VICTOR WOOTEN - BASS TIMING - TMNtv
Музыка
An organic and intuitive approach to keeping time and being in tune with the groove. Also, some nice bass licks to boot.

He is actually a great teacher. This lesson demonstrates trying to find your internal timing with the metronome clicks. Doing so strengthens both your ability to play naturally, and to be able to play along to a click.
I've watched two of his lessons, just five minutes each. And they were the most musically enlightening ten minutes of my life!
Victor Wooten is the best bass teacher.dude is my hero!
A moment of appreciation for Steve Bailey nailing it every time

"Easyer" when you dont talk at the same time...
I didn't get what he was talking about until the end, so I had to re-watch it. All of a sudden it made perfect sense. This is a great piece of instruction.
His book "The Music Lesson" is so good, such an awesome teacher for musicians of ANY style.
This is what the term AWSOME! really means. Victor is my all time favorite bassist.
EVERYONE! The area where it sounded like mud and crappy, it was meant to be that way. He even said ‘Really just trying to go crazy. My hands are on auto pilot. I’m just trying to feel the groove in my body.’ He was literally just screwing around, getting his hands out of time with his body to strengthen his body’s internal groove. That’s what this whole thing is about. It’s a practice technique. I did this a lot when I was in college studying percussion just so I could have the strongest possible understanding and instinct (this is mainly instinct; it’s like instinct practice really) of time. Practicing isn’t always pretty, it rarely is, if ever. He’s in a private lesson with a few bassists who he is showing them techniques to practice with. You guys are looking for reasons to attack this guy. Petty.
My favorite bass player ever.
It would be fun and cool to see Victor Wooten, Billy Sheehan and Geddy Lee playing together the master of funk the master of rock n roll and the the master of almost everything.
GENIUS
I was at the first, 2000! Best week of my life
I've been to one of these type of things with Jeff Berlin, it did teach me a lot, and is a program, but most of it was learned in the first week. These guys will teach you concepts and try to show you how to read music. If your not interested in reading music, GOOD...Its basically memorization. You can get the same information from a 12 dollar book. Learning fingering position, technique, and getting the skills to move on is what you learn, but this video works as good as being there.
Amazing...
I just look forward to meeting ma bass role model victor
I love the technique
great video. 5. God bless.
hahaha this man is so creative. strange practice methods just like on his book :D i love it!
good point
🤘😷🤘2020
That should get you a gig in Nashville in no time :)
when them two together ,its always funny
true
I find that the slower the beat the more mistakes I make because of rushing. Sometimes, I would just put metronome on, get the counting right go about a chore, come back and listen if my counting is still in beat with metronome. It's one thing to internalize, it is a whole other ballgame when it you keep tempo while doing something else or getting distracted. .
And their beautiful.
Agreed.
@ericmknight1906 The thing is, the fast riffs we see here are training. Victor believes, and so do I, that if you play as flashy and as fast as you can during trainings, toning it down will be easy.
@mashmnky couldn't agree more
WOW, i personally trhink this is more impressive than some of his really popular stage bass solo's
monster bass player
sorry, but you're mistaken (no offense!!) ;) fender got this new steve bailey 6 string. i just recognized that 2 weeks ago too, so they are pretty new =)
than victor, steve & you together.
Try doing this without a metronome and without tapping your foot or moving any other part of your body and see how good your timing is
work work work .
Is that Steve Bailey behind Vic? He looks sleepy. Great players both.
From waht maschine is the Klick comming?
I am guitarrist in need of internal time keeping. What is he teaching here? Why is he making grooves in between the click ? Thank you

Well, his DVD 'The Groove Workshop' changed my playing (in a good way, of course) and my thought about music in general. It must be even better in personal. So, I cannot agree with you.
He teachs that, never leave the rhythm. Feel it.
what type of drum machine? I must have!!!

Erich, Thanks for Watching, for Your Question & Comment. The type (make/model) of drum machine doesn't matter. Just get any model that fits your budget (even used model, on eBay) and use the metronome function as Victor does, in the video, to setup a repeatable "stick hit" with enough time space between hits for you to "train" your body, ears & instincts to know where the "timing is" between hits. That's what Victor is trying to teach & illustrate, in this video. Thanks again for Watching, Please Make Sure to Subscribe if you haven't already & Stay Tuned, The Musician Network (TMNtv)
@patrick61503 I think that's Steve Bailey. almost as famous as wooten.
@mashmnky I don't really agree, check out his interviews and see what his wills really are.
No, they're just your favorite
That's the point of the exercise to play notes at random and still be able to know where the beat is. Using a riff or lick would be too easy. This is advance stuff buddy! In his workshop I believe he starts with a riff and starts taking away clicks from the metronome in order to improve timing. He goes through various stages of timing internalization.

Absolutely. I'd say this is the secret to the baddest mofos like Larry Graham and Claypool. The beat isn't a cage for them, but they never lose the 'one.' So when you find yourself going berserk at a Primus show, that's why.
THUMBS UP FOR THUMB PLAYERS!
@mashmnky not impossible if hes playing it O_O
he was trying to show that everyone has a internal body clock.
@mashmnky i would still pay for that hahahahah
Flea plays more than who?
Fender 6 string fretless :)
And this proves what? What do you mean he plays more, more songs per day?
yeah, this is a great way to improve your timing as a musician. it's a really hard exercise. shame he's just playing such complicated stuff on top to demonstrate it. try it with just a simple groove and you'll see just how hard it is and how it improves your playing.
I don't know man, if Jaco isn't the best he's definitely up there
"I just put my hands on autopilot"
*Removes his hands completely from the bass and places them in his lap.. bass continues to make slapping clipping and other off time popping noises... Victor "any questions?"
He's trying to forget the metronome and be as flashy as he can and still get the time.
I said b4 and will say again: Flea plays more than they both together.
that may have more to do with your hearing than his playing.
imagine a lesson from those guys....one's got a 6 string fretless, and the other a piccolo tuned 30in slap bass....ermmm no thanks!
I like that white Fan
A master Bassist.Just too clicky for me. If you raise the action though, you can t pull off all that stuff.
The guys gonna have arthuritus so bad when he's old. lol
hahaha maybe that too lol, he's better!
Meditation + music = win ? lol Steve got bored.
and apparently he plays them out of amps made from manure.
you shouldn't really bring your bass to this camp. just bring your camcorders!
it just doesn't sound right!! I like pure funk better :(
it's not like that at all
I would rather hear some licks with a feel to it rather than a shit ton of ghost notes/plucks played super fast like that...Although Vic is an amazing bassist, this sucks. I'd be pissed if I paid a bunch of money for this. I have no desire to play like that.

Why are you on a Wooten video then?
@Ruairoquai
6 жыл бұрын
He knows he'll never be that good, so rather than suck it up and accept that, he just wants to downplay Wootens skill. He's an idiot.
I officially declare I am sick and tired of Wooten and all this wanking and tearing. Also tired of Jaco, Berlin, Miller, Bailey and every other wanker that decided bass is for soloing and wanking, and forgot its groove role.

Totally agree. Scandalous as this may sound - bass just doesn’t sound good fast and up high for any length of time. It gets really tedious very quickly. The odd fill is cool but grooving down low with just 2 notes will ALWAYS beat any amount of hi speed technical madness. This video was torture to watch. Musical invention is everything in the end and some players can play everything at warp speed but will never write anything memorable.

Rather than accept that you'll never have that level of skill, you decide to shit on Wooten and other talented bass players. What a sad person you are.
