Kareem, your videos are great and in-depth, thank you so much for taking the time to make them. You just convinced me to get one of these, especially now that they're a bit cheaper -- this is probably the best time to get a VCI-400, in fact: I bought it new for around 550€ here (~$750) and since it is fully equivalent to the NI Traktor S4, I don't have to fear not being able to use the newer functions of Traktor, even though it is a 2011-2012 product. And because of the build quality I'm sure I'll keep this baby for a long time.

***** I did! I especially liked the custom skin vid, I'm thinking of getting one myself. The really GREAT thing about the VCI-400, in my opinion as both an engineer who loves to fiddle with complicated stuff and someones who uses Ableton Live for making experiments, is that it's full MIDI and no-nonsense: no pre-applied label stickers on the controls out of the box because the user will map their own, no partnership with any "famous" DJ software with restricted features, standard and logical button placement, plus the whole thing is very low-key and sturdy. A true controller for controllerists, if that means anything.

Thank you that was the best review I've seen on this unit thus far. One question, once you capture a sample and load it are you able to control the sample with the jog wheel?

Great review! Very in-depth. I'm running it with Traktor but have never had it setup properly. My cross fader nor volume faders work with Traktor. What could be the reason why? My mapping is current. Could it be the firmware? I have the latest that was designed for Serato DJ. Is that the reason?

After trying out the DDJ-SX and the VCI-400 respectively, the Vestax got my money at the end of the day. Just a solid unit and awesome to use. Of course, thanks to Kareem, I made my choice based on software, and TP was the way to go for me. All in all, you just can't beat the options for the Vestax.

you've been very helpful. thanks, last question (i hope): if im selecting the audio6 instead of the vci-400 for sound, am i supposed to route the 400's audio into the audio6 box? i saw a picture of your setup and noticed you dont have anything plugged into the front of the main in/out of the audio6. i really want to use the 400's soundcard to cue and plug my speakers into (not the audio 6).

thanks for the quick reply. could you possibly make a video walkthrough on how to go about setting this up? im hearing mixed comments about the setup. some people are saying i cant cue from the vci-400, or that i need the stand alone mixer firmware. do you have your timecode decks on C & D, and jog wheels for A & B? all i want is to be able to do what the s4 does out of the box, so im guessing the audio 4 is enough?

How is the volume output on the controller compared to other controllers?

I read manual there's "Deck C/D" switch at the back of VCI-400, that feed external audio into Traktor, right? If so, it should be able to feed timecode signal also. am I miss something??

Hi Kareem, I'm choosing between VCI-400 and S4 (prefer VCI-400). my problem is, I'm not sure can I plug turntable (STR8-150, line level output) directly to VCI and send timecode signal into Traktor? or do I need another interface from NI? thank you in advance!

I thought so, but is it worth getting the Ean Golden edition of this? There's not much price difference and to me it's a lot cleaner.

Latency depends on several things, most notably, your computer. What kind of computer are you using? HDD or Solid State drive? RAM? CPU?

How about this controller vs the DDJ SX for a traktor user?

do you know if this can work with traktor scratch if i have an audio 4/6 card? i basically want to set it up using timecode (with turntables) the same way the s4 handles timecode out of the box.

Does this unit have to be plugged in or can it be USB powered?

I still have this in mint condition with the Vestax 05proIV fader upgrade. But you can check the Pioneer DDJ-SR2, Roland DJ-505, or maybe the new Mixars 2 channel controller...

I still have my VCI-400 after all these years and I will never give it up. Having said that, I like the VCI-400 better than the SR2 even... That's just what I think though...

@@OzymandiasAlhazred All controllers sound pretty much the same to me. It isnt like mixers... It's digital computers and files so if its fat sound you want then buy vinyl and a rotary boutique mixer or Allen & Heath mixer instead of a controller...

Still the VCI-400 for me because it is all metal and it can take the scratch fader from Vestax, and it has an internal Serato DJ DVS soundcard, so for another $150 you can get the upgrade to plug in external timecode decks for Serato playback. It's fly!

Yes, it works with Traktor pro 3, but you need to find the Traktor mapping online and you need to also find the Traktor Drivers online. They are out there if you search correctly. I still use this with both Traktor and Serato to this day. It's actually my go-to controller after all these years.

@@RealDJblaze what do you mean traktor drivers. Don’t you just need the proper traktor pro 3 TSI file mapping for it to work with TP3. How about TP2, does it work as in plug in play?

@@Mattiimateo Exactly... I meant the TSI... You need the drivers for the computer though for the soundcard to be recognized. Then it will work when you set it up in TP2 or TP3. Nothing is plug and play in Traktor without setup except for Traktor branded devices...

João Correia It depends what software you are using, but the buttons around the browse knob should allow you to go backwards and forwards through the panels/folders on the left column...

João Correia Just gotta figure it out by using Add-In under the mapping section. There should be a navigation section that has those properties under them. I haven't done it before, but I'm sure its not too difficult...

Believe it or not, I JUST brought this out yesterday and I still use it as my primary Serato DJ controller right now. I also have a Vestax PRO crossfader installed. Same fader that is on the PMC-05ProIV...

I had this controller 6 Years ago when I was just Djing. Now im producing with Hardware Synths and Drum Machines but i watched some videos and instantly ordered one from ebay for 200 bucks because it was the best controller in my oppinion 😄

the thing that noone is talking about in 10+ reviews on youtube is the compatibility of the audio interface in windows ... with traktor you got 80ms latency what makes it nearly impossible to cue and drop effects over your set precisely

So is this unit all metal

@@kareemthedream6084 Thank you! I'm planning to get one, replacing my S4 MK2, i just feel that S4 MK2's sound quality is not as good as other controllers.

The Problem is the vestax driver. You habe to use asio4all and it works well...even on a 2 year old vaio Laptop ;)
