Victim Gets Engaged to an Online Romance Scammer

Most scammers are bold, but this might be one of the boldest scams we've seen yet. But, to understand this story, you first need to understand the women involved. Lori is an author and a romantic. She has been waiting her whole life for the man of her dreams. To Lori's surprise, this man didn't come in on horseback wearing shiny armor. Instead, he came to her through her LinkedIn account. Lori is a sweet woman who loves openly, and Nick was a doctor who lived overseas helping the US government handle the crisis in Yemen. The two hit it off as the days turned into weeks, and the weeks turned into months, it seemed Lori and her mystery man grew an unbreakable bond. But of course. There's more to this story.

She lost me when she demanded they reach out to real Dr. whose picture was used by the scammers: "I want his input, I want his side of the story". Lady, he has no input nor side of the story. He is blissfully unaware of your personal drama or that you even exist. She thinks just because she fell in love with his picture, the real person owes her some perspective and closure. Lol. Seriously.

The exception would be that one video where the Catfished people got a hold of the real Instagram model and had her talk to the guy who was scammed via video-chat (The one who wore the Hustler t-shirt and was spread eagle during the chat) 😅 But yeah in terms of finding the real person and listening to their story: to quote Black Panther "we don't do that here" 😇

It's a common thing with most of these victims. They describe how the scammer said she was beautiful, and she knew she was, and so on. They all show a high degree of self-confidence that's disconnected from reality. And the number of them who say "I'm very sharp, I can't be fooled" minutes before they explain they had to send steam gift cards so he could eat on the oil rig, and so on. It's fascinating.

In what world is she not a "victim"? She's an innocent person who was scammed, she definitely is a "victim", regardless of what opinions you may have of the situation. Anyone can be scammed, no matter if they're young, old or smart. The scammer took advantage of her loneliness to steal money from her, what was done to her was wrong, regardless if you want to feel sorry for her or not which I think she's definitely not losing any sleep over. Also what make's you think she's going to stalk the Dr.? Because she asked to hear a comment from him? Something that Social Cat Fish has done before on their own, which is getting comments from people who have had their photos stolen.

This woman highlighted something I didn't realize until listening to how she explained HER emotional state of mind, of how a fantasy is what she was creating, not an actual relationship. And because of that, ultimately, these romance stories are spun by the women themselves - not the scammer! The scamming thief just knits together what she's spun, and markets the product for profit. All of these stories are of the victim's creation, all are things she fantasizes or desires, the scammer simply puts himself (as a photo) in front of her, and it's off to the races! And in the grand scheme of things, he really doesn't have to do much of anything at all, she's the one guiding him directly to the point he needs to be, in order for him to steal. Pretty slick.

Exactly! That's why I've always said they're not actually vulnerable in the truest sense of the word. They're not scared of relationships or intimidated by men like REAL vulnerable women are. They're actually quite entitled and feel they deserve this fantasy relationship. Very egotistical. If some gorgeous man (like the stolen profile pictures always tend be) started pursuing me online...my first thought would be... "Why me though? " 🤔 Because there are far better looking women than me out there. I'm not ugly, but I'm not a 10 either! To look like this woman, and not doubt for a second that this successful, rich, doctor chose HER above thousands of other women on dating sites, takes some ego! We can all whip up a fantasy relationship in our minds, but then we'd say, "no point even thinking about that because life isn't like that!"

.Those scammers play on the vulnerabilities and insecurities of woman of a certain age.. I remember my mum over 40 years ago feeling anxious about getting old and I wasnt very sympathetic as a teenager Im afraid. I didnt understand but I do now. Im fortunate in that after losing my mobility after a spinal injury the colour of my hair or whiteness of my teeth mattered far less than the hearts of the people around me. We live in a society where looks suoercede every other personal quality. After my own struggles I met a range of responses to disability to those who avoided me or held low expectations of me to souls able to unconditionally accept my limitations which I found far more beautiful than appearances. They are a rare breed indeed but when you come across one its changes everything. Their refusal to condemn or judge others by their looks or imperfections spreads far more joy and contentment than surface beauty.ever could. We come in all shapes and sizes and skin colours but share one critical component ....our ability to love. When more souls choose to love with compassion there will be far less need for older or less than perfect souls like me to feel they can only be accepted when they look good. .

Lori, you were so smart to Google the information regarding whether or not you were responsible for paying for your fiancee's leave from the military. I don't understand how people can fall for that! When you are in the military, travel is covered. So is insurance, food, and most everything else! Good for you! However, I am so sorry that this scammer broke your heart. I pray that you meet someone loving and wonderful that is deserving of you. God bless you.

I believe this woman is the single most 'bossy' woman yet. The absolutely and nearly 'violent' power-demands she makes are actually worrisome. I can easily believe she has already been in criminal levels of Stalking and as other's have pointed out already - she will start stalking the real life Dr. Maersk demanding (nearly with violent authority) demanding he does something about this.

I mean, I am 2 years older than her, and I think she looks 45. She's in the deluded thoughts he fed her. She could be 85 and he would tell her she looks 40. She is very dramatic and catastrophic. This is an image of a man you thought was being honest with you, you are not going to die from not marrying a scammer who you never met. I mean I get the loss, but at some point, you have to pick up the pieces and step into reality. She's lost more time than anything else. She is sad over the man she wishes he was, but the time she's lost in this crazy fantasy world along with this time she's spending justifying all of her behavior in this as a willing participant, is all time she will never get back. That's when you really have to be your self coach and tell yourself you have to step into reality and unplug from this tech drama. Wanting this innocent guy's side of the story is another delusion. He doesn't owe you a thing, you put yourself in this mess, it's not up to anyone to clean up your mistakes but you. Period. It's pretty audacious to allege he owes anyone anything. He owes himself privacy protection if he so chooses.
