My parents have a VHS tape of gone in 60 seconds, and the tape has heavy damage, but only in the promotional stuff. The rest of the tape is fine.

There's no damage to that tape. Most VHS tapes just start with static because nothing was written on that part of the tape.

There’s just nothing recorded on that part, either that, or the static is the VCR turning on then when it goes back to blue it goes past a part on the tape that has no magnetic coating, it’s called a lead, and once the magnetic heads pick up the information once the tape begins Is when it turns black then starts playing the tape. Not damaged at all, just how tapes are

I assure u that's not the problem. Use a vcr first, you'll see the same noise with a blank tape.

You have to use a blank tape, or one recorded with no signal. I'm pretty sure it was the second option, as with a blank one there was no video output at all. (Can't remember exactly)

Assuming you're talking about the diagonal lines on the screen, that's an artifact caused by recording the CRT monitor with a camera

if you look closely at the static before it blue screens its like rolling down the screen which means its damaged along with the grinding noise

Just do u know vhs tapes do decay over time but i doubt thats whats going on probs just starting it and gett8ng it to the film it self on the ends of vhs tapes the tape has clear on both ends because its impossible to reach the vhs heads so they dont put content there and sometikes it over laps a littpe making the clear extend to right when it touchs the heads but ehh better to much than to little

Maybe it’s just doing an auto rewind program.
