VERNON, BC WINTER | Vernon, British Columbia | Winter in the Okanagan
In this video, we walk you through what it’s like living in the Okanagan Valley in the winter in Canada. Vernon British Columbia is about 45 minutes from Kelowna BC. That being said, the winter in Kelowna is not much different from the winter in Vernon! The city of Vernon is small, but has all that you need and in our opinion is one of the best cities in BC to move to! If you’re considering moving to Kelowna, or moving to the Okanagan in general, we recommend considering moving to Vernon, BC if you haven’t already.

➤ ABOUT US: Hi! We’re Nick & Raychel, the couple behind the blog Not Luxe - where we write travel guides & help people open their eyes to alternative living, whether that be teaching English online, moving to Cambodia, taking advantage of working holiday visas (like in Australia) or building a DIY stealthy camper van to live & work on the road. Right now, we’re living the van life and travelling safely in our own backyard of British Columbia in Canada.
Our goal here is to bring you weekly content where we hope to inspire you to break free & live the life you desire. On Thursdays, we talk everything from finances to minimalism to working online to mindset and on Sundays, we post a weekly vlog of our daily lives. BC is the most beautiful place in the world. The animals, the greenery, the snow, the lakes, the sunsets, the sunrises and the women. All naturally beautiful. Gosh darn it, why can't the whole world be BC.

    Well done! I'm rootin' for you guys from over here in Calgary. I subscribed a couple weeks ago after seeing your build video. I still have a lot to watch but I appreciate your (fellow) Canadian content. I spent a lot of time mountain biking in and around Vernon way back when and that really brings back fond memories. I just bought a van myself 3-weeks ago so I'm looking forward to taking some road trips. Cheers!

    A little more expensive, but the price tag includes milder winters, some extra mountains and a really quaint/cool community. Nice choice! I've only been to Edmonton in the winter. I think Nick's been there, but had a few too many drinks on Whyte Ave to really remember it LOL

    Hello Nick and Rachel, I have seen many latest news about a high crime rate in Vernon. Can you please enlightenment me how true is this. Thanks

  • @eelexa

    @eelexa

    3 жыл бұрын

    I grew up in Vernon, so I feel like I can somewhat speak to this. Vernon has some patches where crime is a bit more of an issue, unfortunately. Because there aren't a ton of people out at night it can sometimes feel a little less safe downtown or in other neighbourhoods, at least for women. There are some drug/alcohol issues and low income areas that can get a pretty sketchy. However, most of this stuff is only really obvious at night. You likely wouldn't have to be worried walking down a given street in the day time. Many neighbourhoods is Vernon are totally fine. My first apartment on my own was in a sketchier area and as a young woman it was a little iffy sometimes. I haven't been living there for quite a while so I'm not sure if this has changed at all. Vernon is ranked 32nd highest in Canada for crime rate according to StatCan.

    Unfortunately, similarly to what we see in Vancouver - crime sadly takes place within lower income areas and communities. I wouldn't imagine the crime in Vernon being so high that it should deter you from visiting / moving there. It is safe... but it's not perfect.
