Vevor (Fordom?) Flex Shaft Tool and Review

I've always wanted a nice flex shaft tool but didn't want to pay those prices. You'll be surprised what I found on the users manual.
You can get yourself one of these beauties at Amazon.
www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07...
This is NOT a paid review. Although if Vevor would like to pass a couple bucks my way I wouldn't complain.

Just found the review. An eBay seller currently has this for $50. I’m in an industry where what you pay is what you get. And in some instances this is true. I think it’s fair to say at the least that one would need buy 16 to pay as much for a Foredom. If each lasted only a year, a person would still pay less. Aside from this I have a habit of looking for the best deal on good, dependable equipment. And in the past 10 years I’ve come to find that many of these items are made in China and then badged with a quality name by the reputable company. Some differences might be in materials dictated by the US company. And then you have productions from the same company that are blems: cast quality might be off. A coating might be off color, etc. I work for the commercial division of a famous French company and blem tires are often sold at a very low cost. So not all price points are a mark of poor quality. It’s just company quality on visuals doesn’t meet a standard. My advice for making such decisions are no longer novel. Use of an AI app can lead to making sound judgement on a purchase when it comes to true quality at a fair price. It’s a tool I use when comparative shopping in every aspect of my life. Good luck and hope the tip helps.

I have had mine for about 3 years. I heard about the foot pedal problems. I must say I never experienced any problems at all. Mine runs from stationary evenly up to full power. I have more trouble holding the pedal down due to a muscle disease than the pedal not working correctly. I honestly can say I am impressed with the whole unit.

This looks exactly like my Foredom, however it sounds very different. The real thing is quieter and smoother, and likely more powerful. The pedal looks the same as the standard Foredom pedal, but it seems to have issues. My pedal is very easy to control, from slow speeds all the way to full throttle. And that's just the standard plastic one. Foredom has a metal one as well. Mine came with the quick change hand piece. I have the hand piece like the one you show as well, although I can't remember if that was included or if I bought it separately. I use both often. This looks like a pretty good deal for what I've seen these go for. It will work for it's intended purpose. If you're going to use it every day, and make money with it like I do, invest in the real thing. It will probably save you money when you don't have to replace it after a year. For a hobbyist though, this looks way better than a Dremel for most things, and it's probably close in price to the most expensive Dremel.

I have the Vevor. I also had a Foredom SR and currently use a Foredom TX, among other flexshafts. The Vevor and the Foredom SR are not identical, even though they look and perform very similarly. Numerous differences from the brushes down to the owner's manual. The Chinese simply copied an older Foredom manual. The current manual looks nothing like it. The shafts are different, the handpieces are (mostly) not interchangeable for this reason. Don't get me wrong; the Vevor is an excellent machine, just replace the pedal with a Foredom - a night and day difference in control. Foredom offers two pedals - plastic and metal. The plastic pedal is constructed similarly to the Chinese pedal, just works a lot better. The metal pedal is much more substantial and more gratifying to use. In some ways, easier to control. Good luck.

Common problem with them. I have had mine for about 3 years. The chuck came out once while I was wood carving. Due to the centrifugal force, the chuck ran along the bench and out the door of my workshop. I chased it down, replaced it and whacked it hard once I replaced it. It has never come apart since. Great unit. I’m extremely impressed with it.

I would check the flex cable to see if it was shipped with or without lubricant, mine was totally dry so I put a bead of white lithium grease on it, without this lubricant you will have a premature breakage, best of luck.

I agree lubricate the shaft as per Foredom maintenance videos ... Sounds like it could use some greasing in your video ... Do that and you will be all set . You can also try adjusting the pedal by playing with that bolt in the hole in bottom of pedal .... But yah they are cheap for sure !!!

I'm on the fence on buying one of these, or a real Foredom. I find it hard to believe it is just a rebranded Foredom as they are manufactured in Connecticut. At this price point I have no doubt these are made in China. The fact they have a manual with the Foredom name on it really annoys me. I want to save money, but have no wish to reward such blatant IP and brand name theft. I will most likely pay the extra to be sure I am getting the reliability I want.

Home products made in China can fail easily, but with tools like this, there are many factories that use them in China so they tend to get many bugs worked out. Details like the pedal may not last as well, but can be replaced. Certainly if you make a living with it get a Foredom, but for occasional use, these can be a bargain.

I would buy a potentiometer and just wire the leads from the one inside the pedal into a new box with the new potentiometer, then throw away the foot pedal.. Simple desk mounted control of speed that will remain constant.. Foot pedals are garbage and even the good ones still leave a lot to be desired in terms of regulating speed..

I mean is that even a relevant question though? Seems to me the only question work asking is how it performs. It's like a third the price of the foredom, so as long as it performs better than a third as well seems like you get your money's worth. And the reports I seem to be hearing is the performance is very close so sounds Like it's twice the value of the foredom dollar for dollar
