As Outdoor/ Survival/Bushcraft/Military (have 1 before 2017 with sliding lock older was better than new version) 3 Swisstool X plus ratchet. As a back-up tool box for vehicles, plants, base camp... and equipment maintenance in the middle of nowhere... (one always in the car boot) I have had waiter 84mm, spartan, camper (completely consumed)... As my experience I tell you this: do not settle for less than 1 2 3 or you end up lacking something. wood saw and scissors are inevitable to have together. Are must have. Real usable sizes are common 91 and 111 and the multitool set must be completed with the ratchet to be seriously proficient. This days an interesting alternative in the 111mm category: like soldier outrider trekker trailmaster is the Ruike LD42-B. Phillips Screwdriver in T with the handle instead of corkscrew is a big bullshit due to marketing purposes. Get the corkscrew it is way more useful. And since they are quality made tools take always a look to used oportuities especially in 91mm... sometimes you get wonderful deals.

Toothpick, tweezers and key ring already existed in 1991, but this Spartan is an "Economy" version, that's why it doesn't have the scale tools or a key ring. (It might have been called a Standard because of that, which was the predecessor of the Spartan.)

I bought mine in 1990, it lacks toothpick and tweezers, but it does have key ring. Its awl does not have a through hole int it though.

Modern Victorinox scales also have a little hole behind the cork screw / Phillips driver. You can store a straight pin there, which is easy to pull out. But I have seen people storing a sewing needle there, and pulling it out with the tweezers.

I have The Huntsman without hook, made 1991. And I have Handyman and Compact, made 2022. In newest SAK models there are a special pin hole in the scales, in front of corcscrew or Philips screwdriver. The Compact even has sold with that pin. You don't need to carry your pin in tweezers. I decided to change my pin and to carry a sewing needle with thread in that original pin hole.

Thread I round around corcscrew. I always has an emergency sewing kit in that hole.

Or you can use a pouch to store and protect your knife. I have two different models from Victorinox with their own pouches, and they look like new.

the older you are the less you use corkscrew and more often Philips))).

It really depends on what you are going for. Besides opening wine-bottles (that have less and less cork plugs to begin with and the ones they have are usually artificial) you can use it to open knots or drill into soft wood. The Phillips screwdriver comes in handy to tighten screws on: furniture, cooking tools, motorbike-battery-covers/lids etc. If you see yourself more on the side of tightening or unscrewing a cross-section screw than opening bottles in the wild than the screwdriver version is the better option.

Tip of can opener works for me as a 2d Phillips, and the tinkers Phillips is oddly situated for many applications. Cork screw makes a great marlin spike and can hold an eyeglass repair kit mini screwdriver or fire starting rod.
