Her father was a British gangster and close associate of both the Kray Twins and the Richardson Gang, earning himself the nickname "Jimmy the Dip", and was involved in the Great Train Robbery. The Great Train Robbery was the robbery in1963 of £2.61 million, (about £61 million today) from a Royal Mail train, the most famous robber was Ronnie Biggs. The film Buster which starred Phil Collins as Buster tells the whole story and is a good film with some of Phil's famous songs in it.

This is a banger🎉 Pet Shop Boys wrote this one and their version is on their 1988 album. PSBs were doing some great work with female singers around this time (Dusty Springfield, Liza Minelli, Patsy Kensit...). Patsy's vocals are fairly unique, breathy. She formed this band with her brother. She went on to have a successful TV and movie career and is still a celebrity in Ireland /UK. This song is a forgotten gem from the 80s.

Looking for someone new for female Friday? Ever heard of Basia? She was big in the early 90’s. Incredible backstory, she grew up in Soviet occupied Poland where western music was illegal! She only had Polish folk music and her parents smuggled in Latin and jazz albums to listen too. When She was 18 She risked her life to escape by stowing away on a freighter bound for England. She has a sound like no other, She is literally a genre of one. With an absolute gift for melody and harmony. Please trust me…you will fall in love. She has a very large catalog of wonderful music. I would suggest you check out her first hit called “ Tide and Time” followed by “ Promises” and “ Cruising for Bruising” and there are many ,many more. You won’t be disappointed

this genre is italo-disco if you “don’t get it”; this is supposed to be a disco/dance/club song. Lyrics are of secondary importance. The atmosphere and feeling of the song is what’s important. Instrumental version of this is just as fine as a dance song (which this is) but of course her voice makes it MUCH better. So, if you are getting hung up on the lyrics and trying to find a meaning, you are missing the whole point of what the purpose of the song is. In fact, in only a small percentage of songs in this genre lyrics are important. One such song that comes to my mind right now is Robert Bravo - Keep On Driving. It is a tribute song about F1 driver Gilles Villeneuve, who died in a crash. Americans don’t really know this genre, because it never became popular in the US, but was pretty much everywhere else in the 80s. Oh by the way, she is also an actress

Thanks Amber & Jay - I confess I hadn’t heard this before any enjoyed it. When you are ready to to return to a less “produced” sound there are several other women artists that really deserve your attention. I think that you have only reacted to ONE Mary Chapin Carpenter song. She has 17 albums ? and still going strong. 5 Grammies, 4 times best female vocal artist….you see where I’m going. Singer / songwriter that is a poet- lyrics are central to fully appreciating her. Beyond that, she defies being categorized like many artists that you have reacted to who have widely varied songs and surprise you with things that you just don’t expect. Try studio version of Rhythm of the Blues, This Shirt, He Thinks He’ll Keep Her, Stones in the Road, Jubilee, Almost Home, or perhaps a live version of Why Walk When You Can Fly, or Why Shouldn’t We on KZread. Both of those come with brief comments from her about the songs at the beginning. Mary is a journey that once you open yourself up to, you’ll just keep going and going and going. You’ll be giving ALOT of people what they want….

An absolute 80s classic. And some really clever lyrics. If you want to give this group another try I would recommend the follow-up to this "Cross My Heart". It's a lot more dancey and catchy and probably a lot more up especially Jay's alley.

Just a suggestion for you, you should do a video to The Passions - I'm In Love With A German Film Star'. The singer was Babara Gogan who needs a mention on your channel. The first 50 seconds of the song had some excellent guitar work. The echoing will just take you away to another place. It's a great song.

Before I go to my grave, you need to react to Tina S, playing Beethoven Moonlight Sonata 3rd Movement for Female Friday or anytime. She was born in France in 1999 and was 17 when she made the video. She has disappeared for some time, but I have heard she is back, or coming back. She was mostly a cover artist, but if you want to experience what a woman can do with a guitar, you have to check out Tina S, playing Beethoven Moonlight Sonata 3rd Movement.
