Very Heavy Transport

Ойын-сауық

The rotor from a generator at Calloway Nuclear Plant was sent out for refurbishment. The total weight of the vehicle was in excess of 700,000 pounds. One truck pulling and one truck pushing. 108 tires on the ground. When it came to turn North on Hwy 19 in Montgomery County, they showed to ability to steer by turning every axle of the trailer to make the corner. It was quite a spectacle to watch.

Take a look at some of Mammoet's specialized trailers/haulers (there is another name for them but I don't know it), wheels turn 360 degrees, each wheel is synchronized with self-powered with electric motors, all controlled with a joy stick and small console - flat out rocket science. Amazing.

A few years ago you could only find them in my home town in South Louisiana and I think in Michigan. If my numbers are correct they rented for 1 million a day cost 7 to 11 million and the insurance was ridiculous. Don’t hold me accountable on any of that except the rental fee. They drive by remote and are a German engineered marvel. Loureville LA is a small little town w 1 red light and some brilliant people. They’ve secured some huge gov contracts for boat building, innovative outboard motors and huge naval craft

@@andysmith8189 That makes sense, you're not that far from the Atchafalaya and the Mississippi and I-10 is right up the road. A lot of heavy loads travel by water, you're sort of in the middle of the country and oil rig equipment is heavy. I know those units can be separated into smaller sections and transported on normal size trailers so their low speed is not a problem. Only problem I see is your elevation, you're no that far above sea level and they don't float. Or do they, all those tires...

@@ph11p3540 Thanks, mumbling that out loud will help me get a seat by myself at McDonalds. Insane, yes, but when you specialize like Mammoet does, the distractions go away and you can really focus on getting the equipment perfect and the job done right. Some of their moves would have been impossible even twenty years ago when house-moving was a very big project. A site construction company near me says "We move the earth" - Mammoet moves everything else. Do you remember when NASA's rocket transporter from 1965 was the largest in the world? Mammoet's equipment is smaller but could do the job, I think.

I watched a similar load come into town here in North Georgia several years ago. A turbine for a power plant being shipped overseas. They parked and stored it several months at an old factory that wasn't being used. They eventually moved it to a sea port for shipment. They planned the move to come through Atlanta late at night. Arrived here about 3 AM. I got up to watch it come into town. Pretty impressive, but I wasn't able to get decent video being at night.

Hey Mike, thanks for another real good in depth video brother. Looks like the companies or company your filming have definitely got the right trucks to do all the heavy loads. I said in another video that ir you dont have a Pete, KW or a Western Star pulling these loads, thats your first major problem. Some people and by that I mean your Wal-Mart CDL drivers, would say "all trucks are the same they just have different engines and running gears". And thats their opinion. And if any of you "drivers" out there that think hey thats something I'd like to do. It takes a very high set skills to do that kinda hauling.

I find it difficult to trust spotters. They never seem to stand in a place where I can see them and make all sorts of hand signals that don’t make sense. I still give them a wave of appreciation but I used my mirrors and windows mostly.

I would bet that an assorted few key people had radios, and talked the driver through it. As long as that thing was, I don’t think he could see half of the trailer in his mirrors after he started turning!

True mate. Waving arms is not helpful unless it's a clear signal that the driver can actually see! Been in places as driver, also as spotter where there's not only cars but pedestrians, bicycles and horses! Gets bloody hectic and it's a high trust situation. People who don't understand trucks can be unbelievably stupid!
