair woodsmen online. Well done! Great to see a true ‘newbie’ make a thorough review from their perspective! (And I also love watching Felix and his creativity!)

While I no longer have the need for a survival knife, I carry a pocket knife religiously and use it multiple times daily. Looking forward to seeing you try your hand at basic bush craft skills. How fun!!!

There appears to be quite a bit of overlap between the knife and the fountain pen communities. I've been fascinated with Swiss army knives and survival stuff in general since I was a kid, but the only knife I owned for a long time (30 years) was my little Swiss army classic. When my daughter expressed an interest in knives I got her a little Swiss army rally and she loves it and uses it everyday, but she has developed an interest in collecting "pretty" knives. She and I both got Boker Kalashnikov Desert Warriors, but I realized that if a knife is pretty, I won't use it. So when I saw this knife, I knew it was the one for me. BTW, I love your username/handle. 😀

very nice collectible knife. Perfect for what us knife enthusiast mostly do: to look at them. From a practical perspective it looks massively overenginerd .. but it still looks great. My oldest Victorinox, identical to yours I surmise (1989) is still sharp (!!..but I too had to change the scales), I have a number of SAKs to help though, so it aged well. Great products, whose price you start to really understand after 35 years of use.

My little Swiss army classic was the only knife I owned for 30 years, so it has not had an easy life. Then 3 years ago I got a little Swiss army rally, and it lives on my key ring and is part of my edc. The classic now lives on my desk...and is freshly sharpened. A year ago I got a little Boker Kalashnikov and I realized that it's not the kind of knife for me because it's too pretty. It sits in a drawer and I've never used it. This Victorinox Venture is a knife, like my little Swiss army knives, that I'm not afraid to use. 😀

You're so right about just looking at our knives. But I have to admit that my knives, although rarely applied to their intended use, bring me much happiness. I don't know why, but I love opening the knife drawer, holding them, stropping, applying some oil to the carbon ones, putting conditioner on the leather sheaths (half have leather), etc. I just can't explain it. Some amazing engineering going on there! I think with a Bic lighter as primary, and the fire steel as backup, there's no need for the divot in the handle. Regarding fire steels: all of the experts say that rather than holding the rod stationary, and scraping the scraper/knife down along it, resulting in your tinder getting knocked all over, it's best to pull the rod up, leaving the scraper stationary. That way, only sparks fall onto your tinder, and nothing knocks it away. Great video! Thanks for posting!

Thanks for the tips, Scotty. And I agree, I would never go anywhere that I want to use my knife without taking a lighter also. I want to build at least one fire with a bow drill, but honestly, if I'm in a situation where I have to do that for survival, I'm probably toast anyway. 😂

  • @blazel462

The trick is to scrape a bunch of the firesteel material into the kindling before you make sparks…not too much, but enough to continue the sparking for a bit longer. Also, the motion to generate sparks is more of a rub than a strike…idk, works for me. Will give the pull up a shot next camping trip I go on.

Nice job, Lady! It's nice/refreshing hearing a ladies voice talking about cool gadgets/knives and stuff on youtube.I think they would do well if they expanded that knife line to include a paramedics knife shears set or just add an IFAK with shears. Great video, glad I stumbled across you.

I bought a campingaxe from Fiskars, the X5, it has a hollow handle and I think it is fantastic, you can stack so much in it!! Would look and work great with the Venture 😍 Greetings from Holland

Talking about seeing things advertised with "1-800" numbers makes me feel even older. I am old enough to remember the advent of "DDD" which is Direct Distance Dialing, which arrived in the early 60's with the use of Area Codes by the consumer. Until then there were only "operator assisted" long distance calls with the option of "person to person" (more expensive) or "station to station" (cheaper). That was about the same time that Zip Codes replaced the one or two digit "postal zones."

As far as I know, they are having tours of the plant where they assemble most of their products. It should be mentioned on the website which time of the day you can visit the facility. I am in the official national knife builders guild here in Denmark, and every year, the organization arranges a field trip to a certain location with reference to a known brand or a special location that has an interest for users and members plus family or friends and this year the trip goes to Solingen. Next year, we might be going to Switzerland to visit Victorinox if there is interest enough to go. Greetings from an avid collector 😊

Он, как дополнение к старому Samsung A 30. От 2016 г. У вас вообще шикардосный аппарат. Почему купил такой я аппарат в пределах 6 тыс., потому , что денег много нет пока. Swiss Army knife toothpicks are sold in packets. They are not supposed to last long. I built my survival knife from a part of a circular saw blade, and I did have a hollow handle of tubular steel. There were two main reasons for this, one is that it is lighter and made the knife easier to throw--not that I recommend doing it. I believe it is always better to have it in your hand, but the main reason I used a tubular steel handle was so it could double as a spear by slipping it over a shaft. I always make a brass or bronze hilt on my knives, so the hand can not slip down over the blade, as can happen if the blade is slippery from blood or oil. It also makes it easy to tie it over a shaft to secure it as a spear head. Making a knife into a spear head may not seem important, but a spear is a far better counter to an animal than a knife held in the hand, and makes it possible to use it to catch fish. I never thought of winding some fishing line on a stick and putting it into the handle, but it is certainly a great idea.

It's a nice looking knife. I like drop point blades but I would have to contain my judgement of the knife until I sharpened it so I could tell what kind of use I could get from it. The rest of the kit wouldn't be useful to me. I have been a hunter in the mountains of Colorado all my life and know what I need in the woods. When my son was young and I was teaching him wood craft and hunting big game animals I got us both fire starters. A magnesium block with a flint and striker. We learned to make fire in all kinds of different conditions but I found I could build a fire with a bic lighter kept in a plastic bag. Now I just have a waterproof match container in my day pack. I am seldom far enough into back country that walking out in one day is not possible. In my day pack I carry game bags, a good packable bone saw, cord to hold a harvested animal in different positions while I use the gutless method to dismember it. Very little else is needed. Oh, a small ceramic steel is always in the pack.
