    What I also like about the Manager (and the Rambler) is that the blade opens on the other side than the key ring. This makes cutting easier if you have it on your key chain.

    I love the classic SD, been carrying one with me for 12 years. Personally I use the scissors and tweezers most often. I’ve made one small modification to it by using a micro engraver to add a ruler to the back of the nail file. The 58mms also make really great gifts, I’ve brought them for most of my family usually in the recipient’s favourite colour.

    Really fun these little buggers! During my college years I was a postman on the weekend & used a classic SD to cut plastic binders for about 4 years, it held up fine besides having to glue the celidor scales back on. Recently lost it :( Replaced it for an Alox Classic SD model, I had a weak spot for it after that. As they hold up to quite some use.

    I prefer the Classic SD. It’s way thinner than the Manager without losing any important functionality. The Alex is nice, but I also use the toothpick and tweezers. Sometimes a knife can be too thin, creating greater pressure on one’s hands. Having a Classic SD on one’s keychain allows for fewer scales on their main knife. That’s just me. 🤷🏼‍♂️

    Personally I find that small Phillips driver, the bottle opener and the pressurised pen much too valuable to not have them, but the standard Classic is brilliant as well - something for most tastes with Victorinox though isn’t there 🙂🫣

    Happy Friday Mr. A. FYI I have over 200 SAK's mainly Victorinox but including around 15 Wengers & 5 Swiss Buck Wengers. Of my 200+ SAK's some 110 are 58mm Classic SD's with decorative limited edition or advertising scales, 5 are Alox scaled 58mm's & I have 10 genuine 58mm Classics in a number of different coloured scales ie. they have nail files with a pointed nail cleaning tip. My first ever keyring SAK when I was 8 back in London where I was born & raised was a red 58mm Classic , as a child & a teen in London & later as a soldier in Israel ( I served 3 years as a conscript in the IDF ) I was none to kind on them & went through a number of them over the years and I have not carried one on my keyring for more than 20 years preferring to carry first the standard Mini-Champ, then the stndard Manager, then the Midnite Mini-Champ, then the Midnite Manager & currently a hybrid SilverTech scaled Midnight Mini-Champ . I sort of rotated my keyring SAK every five years going back & forth between variants of the Manager & the Mini-Champ . My keyring SAK is the fixed element of my pocket knife EDC - my 2nd knife is always a larger bladed one & not necessarily a Victorinox or a slip joint as I am a big fan of locking blade & flipper knives. I never carried any of my 58mm Classic SD's , Alox 58mm SD's or any of my Wenger 65mm keyring models preferring to keep them as collectables especially since Wenger is discontinued as is the annual set of 10 X 58mm Victorinox decorative scaled classic SD's as of 2021 .

    I am actually considering these options to pair with my Pioneer. If you had a Pioneer can opener/2d phillips driver, AND the manager with its 3d phillips, which would you use if you should encounter a phillips foe in the wild? On one hand, the stouter/thicker pioneer would provide better leverage and torque, however on the other hand, that phillips on the manager looks pretty capable and should bite better! That alox SD looks pretty nice too! So thin! Are the tools on the Classic alox thicker than a Classic SD like the 91mm vs 93mm tools? Thanks! Great videos!

  • @accoutrements4469

    @accoutrements4469

    Жыл бұрын

    You’re right about the extra torque with the pioneer but that little Phillips on the manager/rambler is really excellent and very capable! Plus the shape of the Manager means it’s really comfortable to use, plus the fact that it can reach really recessed screw makes it a fantastic screwdriver - I often reach for it in preference over proper actual dedicated screwdrivers as it reaches into hard to access places. The tools in the Alox Classic are exactly the same dimensions as in the other 58mm models.

    I usually carry a Pioneer, and I have Jetsetter on my key chain. The Jetsetter has the scissors, Phillips, tweezers and toothpick, but it has no blade (which I never need, I also have other knives on me) and no file (which I hardly ever need), and it's noticeably thinner than the Manager/Rambler. (You could upgrade the Jetsetter to have scales with a pen if you need that instead of the tweezers or toothpick.) This combo works well for me.
