Vicki Explores ... Magna Carta at Runnymede
It's 9th September, and it's time to a visit a place that we didn't get a chance to go to whilst on 'All The Stations'.
But the rule is, we can of course only go back to these places .. by train. There's no station at Runnymede though, so we got someone to pick is up from Shepperton!

BTW it looks like it now is!
The Air Forces Memorial is worth a visit to and the view from the tower is amazing!
Where was the Magna Carta signed? At the bottom!
Vicki Explores is a wonderful spin off!
There is a funny story about Shepperton. In the early 80's a class 508 unit when through the buffers and did a good impression of wanting to fly. Reportedly, it was Ian Allan himself who informed the police (the Ian Allan offices were slap bang next door to the station). There were no serious injuries, which makes it a funny story rather than a sad one.
Vicki Explores needs it's own channel! I love these videos!
Now you need to go to my hometown of Bury St Edmunds where the Barons met to plan the Magna Carta!
Keep 'em coming! More Vicki Explores While Geoff Sips!

i get it. Vicki explores castles while Geoff samples tea from different places.
Ah Shepperton again! Thankful for the reignition of my interest in UK railways.
❤️ Vicki Explores - it feels like the adventure is continuing.
A really nice video. Vicki Explores .... is a nice little series.
Literally down the road from me and you stopped in Englefield Green to see the trains from Egham and Virginia Water fly past. Gutted I missed you!
Oh YAY, please make this a regular thing! Also, you should put ads on this stuff now so you can pay for the teas.

I just had to laugh" we're back baby" yes 🎉🎉🎉 we need more please 😀
Another great presentation
You missed the biggest memorial at Runnymede and also the best place to view the entire site from. It's up the top of the hill (Coopers Hill) and is huge. It commemorates those members of the air forces of the British Empire (as it was then) and allied nations (such as the Poles and Free French) who died at or flying from bases in Europe during the Second World War and have no known grave. It has to be huge to record the names of 20,456 men and women. Not only can you see all of Runnymede you can, on a clear day, see much of London.
You guys got a franchise. Keep it up!
Hooray you have no idea how happy this has made me!! I've been missing all the stations so much. Please do more !!!

Another Hit Show (!!) Vicki Explores Big Winner --- out of the original series
Belated welcome to Runnymede. Lived here for many years. Glad you came back. Not very trainsy though, there are a couple of nice bridges over the Thames. All The Bridges! 🤓
I'm so happy!!! More More More !!
Yayyy I was sooo hoping the channel wouldn't end when you finished and Vicki explores was one of the things that immediately came to mind! Keep them coming guys love your videos! (Just imagined Geoff having an "oh for goodness sake this is what we do now isn't it" moment while reading through the many comments of support to the continuation of the channel hahaha)
More of this please! Great work.
The person who does the music could make a good sample of that "Warning! Another train is approaching".
Love how excited Vicki gets about history
We are really going to see "All the Castles", aren't we? Aren't we? Please...

The juror chair installation is so interesting! "A home to politics and picnics for over 1000 years". Love it! :D And, wow, not just one train at the end, but two!
Next Stop Vicki... Rochester Cathedral, where the Textus Roffensis Resides, the predecessor to the Magna Carta, which detailed the basis for Old English Law.
Nice to see a All the Stations: Vickie Explores video :D nice to see Geoff and Vickie back, hope more of these video happen, keep up the good work
The Runnymede site is walkable from Egham station. It is north of the Reading line.
I would have thought Egham was closer than Shepparton in terms of stations. IIRC both are on the Reading to London Waterloo line. Fun to see this neck of the woods again - just down the road from WDF or World Duty Free's bonded warehouse near Heathrow Airport.
Brilliant, thank you :)
my daughter has been at royal holloway University down the road for 3 years and I STILL haven't been to visit Runnymede !
Very interesting Vicky . Nice work. Keep the tea comming Geoff
My favorite summer series returns!!
Memorial to the Magna Carta... built by the American Bar Association.
Another good video Vicki
Welcome back!!! And....more Pacers please....
Hope when you go to Colwall to visit the least used station in Herefordshire, you bring Vicki to do a Vicki Explores at neighbouring Great Malvern. The station is worth an explore on it own, let alone the walk up to the historic town centre.

Doesn't have to be one video, two separate videos in one day to save you having to travel there twice.
YES I LOVE THIS - MORE VICKI EXPLORES PLEASE
It’s so weird seeing someone so excited about my home borough 😂
Great to see you still out and about!! I went to Shepperton recently funnily enough, during the major works at Waterloo, so had to go via Richmond and double-run in and out of Kingston from the west - took ages! Also it was weird departing from the old Eurostar platforms. On those "Jury seats", are there any scenes depicting capital punishment? Hangings, electric chairs, just wondered? I noticed you took advantage of the declassified First Class seats from Herne Hill to Wimbledon - why not? Those Standard Class seats on the 700's are not that comfortable, too little leg room in many of them.
Something tells me this may not be the last we see of All the Stations :)
12 on a jury in modern day English courts. In Scotland we have 15 people on a jury.

yay you visited the shepperton branch, i live near Sunbury
I saw two different copies of the Magna Carta in 2015. One in Oxford and another in Toronto.
Yayyyy more!!!
Just when I was starting to get withdrawal symptoms! Thank you Vicki and Geoff. Also, that KZread hoodie is your new favorite? I got one, and its really comfy.

On the subject of changing train operators; it's still fairly common to see the old blue First Great Western livery when they changed to Great Western Railway and green two years ago.
Maybe next year they could to all the stations on heritage railways
Hooray! Will this be the start of a new series, I hope? I was at university not far from there, briefly. Egham's the nearest station.
Most of the suburban trains are still red but they have had a sticker saying south western railway stuck on them
I hope all the stations does not disappoint like the never ending story.
Yay, #AllVicki'sSecretLists!
There's also the air force museum at Runnymead
Woo!
Herne Hill is a local station I lived near when I used to live in London!
Fantastic. Do you have a patreon or whatever other method where we can support many more?
I would happily subscribe to and watch all of the videos on a "Vicki Explores..." channel

Its late, I'm tired. Sorry I missed it, though I did learn about the Allied Air memorial in the process
Why did you go from Shepperton? Egham, Stanies and Chertsey are much closer!
ah all is well again , brilliant keep them coming , come back to Scotland . I will make shortbread
I'm guessing it will always bee South West Trains rather than Southwestern Railways much like it is with Thameslink despite that particular name not being used as a TOC for quite sometime.
I understand it's called "Magna Carta", not "The Magna Carta". For some reason, it has no definite article. Something to do with it being the name of a historical document in Latin.
You went to Shepperton. My local station. You would have also gone past my house
Not all British juries have twelve members in Scotland it is fifteen
@StrathpefferJunction

Victoria James Indeed. Because Scotland has an independent legal system. Magna Carta also has limited relevance to Scotland. But, this is nonetheless an interesting video ☺️
@stephthestar90

Scotland is its own legal jurisdiction to England and Wales and Northern Ireland (which again has its own legal system). The Magna Carta is most relevant to England and Wales. Irish juries also have 12 members but Ireland is a separate legal jurisdiction and government, although some aspects of Irish law borrow from old English common law and of course they used to be under British rule. I have a Masters in law and am working towards a PhD so I spend a lot of time studying this stuff!
@StrathpefferJunction
6 жыл бұрын
stephthestar90 You could argue that Ireland's legal system is notably closer to England's than Scotland's, despite Ireland now being a fully independent country.

Strathpeffer Junction Interesting idea. that wouldnt make a full thesis but it would be a journal article or textbook chapter on legal systems. Maybe when I'm more established in my academic career 🎓
I have seen the new livery of South Western Railway at Waterloo on the 13/09/2017 at around 17:15
The Magna Carta was signed 1215. Just after midday then...
I'd like to see a new South Western Railway train too I travel over those lines to visit my girlfriend she lives on the Chessington branch we are both sad it's no longer South West Trains
You should do all the bus stops
Went there this summer. Find it odd that the only memorial for the Magna Carta was erected by the USA
Never mind all this history bunkum - what about the important issues like where did the all the stations sign given to you by the guy at Lancaster station end up?

British Courts? English Courts have 12 on a jury. Scottish Courts have 15.

All The Jurys - all of them.
Just as a an aside (and to promote my home town) in order to get to Shepperton, the train had to travel via Kingston..Whilst Runnymede is the home of democracy, Kingston is the birth place of England. Why? Because King Athelstan, grandson of Alfred was the first King to rightly hold the title King of England. Way to go Surrey.
I notice that you are no soooo wealthy from ATS revenue, you are travelling First Class :-). really pleased to see another vid though - thanks guys

the southwest trains in uk have the same color scheme as southwest airlines in usa
Is it a pacer......I knooooow. 😍
#AllTheCastles. Make it so.
Only just seen this October 19. Why did you not go to Egham station, as that is the nearest to Runnymede. Whitehall Lane is a much nicer crossing than the station.
I hate to be picky but 12 being the number of jurors in "British Courts" isn't really correct: that's the number for English and Welsh Crown Courts but it's 15 in Scottish Courts. In civil courts in England and Wales it's 8, Coroners' Courts can have as few as 7.
I think that Magna Carta was one for the rights of the Barons, not the Great Unwashed, even though it achieved a wider effect - Law of Unintended Consequences! BTW, did you get to the RAF memorial @ Runnymede?
@VickiPipe
6 жыл бұрын
John Usher indeed. At the time those with power (and wealth) would have gained the most. But as times changed, that included more and more people. We took a peek at the RAF memorial too yes, but it's undergoing some work at the moment.

Wot a Star you are!
Silly question: why did you go to Shepperton rather than Egham (or Staines) to get to Runnymede? If you'd gone up to the RAF memorial on the hill, there's a great view of the surrounding countryside - on a clear day you can even see Canary Wharf tower. This s26.postimg.org/s0x83uzux/Air_Force_Panorama_2_-_PSE.png is a photo that I took from the top of the memorial a few years ago: experimenting with joining multiple photos to make a panorama. The flat grassy field beside the river where you met Geoff at the end is in the middle distance and Runnymede memorial is at the foot of the hill, hidden from view by the trees in the foreground. Vicki Explores definitely needs to be a regular series, though maybe with Geoff as cameraman to avoid shaky selfie-stick footage :-)

Oh dear... I'm feeling myself becoming geekier by the minute... ( is there such a word ? ... there is now ! ) I'm also remembering that Vicki was promised a trip to Stonehenge....for "Vicki takes a trip" ( queue the 1960's similar sounding soundtrack ) I wanna see it happen! Please. But it's worse than that, I'm finding curious phrases like "All the moquetes" are bubbling into my mind...is there no help for such afflictions? As one wise woman once said, "What have we come to?". Oh...and just love the vids. Still think these should be on your own mainstream TV morning show.
They better not rename and recolour EMT next. I love the EMT livery.

Isaac Timmins Anything can happen when a franchise changes hands. I have a friend who lives at Kettering, I know he was annoyed when the Corby service started, as there's only one train an hour north (that calls at Kettering) to Market Harborough, Leicester and beyond, and few if any direct trains to Derby or Sheffield. Still, if they electrify to Corby, perhaps Thameslink could take that service over.
