CHAPARRAL TWR-7 was successfully moved from where it washed up on the beachfront at Kihei Canoe Club and Kihei Beach Resort. It presented a hazard to beachgoers and the environment. Unfortunately, the hull was breached on the rocks so it was deemed unfloatable by the state. Sea Engineering Inc. was hired by the state to remove it.
On Feb 24th, after much prep work which included removing the 2 propellers, the 2 rudders, and the 2 Detroit Diesel V12 Marine engines, the vessel was moved down the beach to a staging area where it will be cut into large pieces and removed for salvage.
