Via Ferrata fall - Rock climbing is the reason why I almost fell on Via Ferrata twice

List of Via Ferrata shown in this video:
Italy
- Adventure Climb Via Ferrata (I am clipping the carabiners on a sharp vertical / Level D)
Romania
- Amfiteatrul Zmeilor Via Ferrata (most of the footage / Level D)
- Spirala Muierilor Via Ferrata (dark top, rope on top of the backpack / Level D)
- Wild Ferenc Via Ferrata (I while climbing dressed in red top and green trousers / Level D)
Out of all the reasons that almost made me fall on a Via Ferrata, trying to rock climb is the main trigger.
On Via Ferrata falling is not an option. Falls on Via Ferrata are dangerous and rock climbing a Via Ferrata does exactly that, increases the probability of a fall by a lot.

On a via ferrata, you do not fall (unless you are having an accident)! It's not an option with a soft brake like when you are rock climbing; falls into a via ferrata rope set are the hardest, even with the (required) fall brake.

Via ferratas are designed to be via ferratas and not climbing routes. For this reason, if you are attached to the steel cable, you often do not have the same grip options that you would have if you were free climbing. Trying to climb like a climbing route, therefore, is unnecessarily risky and makes no sense because they are 2 different practices. Cheers

A very good point about falling on via ferrata. Falling in a climbing route, depending on various factors, might not be as dangerous as it is on VF and it should be avoided.

I saw a beginner fall on a guided VF route 2 people above me but she was lucky that it was overhanging and did not hit the next person in the chain, plus had an old style non-expanding VF set so it hurt but she didn't fall too far and could therefore recover.

Rather than a loose open hook Carabiners, why don't Via Ferratta use some sort of Carabiner that grips cable tightly and can only be slid in one direction? I think these are called ascenders?

New subscriber! I've never done a VF but I am looking to do so. You make an excellent point about the difference between VF and rock climbing - one is designed for falls and the other is not!

This is actually a very important and informative video about via Ferrata. Should be information about this everywhere where there's via Ferrata, but I rarely see it.

Hi. I keep hearing that via ferrata falls are to be avoided but am not getting clear info on the internet as to what happens if you fall on a VF? Why does it have to be avoided so much and what does the equipment even do if it can't stop a fall?

Do you mean that on via Ferrata you should always have both hands holding the cable when climbing vertically?

This was filmed in Baia de Fier, wasn't it? Really beautiful place.

First we would like to say that we fully enjoy your videos. They are very informative and your passion for the sport is very evident. So, thank you for the time and effort you put into making these videos. My partner and I have become passionate about Vía Farratas after completing only our 1st one. It was a 450m K2/K3 with two short K4 Variantes which we completed easily. We are outdoors people and we like to prepare ourselves for the unexpected therefore we carry the items we think we might need in cases of emergency. Of course there are always situations that may arise unexpectedly.
