First game, he has a lot of work to do, but a lot of potential. He needs to stop trying to be KD and look for the easy shots. Where were the oops, the easy pnrs, midrange bankshots, the inside seals? Gotta use your height to your advantage. He has to remember he isn't a shooter, despite the fact he can hit some shots at 7'5.

All Wemby has to do is focus on what he does best and that is his All World Defense/Rim Protection. The offense will come in time when he gets used to the physicality of the NBA. Remember this kid will be coached by Popovich and developed by a team with perhaps the best developmental staff. He just arrived in a foreign land so give the kid a break.

Not really impressed with either Wembenyama or Brandon Miller so far . Amen Thompson and Scoot Henderson look more like NBA ready players . It’s early on but so far the 3rd and 4th players chosen look better than the first and second picks . I might even give a slight edge to Amen Thompson because he looked really good on both offense and defense. 16 Points 5 Assists 4 Rebounds 4 Blocks 3 Steals From the guard position is phenomenal.

@@chinquinostrabambino9811 that’s just an excuse . Wembi has been playing professionally for a few years now and projected to be the first pick in the draft for over a year so he should be very use to the spotlight. Some players are late bloomers but when you go number one in the draft fair or not you are expected to perform at a decent to high level. I’m just giving my honest take on the play that I have seen so far from the top prospects in the draft. Sorry but with high draft picks you are paid the big bucks right out of the gate so expectations are going to come with the territory. I wouldn’t be worried from a fan standpoint because a season is a marathon and I’m sure he will improve.

Summer league means pretty much nothing. As a Pacers fan I always go back to the Paul George, Lance Stephenson summer league. Lance looked like Magic Johnson and PG looked like a bum. Also, being just a glorified pick up game, point guards always look better because they have the ball most.

@@Iaintsayinnothin.. your play on the court dictates what your ceiling is in this league . I’ve seen plenty of GM’s get fired because they drafted for potential over pure talent . Btw from what I was seeing Scoot and Amen their potential looks pretty darn good . Miller shoots a little too much IMO and isn’t very efficient. Wembi looks uncomfortable with the pace of the NBA game and his shot looks like it needs some work.

That was a lot of pressure to put on a young man who hasn’t ever played in this league or against the level of talent that he will face every night in the NBA . I think the young man will be a good pro only time will tell if he makes the leap to become a great pro . Might be a year or two before we see his true potential . He’s got the physical tools to be special just needs the basketball skills to match the hype and you’ve got something .

The problem that Wemby has is “he is trying to play the way that everyone expects him to be,” the G/SF position ALa KD, MJ, Lebron. Talent wise, he just doesn’t have the “tools” to accomplish that, even with more practices or training. He is quick for a typical center but very slow for an average SG/SF speed; he can’t guard them and he doesn’t have the first step to get by them. If you don’t have the ultra first step, then you need to be a light out shooter to be a starter level SG/SF. Wemby is not even an average shooter now. Don’t get fooled by all the highlights, his field goal percentage for a guy at 7’5 is only a meager 48-49% and his awesome looking step back 3 point percent is 29% in an inferior French league. Evidently, we saw lots of air ball three point shots from him in this game. Anyways, he should play to his only advantage, the height of 7’5, and be an interior player, whether a center or a power F. Stop trying to be something that your ability or lack of can’t support, ala 7’5 KD. Just look at how Fast, not just straight line speed but shake and hip movement, that KD has and how accurate and efficient KD’s shooting range is, you tell me Wemby has any chance to be KD type?!?? Forget KD, as I aforementioned, Wemby is simply too slow for an average wing player and doesn’t have the shooting touch that a wing should have. Stick to being a Center or power forward and learn how to play inside game, rebound, set screen, anchor the defense, jump hook, finish lobs. Then again, he probably gets deceived by the media narrative that he could dominate the NBA more than KD, Lebron, MJ; he doesn’t want to “settle” for the possibility of being another great PF or Center. To be honest, with his very fragile frame, it is not a guarantee at all that he can be a great center/PF, but at least he does have a chance due to his height and relatively quickness comparing to Center/ PF

I’m wondering if some of ya’ll know basketball or what? Everyone out there is playing for self and not trying to put him in a situation where he would get easy shots. This is just not the right environment to judge him in. The kid has a lot of potential and you can see it in his moves to the basket. 1. He needs to get stronger 2. He has to adjust to the pace in the NBA 3. He needs to establish himself in the post not for overall banging in the post not for pounding, but more so for turnaround jump shots and creation.
